  2. 1. TurboCAD v4 READ ME INTRODUCTION (6 May 1997)

  5. Thank you for purchasing TurboCAD v4 or TurboCAD v4 
  6. Professional.  We at IMSI are sure that you will find 
  7. TurboCAD to be an invaluable resource for your 
  8. day-to-day drawing needs.

  10. Please review this README document which contains late 
  11. breaking information, or information not included in the 
  12. printed documentation.

  15. 2. TurboCAD 3D
  16. -------------------------------------------------------
  17.  
  18. TurboCAD 3D is included on the CD-ROM in the folder 
  19. called TurboCAD 3D. To install it, run the SETUP.EXE 
  20. installation program located in that folder. Documentation 
  21. for the 3D program is in electronic form, located in the 
  22. "TurboCAD 3D\3D Manual". For installation instructions 
  23. please see the README file located in that folder.

  26. 3. INTERFACE CONFIGURATIONS

  29. 3.1. RESOLUTION SPECIFIC USER INTERFACES
  30.  
  31. TurboCAD has the ability to recognize the screen resolution 
  32. that you are using. (You can change your screen resolution 
  33. in Windows 95 by  right-clicking the Desktop and choosing 
  34. Properties.) A different (but similar) interface will appear 
  35. for each resolution. If you change your screen resolution 
  36. between drawing sessions, TurboCAD will inform you that 
  37. the most recently used interface does not correspond to the 
  38. current screen resolution, and ask you if you want to load it. 
  39. If you answer NO, a new interface will appear that is 
  40. tailored specifically for the new resolution. You may also 
  41. load different interfaces manually via  
  42. "Tools|Customize|Setup|Load From".
  43.  
  44. 3.2. MULTI-LEVEL INTERFACES
  45.  
  46. TurboCAD ships with several different levels of user 
  47. interfaces. You can load the different interfaces via 
  48. "Tools|Customize|Setup|Load From".
  49.  
  50. The "Beginner" interface is a scaled down version of the 
  51. "Standard" (Intermediate) interface. Users who feel that they are 
  52. overwhelmed by the number of buttons and tools available 
  53. in the Standard interface should consider using this option. 
  54.  
  55. The "Standard" (Intermediate) interface contains all 
  56. commands. It is the default interface which is used in the 
  57. documentation and for the different screen resolutions. We 
  58. recommend that you use this interface.
  59.  
  60. The "Tabbed" (Advanced) interface is a bold attempt to 
  61. redefine the normal methods that Windows uses for menus 
  62. and toolbars. Advanced users, who know TurboCAD and 
  63. Windows commands, might prefer it to the alternative 
  64. interfaces. The new user who is still trying to get a grip on 
  65. standard Windows and TurboCAD functions may find it 
  66. rather overwhelming, as it is so different from conventional 
  67. methods.

  70. 4. INTERNET FUNCTIONALITY
  71. -------------------------------------------------------

  73. TurboCAD exploits the convenience of the Internet in that 
  74. Auto-Registration, Technical Support and Program Updates 
  75. are available online. You may have to log onto your Internet 
  76. Service Provider (ISP) before using any of these Internet 
  77. capabilities. However, if you are using Internet Explorer 
  78. 3.01, or Windows 95 (released after 1st October 96), which 
  79. contains automatic dial-up features, TurboCAD will 
  80. automatically connect you to your ISP, if you are not 
  81. already connected.

  83. 4.1. Internet Explorer 3.02
  84.  
  85. Shipped on the TurboCAD CD, in the folder called "Internet 
  86. Explorer", you will find the latest version of Microsoft's 
  87. Internet Explorer. As mentioned above, this installation 
  88. contains important automatic dial-up features which will 
  89. enable you to use TurboCAD Internet functionality without 
  90. prior connection to your ISP.

  92. You can also use  Internet Explorer (or other web browsers 
  93. such as Netscape) to take a highly recommended visit to the 
  94. TurboCAD Web site (www.turbocad.com) for up-to-the-
  95. minute product information.

  98. 5. FONTS
  99. -------------------------------------------------------
  100.  
  101. TurboCAD includes two new TrueType fonts (Letter Gothic 
  102. and Orator) which are both monospaced fonts. These fonts 
  103. are thin and equally spaced, similar to the more traditional 
  104. CAD fonts used in other CAD packages. You should 
  105. consider using these fonts if you intend to import and export 
  106. drawings from other packages.

  109. 6. DIMENSIONING
  110. -------------------------------------------------------

  112. 6.1. TRAILING ZEROS
  113.  
  114. New to TurboCAD v4 is the ability to add trailing zeros to a 
  115. dimension to illustrate the accuracy by the number of 
  116. decimal places. Two settings affect the functionality of this 
  117. new feature: Precision (found in Options|Units and Scale) 
  118. and Round Off (found in the dimension property sheet). 
  119. These two settings should be set to the following:
  120.  
  121. If Precision is set to 1, set Round Off to 0.1
  122. If Precision is set to 2, set Round Off to 0.01
  123. If Precision is set to 3, set Round Off to 0.001 etc.
  124.  
  125. If these two settings are not set like this, unexpected results 
  126. can occur.  For example, if Precision is 4 and Round Off is 
  127. only at 0.01, the third and fourth decimal places will always 
  128. be zero regardless of the true dimension.

