The Bit that goes before the rest of it...
(Otherwise known in this case as the editorial that I would have
wrote if only I had known how much trouble and work this issue was
going to take beforehand!!)
Right then, yet another Maggie production totters uncertainly to
that great abbatoir in the sky.. Not one of your regular 'newies',
one of which is really now due soon (issue 19), but instead, a
load of recycled, regurgitated pap loosely termed a compilation
issue..
This compilation covers those early days, from the mists of issue
one, right through to the Delta Force days culminating in their
last issue, issue 10.. Well actually, things went a bit further,
and issue 11 got added to the list, for reasons better gone into
within the proper editorial text.. One for all you diskzine
history PhD researchers to nibble into then..
Regular readers may well recall feeble promises of just such a
compilation issue, almost back to the time when we first took over
the editorial reins.. With regular updates of a 'It'll be really
soon now, honest!" nature as the years went by..
But nothing was done, although Felice did make a start but you
know how it is, with getting the fifth anniversary issue and the
new Falcon only shell out of the way, this took its toll on the
(limited) available time we had for the compilation issue..
(Fanciful idea:- The compilation issue was going to be released at
the same time as issue 18, at the fifth birthday party, and using
the new Falcon shell only!!)
We actually have to thank the DiskBusters for their 'Best of
issues 9 to 12' compilation thingy, which sort of stirred life
into the whole half-forgotten, dormant slumbering beast that was
to ultimately become the 'Maggie Best of Issues 1 to 11'..
For something that seems to be really easy on the surface, this
issue took quite a lot of work.. A wee bit of restructuring of the
credits, as detailed in the editorial, is in order, as Felice did
do the groundwork for the issue, but in contrast to the hopelessly
optimistic editorial text, written a couple of weeks before final
completion, rather more effort from me was required, IE, large
chunks of a whole weekend as a lot of the text files needed a bit
more teasing and screaming at to work than previously
anticipated..
I took the slight liberty of differing with some of Felice's
choices for the issue, and put in a few of my own instead!! It's
the editorial power trip thing in operation again!!
Finally tested and packed, and one hundred percent ok, here it
is!!
The usual rules for the Delta Force originated ST-Shell apply,
that is ST-Low or ST-Medium res if you are using a Falcon,
otherwise carry on as usual..
Another of those 'little' life changes came upon me as I relocated
home to another part of town.. The new address details are , of
course, in the address text.. Probably will tell you a bit more
about 'why' in the next 'proper' Maggie, issue 19..
We have a cricket team (England), whose main pursuit seems to be
to find new places in the world to lose in!! (Currently on tour in
South Africa, now post-Apartheid and safe to play sport in, but
not if you are an England batsman..)
You should see a lot more of this issue shortly after the Atari
World Xmas Atari Shows on the 9th-10th December.. I'll be there
for sure..
Bye for the time being.. See you again in issue 19..
