  5. Thank you for purchasing TurboCAD v4 or TurboCAD v4 
  6. Professional.  We at IMSI are sure that you will find 
  7. TurboCAD to be an invaluable resource for your 
  8. day-to-day drawing needs.

  11. breaking information, or information not included in the 
  12. printed documentation.

  21. 3. INTERFACE CONFIGURATIONS

  24. 3.1. RESOLUTION SPECIFIC USER INTERFACES
  25.  
  26. TurboCAD has the ability to recognize the screen resolution 
  27. that you are using. (You can change your screen resolution 
  28. in Windows 95 by  right-clicking the Desktop and choosing 
  29. Properties.) A different (but similar) interface will appear 
  30. for each resolution. If you change your screen resolution 
  31. between drawing sessions, TurboCAD will inform you that 
  32. the most recently used interface does not correspond to the 
  33. current screen resolution, and ask you if you want to load it. 
  34. If you answer NO, a new interface will appear that is 
  35. tailored specifically for the new resolution. You may also 
  36. load different interfaces manually via  
  37. "Tools|Customize|Setup|Load From".
  38.  
  39. 3.2. MULTI-LEVEL INTERFACES
  40.  
  41. TurboCAD ships with several different levels of user 
  42. interfaces. You can load the different interfaces via 
  43. "Tools|Customize|Setup|Load From".
  44.  
  45. The "Beginner" interface is a scaled down version of the 
  46. "Standard" (Intermediate) interface. Users who feel that they are 
  47. overwhelmed by the number of buttons and tools available 
  48. in the Standard interface should consider using this option. 
  49.  
  50. The "Standard" (Intermediate) interface contains all 
  51. commands. It is the default interface which is used in the 
  52. documentation and for the different screen resolutions. We 
  53. recommend that you use this interface.
  54.  
  55. The "Tabbed" (Advanced) interface is a bold attempt to 
  56. redefine the normal methods that Windows uses for menus 
  57. and toolbars. Advanced users, who know TurboCAD and 
  58. Windows commands, might prefer it to the alternative 
  59. interfaces. The new user who is still trying to get a grip on 
  60. standard Windows and TurboCAD functions may find it 
  61. rather overwhelming, as it is so different from conventional 
  62. methods.

  65. 4. INTERNET FUNCTIONALITY
  66. -------------------------------------------------------

  68. TurboCAD exploits the convenience of the Internet in that 
  69. Auto-Registration, Technical Support and Program Updates 
  70. are available online. You may have to log onto your Internet 
  71. Service Provider (ISP) before using any of these Internet 
  72. capabilities. However, if you are using Internet Explorer 
  73. 3.01, or Windows 95 (released after 1st October 96), which 
  74. contains automatic dial-up features, TurboCAD will 
  75. automatically connect you to your ISP, if you are not 
  76. already connected.

  78. 4.1. Internet Explorer 3.02
  79.  
  80. Shipped on the TurboCAD CD, in the folder called "Internet 
  81. Explorer", you will find the latest version of Microsoft's 
  82. Internet Explorer. As mentioned above, this installation 
  83. contains important automatic dial-up features which will 
  84. enable you to use TurboCAD Internet functionality without 
  85. prior connection to your ISP.

  87. You can also use  Internet Explorer (or other web browsers 
  88. such as Netscape) to take a highly recommended visit to the 
  89. TurboCAD Web site (www.turbocad.com) for up-to-the-
  90. minute product information.

  93. 5. FONTS
  94. -------------------------------------------------------
  95.  
  96. TurboCAD includes two new TrueType fonts (Letter Gothic 
  97. and Orator) which are both monospaced fonts. These fonts 
  98. are thin and equally spaced, similar to the more traditional 
  99. CAD fonts used in other CAD packages. You should 
  100. consider using these fonts if you intend to import and export 
  101. drawings from other packages.

  104. 6. DIMENSIONING
  105. -------------------------------------------------------

  107. 6.1. TRAILING ZEROS
  108.  
  109. New to TurboCAD v4 is the ability to add trailing zeros to a 
  110. dimension to illustrate the accuracy by the number of 
  111. decimal places. Two settings affect the functionality of this 
  112. new feature: Precision (found in Options|Units and Scale) 
  113. and Round Off (found in the dimension property sheet). 
  114. These two settings should be set to the following:
  115.  
  116. If Precision is set to 1, set Round Off to 0.1
  117. If Precision is set to 2, set Round Off to 0.01
  118. If Precision is set to 3, set Round Off to 0.001 etc.
  119.  
  120. If these two settings are not set like this, unexpected results 
  121. can occur.  For example, if Precision is 4 and Round Off is 
  122. only at 0.01, the third and fourth decimal places will always 
  123. be zero regardless of the true dimension.

