  10.      PSA Cards is an easy to use address program.  It looks
  11.      like a card file and it works like a card file.  Just
  12.      click on a divider tab or card to open or close it.

  14.      PSA Cards is also an OLE 2.0 container application.
  15.      This means that you can link or imbed objects
  16.      (pictures, maps, documents, sound and video clips)
  17.      created in other programs in your Cards entries.

  177.      1. Extract the program and help files by running
  178.      psacards.exe from the command prompt.  There are
  179.      seven PSA Cards 2.4 files: cards.exe, cards.hlp, 
  180.      register.txt, readme.txt, convert.exe, cardfile.msc,
  181.      and sample.car.
  182.      
  183.      There are three system libraries (the *.dll files) which
  184.      will be copied to your system directory by the install 
  185.      program. These are new files from Microsoft.  Version
  186.      of PSA Cards requires them.

  188.      2. Run the install program, install.exe

  191. LOADING A DATA FILE ON STARTUP
  192.       
  193.      The installation program sets up PSA Cards to automatically 
  194.      open the file "sample.car" each time you double click on
  195.      the PSA Cards icon.  If you want to open a different file
  196.      on program startup, use the Program manager "Properties" 
  197.      command to change the Command Line entry.  The new data 
  198.      file name replaces "sample.car" after the program name 
  199.      (cards.exe).  Be sure to leave a blank between the program 
  200.      name and the file name.

  244.      If you use PSA Cards on a regular basis and find it

  246.      allows you to update your data file 20 times before
  247.      registering.  After the 20th update you will still be
  248.      able to access your data, but will not be able to save
  249.      changes to the file until you enter your registration
  250.      code using the Registration command in the Help menu.

  263. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERTING MICROSOFT CARDFILE FILES
  264.  
  265.      Importing data from a program like Microsoft CardFile
  266.      poses a problem. PSA Cards has specific data fields for
  267.      each type of information that it stores.  That is, it
  268.      makes a distinction between say a street address and a
  269.      phone number. CardFile does not.  There are only two
  270.      fields in CardFile -- the index line and text.
  271.      CardFile data can be converted to input for PSA Cards'
  272.      ASCII import function if the information on each card
  273.      is in a consistent order and the file contains no
  274.      imbedded objects (remove all OLE stuff).
  275.      
  276.      There is a grubby little DOS application in this
  277.      package called convert.exe.  Convert reads a CardFile
  278.      file and attempts to find the appropriate places for
  279.      field delimiters in the card and writes an output file
  280.      for the import function in PSA Cards:
  281.           
  282.           CardFile file -> Convert.exe -> PSA Cards ASCII
  283.           import
  284.           
  285.      Convert uses the following rules to insert field
  286.      delimiters.
  287.      
  288.      *    Newlines (carriage return, line feed) are replaced by a
  289.           delimiter.
  290.      
  291.      *    Multiple newlines only generate one delimiter.
  292.      
  293.      *    A comma followed by a blank is replaced by a delimiter.
  294.           This can be turned off (option c-).
  295.      
  296.      *    If comma-blank is being replaced by a delimiter, the
  297.           index line  will always generate two fields.  The second
  298.           field may be empty.
  299.      
  300.      *    A single blank after a letter followed by five digits
  301.           will be replaced by a delimiter.  This is assumed to be the
  302.           ZIP code.  This can also be turned off (option z-).
  303.      
  304.      Convert writes a field definition record as the first
  305.      line of the output file.  It assumes that the delimiter
  306.      is ! and that the fields are in the following order:
  307.      
  308.           !lname1 fname1 street city state zip phone1
  309.           comment
  310.  
  311.      If your CardFile has a different order or different
  312.      fields, the first line of the output file will have to
  313.      be edited.  Use the DOS editor, or Notepad.  Be sure to
  314.      use "No conversion" if you must use Write.  You may
  315.      also have to fix up individual records if your input
  316.      file is not consistent enough or you encounter
  317.      situations not handled properly by the above rules.
  318.      You can also edit individual cards once they have been
  319.      imported to PSA Cards.

  322.      about the file import function in PSA Cards.

  324.      Convert has been tested with files written by the
  325.      CardFile in Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and Windows NT.
  326.      I can only assume that the same program is used in
  327.      Windows 3.1.  There is an example CardFile file
  328.      included.  It is called cardfile.msc.  If you turn on
  329.      Convert output to the screen (/s+) you can pipe your
  330.      output to "more".  To see how Convert works, type the
  331.      following command in DOS or a DOS window while in the
  332.      PSA Cards directory:

  334.           >convert  /s+  cardfile.msc  imptcard.adr  |  more
  335.  
  336.      Then run PSA Cards from Windows and use the "Import..."
  337.      command (File menu) to read imptcard.adr.

  340. KNOWN PROBLEMS
  341.  
  342.      *    The Equation Editor for Microsoft Word does not always
  343.           work properly with OLE 2.0 container applications.  This 
  344.           version of PSA Cards will not recognize the Equation
  345.           Editor.  Word itself and its other associated OLE
  346.           servers work OK.
  347.      
  348.      *    The Help buttons in the OLE dialog boxes for Change
  349.           Icon and the OLE File Browser do not do anything.
  350.      
  351.      *    Context sensitive help for the Object command in the
  352.           OLE menu does not link to the correct help topic.
  353.      
  354.      These bugs are related to OLE 2.0 components supplied
  355.      by Microsoft.
