DMapEdit v3.01
DMapEdit is now no longer going to have 2 versions anymore (registered
and crippled shareware). From now to the end of DMapEdit's existence,
there will only be one shareware version for everyone, starting with
this version 3.01. Thus, this is a fully working copy of DMapEdit. It
is shareware. You may try it out, and if you decide to keep it,
registering it only costs $5. $5 is actually a very low price, and had
I known more about shareware when I started DMapEdit, and had known that
DMapEdit was going to get this intricate, I would have set the price
higher. But, it's too late to change that now, I think. So, if you
think DMapEdit is worth more than $5, I encourage you to send me a
little extra for my efforts.
Why should you register? Well, first, only registered users can be beta
testers for the next version of DMapEdit. The next major version I
release will be v4.0, and 3 screenshots of it are included with v3.01.
There may be another version before that, if very many bugs turn up in
v3.01, which always seems to happen with every version I release. If
I'm lucky, though, v4.0 will be the next version. I'm about 2/3 done
with the programming right now.
From now on, I will releast the source code along with each new version
as well, starting with this v3.01. You are free to change and
re-compile DMapEdit to suit your needs, if you have any experience in
programming. It is written to compile under Borland C++ v3.1, with the
graphics library turned on and using the medium memory model. You may
not, however, distribute modified versions of DMapEdit to anyone without
my permission. My email address, street address, and even phone number
are listed in in the docs and appears on the intro/closing screens when
DMapEdit is run. Further instructions on the use of the source code is
listed within the source codes themselves. If you have a situation I
have not covered concerning the use of the source codes, contact me and
I'll let to know personally.
Ok, so here's what's actually new to v3.01 from v3.0. It is
non-crippled. In addition, most known bugs have been fixed. For more
info on these bugs, check out the docs. The one problem that occurs within
the texture picklist sometimes hasn't, however. I don't know what is
causing it, and therefore I cannot fix it. I now have a theory that it is
occurs when used with MSDos v6.2. I don't use v6.2. I use v6.0. So, if
anyone else can let me know if this appears to be true, I'd appreciate it.
Also, any experienced programmers/debuggers out there who can track this
down to any degree, this would be very appreciated! I've only been
programming in C for slightly over a year now, and I lack a lot of the C
quirkiness knowledge one gets from experience. In fact, I have learned
about a lot of C functions I never knew of before from DEU.
Sorry this isn't really a great readme file. I'm not in my
'documentation composition' mood, so I'm doing it quick and dirty. Any
question you may have that haven't been answered may be send to be
email, normal mail, or alt.games.doom. If you go a.g.d however, use a
title like 'DMapEdit v3.01 question' or something so I don't skip it,
since I do skip about 95% of the messages there, simply because I don't
have enought time to read any more than that. If it's a question that
others are like to benefit from, I recomment a.g.d. Bye..