  125. 6.2. LEADER USED AS ARROW LINE
  126.  
  127. The Leader dimension can be used as a line with an 
  128. arrowhead if the "Force Text Horizontal" option is 
  129. unchecked in the dimension property sheet. Define the point 
  130. where you would like the arrow head, move the cursor to the 
  131. point where you want the line to start, press <Tab> and then 
  132. delete the text string. Press <Ctrl>+<F> to finish.

  134. 6.3. BLOCKS
  135.  
  136. Segment or Entity dimensioning methods will not work on 
  137. blocks. You have to either explode the block before 
  138. dimensioning or use the manual method for dimensioning 
  139. using vertex snaps.

  142. 7. RUBBER STAMP
  143. -------------------------------------------------------

  145. The Rubber Stamp command, available when right-clicking 
  146. selected objects, now works with snap modes and relocated 
  147. reference points. As a result, this command offers a viable 
  148. alternative to the normal Copy commands.
  149.

  151. 8. QUICK TOUR
  152. -------------------------------------------------------

  154. The TurboCAD Quick Tour (launched from the opening 
  155. screen) is a very informative tour of the most important 
  156. features of TurboCAD. Quick Tour uses Demoshield as a 
  157. menu, and Lotus ScreenCam to display demonstrations of 
  158. the features in TurboCAD. The ScreenCam files are rather 
  159. large and by default the Tour runs from the CD-ROM. Be 
  160. sure to place the CD in the drive before running the Tour.

  162. 8.1. LOCATION
  163.  
  164. When you run the Quick Tour, without the TurboCAD CD 
  165. in the drive, you will be prompted for a location. The folder 
  166. on the CD-ROM is \QuickTour\.

  169. 9. DIGITIZERS
  170. -------------------------------------------------------

  172. This version of TurboCAD does not support digitizers. In 
  173. the past digitizers in TurboCAD have typically been used to 
  174. trace existing drawings. The Raster-to-Vector converter 
  175. (File|Trace) should speed up this process dramatically, 
  176. virtually eliminating the need for a digitizer if you have a 
  177. scanner.

  180. 10. SDK (SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT KIT)

  189. 11. INTERNET FORUMS

  192. The standard support forums and the beta forums for future 
  193. versions of TurboCAD are a good way of getting the 
  194. answers that you cannot find elsewhere. Please make sure 
  195. that you check the forums regularly for discussions, views, 
  196. solutions, and tips and tricks from the TurboCAD support 
  197. staff as well as from other TurboCAD users.

  200. 12. SUPPORT

  203. The best place to receive support is online at 
  204. www.turbocad.com. Click on the Support option. If you do 
  205. not have Internet access you can call IMSI support at

  209. 13. UPGRADE INFORMATION FOR TurboCAD 3.0 
  210. USERS 
  211. -------------------------------------------------------
  212.  
  213. Please note that when you install TurboCAD v4, it does not 
  214. remove or update your copy of TurboCAD 3.0. TurboCAD 
  215. 3.0 remains on your system. You can continue to use both 
  216. programs.
  217.

  219. 14. LINE/PEN WIDTHS
  220. -------------------------------------------------------
  221.  
  222. The default pen width of zero will print the thinnest line 
  223. possible on a given printer. On high resolution printers this 
  224. may appear too thin, particularly for dimensions. The 
  225. default printing width of entities with pen width zero can be 
  226. adjusted via Options|Display. Setting this default width to 
  227. zero will have functionality similar to TurboCAD 3.0.
  228.

  230. 15. ENABLE BASIC DEBUGGER - KNOWN PROBLEMS
  231. -------------------------------------------------------

  233. There are some known problems with the Enable Basic debugger 
  234. due to errors in the Enable32.dll from Cypress. 
  235.  
  236. The issues relate to the tools Go and Step Into.
  237.  
  238. Cypress Enable's function for stepping into functions/subroutines 
  239. does not work correctly. It will not pass the correct parameters
  240. to the functions/subroutines. Go uses Step Into so that it
  241. can monitor when to stop for a breakpoint.  You can use Go and
  242. Step Into with functions/subroutines that do not take any
  243. input parameters.
  244.  
  245. For functions/subroutines that do take parameters, you can use Step 
  246. Over to single step your programs, though you will not be able 
  247. to "step into" subroutines/functions.
  248.  
  249. This defect also affects TCWAppPropertyGet/Set, TCWDrawingPropertyGet/Set,
  250. TCWGraphicPropertyGet/Set and TCWLayerPropertyGet/Set since
  251. they are written in Enable Basic. The wrong parameters will be passed to 
  252. the TCADAPI DLL and the debugger may crash or give erroneous errors.

  254. Step Over works correctly for functions/subroutines. 
  255.  
  256. It you only have one subroutine or function and you do not use the 
  257. PropertyGet/Set routines, Go, Step Into and Step Over are fully 
  258. functional.  You can also use the debugger to create and compile
  259. your Enable Basic scripts.
  260.
