USING DIFFERENT VIDEO MODES
═══════════════════════════
VeriScope enables the video modes on installation of the
software for both shading and drawing modes. The default
video mode is the VGA standard 640x480 16 colour mode.
SELECTING A DRAWING MODE
════════════════════════
The drawing mode dialogue box pops down and presents the
possible video modes with the current mode highlighted.
Drawing mode refers to the video mode used when VeriScope
draws lines. This includes the DYNAMIC, REDRAW,
DYNOVIEW, WALKTHRU, and 3D-WALK commands.
The default drawing mode is the 16 colour 640x480 standard
mode.
The 800x600 16 colur mode is the smoothestand eliminates
much of the flickering while new lines are drawn.
Sixteen colour modes offer the fastest line drawing and are
recommended for the real-time operations.
VeriScope makes use of the extended colours in the 256-colour
mode by providing anti-aliased lines. This slows the line
drawing but effectively increases the spatial resolution of the
screen. Line quality is improved and you can see intensity
attenuation in areas of line saturation.(the lines are brighter
where they cross each other). In conclusion, use standard VGA
Mode for fastest, least flicker real-time operations. Use 256
colour modes for the highest line quality.(when pixel density is
equivalent).
SELECTING A SHADING MODE
════════════════════════
The shading mode dialogue box pops down and presents the
possible video modes with the current mode highlighted.
Shading mode refers to the video mode used when VeriScope
shades the drawing. This does not apply when using the PART
SHADE command or the shaded section in 4-view.
For an equivalent pixel density 256 colour modes give a
superior image with a very slight increase in rendering time
(this increase is almost unnoticeable).
The only arguments for a 16 colour rendering are:
If the 16-colour modes offer higher pixel density.
If you will be storing the image in a PCX file and are
worried about free disk space (256 colour PCX files are
huge).
Movies are made in 16 colour standard mode.
To make a 256 colour movie, select the FLC option in
the "custom" command on the 'Set' menu.
If a 16 colour shade mode is selected and the FLC option
is on, the movie will be made at 320x200 resolution.
