  5.   *Important thing to note first!*
  6.  
  7. In   spite  of  appearances  to   the 
  8. contrary,  this  special  edition  of 
  9. Maggie  will  happily run on  any  ST 
  10. based  hardware.  It  won't run  that 
  11. well on any Intel based computer, nor 
  12. is it meant to, unless some damn good 
  13. ST'ish emulation comes along.  
  14.  
  15. People   reading   this   should   be 
  16. expecting   to  revel  in  the   dire 
  17. misfortune  of those benighted  Intel 
  18. users  from the safety of  their  ST, 
  19. and not joining in with them!
  20.  
  21. Yes,  it  runs on Falcon,  subject to 
  22. the normal 'ST Resolution only'  type 
  23. terms and conditions.
  24.  
  25. For a change, lower end users get the 
  26. best  of  the deal for  this  special 
  27. issue.  Firstly, you get a stunningly 
  28. 'real'  simulation  of a  typical  PC 
  29. desktop   environment  (DOS  V.4,   I 
  30. believe)   if you autoboot. Also with 
  31. certain DESKTOP.INF values  cunningly 
  32. juggled  about  by us beforehand, you
  33. can run the Eezi_PC.EXE file straight
  34. off without any problems.

  36. Contrast  this happy  situation  with 
  37. those  smug,  hard drive owning high-
  38. end  gits  who have to  fiddle  about 
  39. unecessarily to turn Eezi_PC.EXE back 
  40. into  a more amenable Eezi_PC.PRG  to 
  41. run. This is  quite a good simulation
  42. of how many real  PC programs behave,
  43. especially on  expensive  higher  end
  44. systems,  where  you  have  to tinker 
  45. endlessly to get it to do anything at
  46. all. Art is clearly parodying life in
  47. a rather weak fashion here!

  49. If you really want to experience  the 
  50. whole  maschochistic tedium  trip  of 
  51. the  life of a typical PC owner,  why 
  52. not    fiddle   around   with    your 
  53. DESKTOP.INF  file  instead,   so  you 
  54. think  you've  got  a  'Sys   Config' 
  55. headache  all of your very  own!  The 
  56. DOS  afflicted will nod in  sympathy, 
  57. but more sensible people are sure  to 
  58. laugh at you instead.

  61. memory segmenter for those  hilarious 
  62. 640K bottleneck antics!

  64. Oh,  and  you  won't half look a  tit 
  65. trying to read this forty column text 
  66. on a super hi-res monitor!

  70. Eezi-PC  Maggie is a one-off  special 
  71. issue  kind of thing,  made with  the 
  72. dedicated  PC-hater in mind.  Inside, 
  73. you will get a mixture of  back-issue 
  74. material  slagging  off  the  dreaded 
  75. klone box,  going right back to issue 
  76. ten,  along  with  a  little  bit  of 
  77. internet  material,  and some new and 
  78. specially written spoof material  for 
  79. this issue.

  81. I think the 'suits' would call  these 
  82. "Bullet Points" or something. Anyway, 
  83. some  of the things you will find  in 
  84. this issue.

  112. Issue  three  is  now  out,  and  the 
  113. Maggie  pages  go  from  strength  to 
  114. strength.  However, a small degree of 
  115. confusion on the part of Felice  goes 
  116. to prove that history is not so  much 
  117. the 'Propaganda of the Winner',  more 
  118. likely  the outpourings of those  who 
  119. do not know what their right hand  is 
  120. up to when it comes to fine detail.

  122. The Maggie 5th Birthday Party  report 
  123. was nicely recycled from Mike  Noyces 
  124. account,   however,   the  screenshot 
  125. featured two Symposium visitors,  Kev 
  126. 'Taff'   Davies,   and  Neil  'Arnel' 
  127. Hyphen-Jones.   *Neither*   of  these 
  128. people were at the Maggie Party!!
  129.  
  130. One   wonders   if   this   Stalinist 
  131. reinvention will eventually catch  on 
  132. as the hallowed truth!!
