  18. What's in the distribution?
  19. =======================================================================
  20. This distribution contains Glide, Direct3D drivers for Voodoo2
  21. Based 3D Accelerators and the Voodoo2 Control Panel Applet.
  22.  
  23. This distribution should be used by all OEM's shipping boards for
  24. the Windows 95/98 platform.  It is suggested that the files in this kit
  25. be placed on a driver CD in uncompressed (unzipped) format.

  59. Requirements

  62. - Windows 95 or Windows 98
  63. - PC with a Pentium II, Pentium Pro, Pentium or similar processor
  64. - One free PCI slot (or two free PCI slots for SLI)
  65. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested
  66.

  68. Installation
  69. ------------
  70. The installation below can vary depending on which version of Windows
  71. is installed.  To determine the Windows 95 version click Start, 
  72. Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the system icon. If the 
  73. Windows version is 4.00.950b, Windows 95 OEM SR2 is running.

  76. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr
  77. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  78. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  79.  
  80. 2) Open Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System)
  81.  
  82. 3) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  83.  
  84.        Reference Card: Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device or
  85.                Sound, Video, Game Controllers / Voodoo2
  86.  
  87.    NOTE: In an SLI configiration (2 Voodoo2 cards) you only need to
  88.    select one card to update.

  90. 4) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  91.  
  92.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Driver" and choose
  93.                                         "Have Disk"
  94.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  95.                                         the Next Button.  Click "Other
  96.                                         Locations" 
  97.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  98.                                         the Next Button twice on the
  99.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  100.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  101.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  102.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  104. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  105.    OK.  
  106.  
  107.      Windows Standard Release 95 users: Select "Voodoo2 3D Accelerator" 
  108.                                         from the List and click OK.
  109.                                         Click OK again to save changes in
  110.                                         Device Manager.
  111.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 Users: Click on Finish to continue.
  112.                       Windows 98 users: Click on Next to continue.

  114. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  115.    Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted the files to and press OK.
  116.  
  117. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  118.  
  119. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  123. No Current Drivers Installed (Single Board and SLI)
  124. ---------------------------------------------------

  126. Single Board
  127. ============

  129. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  130.  
  131. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  132.    3D board into a PCI slot. 
  133.  
  134. 3) Restart Windows after hardware installation.
  135.  
  136. 4) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  137.  
  138.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  139.                                         and click OK
  140.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  141.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  142.                                         "Other Locations"
  143.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  144.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  145.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  146.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  147.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  148.  
  149. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  150.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)
  151.  
  152. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  153.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  155. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  156.  
  157. 8) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  160. SLI (Two Voodoo2 Boards with SLI cable)
  161. =======================================

  163. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  164.  
  165. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  166.    3D boards into PCI slots next to each other
  167.  
  168. 3) Connect the SLI cable to both boards.
  169.  
  170. 4) Restart the system and Windows after hardware installation.
  171.  
  172. 5) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  173.  
  174.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  175.                                         and click OK
  176.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  177.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  178.                                         "Other Locations"
  179.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  180.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  181.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  182.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  183.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  185. 6) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  186.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  188. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  189.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  191. 8) Windows will copy the drivers. When prompted to reboot the system, 
  192.    click No. You may be asked to reboot several more times. Manually 
  193.    restart the system by clicking Start, Shutdown and Restart.

  195. 9) Install DirectX 5.0 or higher.  (If not already installed)

  199. Troubleshooting
  200. ---------------

  204. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  205. for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone.
  206.  
  207. Resolution: The Voodoo2 drivers will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics 
  208. drivers.  This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system.