  130. 6.2. LEADER USED AS ARROW LINE
  131.  
  132. The Leader dimension can be used as a line with an 
  133. arrowhead if the "Force Text Horizontal" option is 
  134. unchecked in the dimension property sheet. Define the point 
  135. where you would like the arrow head, move the cursor to the 
  136. point where you want the line to start, press <Tab> and then 
  137. delete the text string. Press <Ctrl>+<F> to finish.

  139. 6.3. BLOCKS
  140.  
  141. Segment or Entity dimensioning methods will not work on 
  142. blocks. You have to either explode the block before 
  143. dimensioning or use the manual method for dimensioning 
  144. using vertex snaps.

  147. 7. RUBBER STAMP
  148. -------------------------------------------------------
  149.  
  150. The Rubber Stamp command, available when right-clicking 
  151. selected objects, now works with snap modes and relocated 
  152. reference points. As a result, this command offers a viable 
  153. alternative to the normal Copy commands.

  156. 8. QUICK TOUR
  157. -------------------------------------------------------

  159. The TurboCAD Quick Tour (launched from the opening 
  160. screen) is a very informative tour of the most important 
  161. features of TurboCAD. Quick Tour uses Demoshield as a 
  162. menu, and Lotus ScreenCam to display demonstrations of 
  163. the features in TurboCAD. The ScreenCam files are rather 
  164. large and by default the Tour runs from the CD-ROM. Be 
  165. sure to place the CD in the drive before running the Tour.

  167. 8.1. LOCATION
  168.  
  169. When you run the Quick Tour, without the TurboCAD CD 
  170. in the drive, you will be prompted for a location. The folder 
  171. on the CD-ROM is \QuickTour\.
  172.

  174. 9. DIGITIZERS
  175. -------------------------------------------------------
  176.  
  177. This version of TurboCAD does not support digitizers. In 
  178. the past digitizers in TurboCAD have typically been used to 
  179. trace existing drawings. The Raster-to-Vector converter 
  180. (File|Trace) should speed up this process dramatically, 
  181. virtually eliminating the need for a digitizer if you have a 
  182. scanner.

  185. 10. SDK (SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT KIT)

  191. updates regarding the Software Development Kit.

  194. 11. INTERNET FORUMS

  197. The standard support forums and the beta forums for future 
  198. versions of TurboCAD are a good way of getting the 
  199. answers that you cannot find elsewhere. Please make sure 
  200. that you check the forums regularly for discussions, views, 
  201. solutions, and tips and tricks from the TurboCAD support 
  202. staff as well as from other TurboCAD users.

  205. 12. SUPPORT

  208. The best place to receive support is online at 
  209. www.turbocad.com. Click on the Support option. If you do 
  210. not have Internet access you can call IMSI support at 
  211. 415-257-3000 ext. 3.

  214. 13. UPGRADE INFORMATION FOR TurboCAD 3.0 
  215. USERS 
  216. -------------------------------------------------------
  217.  
  218. Please note that when you install TurboCAD v4, it does not 
  219. remove or update your copy of TurboCAD 3.0. TurboCAD 
  220. 3.0 remains on your system. You can continue to use both 
  221. programs.

  224. 14. LINE/PEN WIDTHS
  225. -------------------------------------------------------
  226.  
  227. The default pen width of zero will print the thinnest line 
  228. possible on a given printer. On high resolution printers this 
  229. may appear too thin, particularly for dimensions. The 
  230. default printing width of entities with pen width zero can be 
  231. adjusted via Options|Display. Setting this default width to 
  232. zero will have functionality similar to TurboCAD 3.0.

  235. 15. ENABLE BASIC DEBUGGER - KNOWN PROBLEMS
  236. -------------------------------------------------------

  238. There are some known problems with the Enable Basic debugger 
  239. due to errors in the Enable32.dll from Cypress. 
  240.  
  241. The issues relate to the tools Go and Step Into.
  242.  
  243. Cypress Enable's function for stepping into functions/subroutines 
  244. does not work correctly. It will not pass the correct parameters
  245. to the functions/subroutines. Go uses Step Into so that it
  246. can monitor when to stop for a breakpoint.  You can use Go and
  247. Step Into with functions/subroutines that do not take any
  248. input parameters.

  250. For functions/subroutines that do take parameters, you can use Step 
  251. Over to single step your programs, though you will not be able 
  252. to "step into" subroutines/functions.
  253.  
  254. This defect also affects TCWAppPropertyGet/Set, TCWDrawingPropertyGet/Set,
  255. TCWGraphicPropertyGet/Set and TCWLayerPropertyGet/Set since
  256. they are written in Enable Basic. The wrong parameters will be passed to 
  257. the TCADAPI DLL and the debugger may crash or give erroneous errors.

  259. Step Over works correctly for functions/subroutines. 
  260.  
  261. It you only have one subroutine or function and you do not use the 
  262. PropertyGet/Set routines, Go, Step Into and Step Over are fully 
  263. functional.  You can also use the debugger to create and compile
  264. your Enable Basic scripts.
  265.
