  25. What's New in Version 1.6 of Fractal Imager
  26. ===========================================
  27.  
  28. This version is bundled with Fractal Viewer 1.6 Plug-in for Netscape Navigator.
  29.  
  30. Long file names are supported in this release of Fractal Imager.

  32. (NOTE: In batch compression mode on WinNT 3.51, only long file names
  33. without spaces are supported.)

  35. The embedded palette option no longer functions in batch compression mode.

  38. Fractal Conversion of GIF and Colormapped Files 
  39. =============================================== 
  40. GIF files and images that are colormapped, especially computer-generated  
  41. artwork, may be larger in the Fractal Image Format (FIF) than in their original 
  42. format.  However, conversion to FIF does provide resolution independence and 
  43. online zooming for the World Wide Web.

  46. Known Problems 
  47. ============== 
  48. 1)  When you use the control panel to change printer settings such as  
  49.     Landscape/Portrait, they do not take effect in Fractal Imager until the 
  50.     next time it is started. 
  51.  
  52. 2)  In 16 color mode, the colors available on your system may not be suitable 
  53.     for displaying some images.  Use a display mode with more colors for better 
  54.     results. 
  55.  
  56. 3)  Displaying black/white images with color images on a 256 color (or less)  
  57.     display mode may result in a poor color usage.  Only the active image will  
  58.     be fully represented by the available colors. 
  59.  
  60. 4)  Color plane information in generated RAS files is in BGR (Blue-Green-Red)  
  61.     order.  Some applications require these files to be in RGB order. 
  62.  
  63. 5)  In batch mode you are allowed to specify a single physical size for all  
  64.     images being compressed.  This physical size needs to match the aspect  
  65.     ratio of all of the images. 
  66.  
  67. 6)  WINDOWS NT 3.5.1 USERS: Please be sure to install Win NT 3.51 Service Pack 3, 
  68.     available from Microsoft.  This service pack fixes a memory leak which can cause the 
  69.     software to run out of memory during routine processing.
  70.  
  71. 7)  Under Windows 95, the dragging of multiple image files onto the Fractal 
  72.     Imager desktop is not supported. 
  73.  
  74. 8)  Batch mode can only compress PCD images that are oriented correctly. Please note that if you
  75.     are using Kodak Photo CD images, you may have a problem with the images not being stored in a 
  76.     correct orientation for correct viewing. 
  77.  
  78. 9)  Compressing certain *.bmp to *.fif in batch mode crashes, while taking those same files that 
  79.     cause the crash and converting them individually works fine.
  80.  
  81. 10) Converting certain *.gif files into *.bmp files causes a crash.
  82.  
  83. 11) Trying to save a series of long filenames on the Novell network causes a false error message.
  84.     This bug occurs if you are compressing sequences of images whose filenames only differ by 
  85.     their sequence number (e.g., longfilename21.fif longfilename22.fif).
