  72. This package contains the CONTACT PLUS (R) PERSONAL 97 SYSTEM by CONTACT
  73. PLUS CORPORATION. This document contains only a brief description along
  74. with instructions for its installation.  Detailed documentation is
  75. included in the package, but it is in archived form, and is more easily
  76. read after installation.

  78. If you've been trying to keep track of your clients using a conventional
  79. phone book, rolodex or other simple name and address book program then
  80. Contact Plus Personal 97 is for you.  Contact Plus Personal helps you
  81. keep your contacts organized into multiple databases.  You may have a
  82. personal database of your softball team, a database of interested clients
  83. for your business, a database of the members of the choir and want to
  84. keep all of this information in one standard place.

  86. Contact Plus Personal 97 provides an intuitive easy to use way of keep
  87. track of your contacts, letters to each contact, notes, phone calls,
  88. meetings, to-dos, etc.

  90. You can directly send e-mail to your contacts with full history of the
  91. e-mail.  Or you can do a mass mailing via e-mail.  E-mail requires a MAPI
  92. compliant serve such as MicroSoft Exchange or Eudora Pro.

  97. Contact Plus Personal 97 comes with several on-line coaches making it
  98. easy to start learning the system right away.

  101. meetings is stored perpetually for each contact.  Never forget an
  102. appointment as alarms can be set in advance of your meetings.  Drag and
  103. drop capability on the calendars make scheduling a breeze.

  106. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  107. You may use it for up to 30 days without charge. If you like the program,
  108. and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you are

  110. (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a fee

  141. ===== Installation =====================================

  143. The installation procedure for Contact Plus Personal 97 is quite simple.
  144. The package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the entire
  145. process.  You will need about 7 megabytes of available disk space on the
  146. hard drive on which you plan to install Contact Plus Personal 97.
  147.  
  148. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  149. Contact Plus Personal for Windows.
  150.  
  151. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  152.  
  153. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  154.  
  155.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  156.       appropriate diskette drive.
  157.  
  158.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  159.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A: from
  160.       Program Manager run the command: "A:SETUP".
  161.  
  162.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  163.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  164.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  165.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  166.       the files to that directory.  If you received the product
  167.       on more than one diskette, you will need to insert subsequent
  168.       diskettes when asked to do so.

  171. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  172.  
  173. If you downloaded Contact Plus Personal 97 from a BBS (or received it in
  174. the form of archive files from some other source), you will need to
  175. perform the following steps.
  176.  
  177.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  178.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  179.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  180.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  181.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  182.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  183.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  184.       the package.
  185.  
  186.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  187.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  188.       the <product> package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the
  189.       command, "c:\tempdir\SETUP".
  190.  
  191.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  192.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  193.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  194.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  195.       the product files to that directory.  If you so direct it, the
  196.       installation program will install executable programs and
  197.       documentation in other directories of your choice.

  199. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  200. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the product
  201. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  204. DATABASE ENGINE INSTALLATION
  205.  
  206. Contact Plus for Windows uses the 32-bit Borland Database Engine.  This
  207. is a powerful database engine that can be used by other applications.  It
  208. should be installed in your C: drive as Borland recommends.  The database
  209. engine consumes about 3.5 Megabytes.
  210.  
  211. The database engine is automatically installed when SETUP is run.  Do
  212. not delete the database engine since it is necessary to run Contact Plus
  213. Personal successfully.
  214.  
  215. Note that the default settings for the Borland Database Engine is
  216. 'paradox ascii'.  If you are working in a language other than english
  217. you may change the default by running the BDECFG32.exe program.
  218.  
  219. UNINSTALLATION
  220.  
  221. To uninstall, go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.  You
  222. will see Contact Plus Personal 97 as one of the choices.  CLick on the
  223. remove button.
  224.  
  225. The uninstallation program will also uninstall the Borland Database
  226. Engine.
  227.  
  228. If you are running Windows '95 then you can instead uninstall Contact
  229. Plus Personal for Windows using the Add/Remove Programs available under
  230. the Control Panel Group.

  232. YOU'RE READY TO GO

  234. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the help files
  235. and coaches which have been installed.

  237. If you decide that Contact Plus Personal is not for you there is an
  238. automatic uninstall procedure which will remove all installed files
  239. restoring your system to it's state before the install.
