Manual additions and corrections
--------------------------------
S1.2.3 Imgc4.prg
Imgc4.prg will run an accessory version of Imagecopy 4 as a stand-alone
program if it is unable to locate an active accessory version or PRG
file. This means you can have a single Imagecopy file with an ACC or ACX
extender on your boot disk, and imgc4.prg will either call Imagecopy as
an accessory or run the ACC or ACX file as a stand-alone program if
Imagecopy has not been loaded as an accessory.
S4.3.2.1 View
When viewing images in full-screen mode, mouse-scrolling auto-repeats if
you hold down a [Shift] key while moving the mouse to the edge of the
screen.
S4.3.3.4.1 Close windows
This option closes windows which are currently open on screen. Imagecopy
allows you to select which types of windows you want to close.
S4.3.3.5.1.0c IMG compression
This option configures the pattern length used for RLE compression of
IMG files. The default option (1-byte) gives the best results in most
cases, but some dithered images may compress better with 2-byte or
3-byte patterns. In general it is best to leave this setting alone
unless you need to squeeze some extra bytes of compression from a
particular image (if it doesn't have to be IMG format, you will probably
get better compression with LZW TIFF compression). This option only
affects images with up to 256 colours. True-colour IMG files are always
compressed with 2-byte, 3-byte, or 4-byte patterns according to their
colour depth (16-bit, 24-bit, or 32-bit).
[Try changing from 1-byte to 2-byte compression if a particular program is
unable to load IMG files from Imagecopy - IMG files from other programs
commonly use 2-byte compression]
S4.3.3c.6 Duplicate
If you hold down a [Shift] key while selecting this option Imagecopy
allows you to specify the number of duplicate copies you wish to make.
Otherwise it creates a single duplicate copy.
Memory requirements
-------------------
Imagecopy 4 requires a minimum of 1 megabyte of memory. Some images (e.g.
large JFIF images) may require more than 1 megabyte.
Installing Imagecopy 4
----------------------
Please note: the accessory and stand-alone versions of Imagecopy 4 are
identical. To install Imagecopy as an accessory, rename one of the
program files with an ACC extension and copy it to the root directory of
your boot disk or boot partition.
Don't forget to configure Imagecopy for your printer before trying to print
images! If you have problems cataloguing images, check that you have
configured the page size correctly.
Imagecopy 4 CD
--------------
This is a CD version of Imagecopy which can read Photo CD images. One
particularly useful feature is an option to cut out part of a high-
resolution Photo-CD image on systems which do not have enough memory to
load the complete image. Adding a CD ROM drive to your system allows you
to access CD versions of photographs which you can then display or print
with Imagecopy CD (most film developers can transfer negatives to CDs).
Printing family snapshots is a good way of creating personal Christmas
cards. Contact FaST Club if you want to upgrade from Imagecopy 4 to
Imagecopy 4 CD; the upgrade cost is £5 plus post and packing.
If you don't have a CD ROM drive FaST Club's Photo2Disk service will
transfer negatives to JFIF images, which can be read with the standard
(non-CD) version of Imagecopy.
Icons
-----
The ICONS folder on disk 1 contains icons which can be installed as program
icons for Imagecopy with TOS versions 2 and higher. To do this you will
need to use a resource or icon editor to copy one of the icons from its
current file into your DESKICON.RSC file, which should be in the root
directory of your boot disk. With TOS 2 or 3, you will need to use the
monochrome icon in ICON.RSC; but if you have TOS 4 (Falcon TOS) you can use
the colour icon in COLORICN.RSC. Please note that older resource editors
(such as K-Resource) are unable to load RSC files containing colour icons.
Once you have copied the appropriate icon into your DESKICON.RSC file,
reboot your system and use the 'Install icon' option in the Desktop Options
menu to select the new icon for use with one (or more) of the Imagecopy
program files. If you have copied IMGC4.PRG onto your boot disk (as
suggested above), install this with the new icon and drag it onto the
desktop so that you can start Imagecopy by double-clicking or dropping
image files onto this icon.
Please note: this only works if you have TOS 2 or higher.

Images
------
Imagecopy 4 is supplied with the following images. These may be used freely
with Imagecopy or other programs, but copyright images should not be
redistributed except as printed hardcopy. The limited range of file formats
were chosen for their efficient use of disk space (esp. JFIF and TIFF), and
are a small selection of the different formats which Imagecopy can read
(see the manual for a complete list). 16 m. (under Colours) stands for 16
million = 24-bit true-colour. 65 k. stands for 65 thousand = 16-bit
true-colour.

Imagecopy Supplementary Disk
----------------------------
A supplementary disk with additional images is available from FaST Club for
£2.50 plus post and packing. This contains PhotoCD images which have been
converted to JFIF format.
Technical support
-----------------
If you have any problems using Imagecopy, or suggestions for future
development, you can contact FaST Club or write to me at the following
address:
Jeremy Hughes
63 Donnington Bridge Road
Oxford
OX4 4BA
You can also send email to j_hughes@cix.compulink.co.uk
Please be as specific as possible in reporting problems, and include
details of which version of Imagecopy you are using and your computer
system (see ▌ 3.10 in the manual). It helps if you can provide a
step-by-step guide for recreating a problem.
>> CIX users <<
We are currently setting up a support conference on CIX which will also
provide free minor upgrades. This will be available from July 1995. The
conference name will be 'imagecopy'.
Image formats
-------------
Please send copies of any images which Imagecopy 4 claims to be able to
read but is unable to read correctly. There are a large number of variants
to common formats, and it is possible that Imagecopy will not be able to
read every image in a particular format. This is particularly true of TIFF
images. Imagecopy should read any baseline-TIFF image, apart from Huffmann
compressed images (which are rare), but it cannot read some types of
extended TIFF file. There are also a fair number of badly-written images
floating around: Imagecopy tries to deal with these but it may fail in a
particular instance.
