  1. Introduction

  4. Welcome to SkyMap v1.2, the latest release of what will become, with
  5. *your* help, the finest astronomy program available for Microsoft Windows.
  6. Note that SkyMap will only run under Windows 3.1 or later - it will *not*
  7. work with Windows 3.0, I'm afraid.
  8.  
  9. In this ZIP archive file you should have the following files:
  10.  
  11.     README.1ST          This file!
  12.     HISTORY.TXT         A release history of SkyMap.
  13.     REGISTER.TXT        A sample registration form.
  14.     SKYMAP.EXE          The main SkyMap program.
  15.     SKYMAP.HLP          The program's on-line help file.
  16.     SKYMAP.WRI          The manual, in "Windows Write" format.
  17.  
  18. As well as these files you will also need the data files and dynamic link
  19. libraries contained in the separate file SKYMAP1D.ZIP.  If you are upgrading
  20. from an earlier version of SkyMap you do *not* need these files - they
  21. have not changed.

  23. To install SkyMap, simply copy all the files into a directory - it's as
  24. easy as that!
  25.     
  26. To find out more about SkyMap, please run "Write" and read, or print the
  27. manual contained in the file SKYMAP.WRI.  This file contains a number of
  28. pictures.  If you're using a "SuperVGA" display mode you may find that
  29. you get an error when you try and look at the pictures; that's due to a
  30. bug in "Write" (honestly!), *not* a problem with the file.  If you
  31. temporarily revert to the standard VGA driver you'll be able to view them
  32. without any problems.

  35. Legal Stuff

  38. Now for a bit of legal stuff.  SkyMap is *not* free software, it's
  39. "ShareWare".  You can try it out for a reasonable period of time - I'll
  40. leave it up to you to define what "reasonable" means!  If you find it
  41. useful, please send me the modest registration fee, as described in the
  42. manual and on-line help.  That will give *you* various goodies, as
  43. described in the manual, and will give *me* the incentive to carry on
  44. developing the software!

  46. Feel free to distribute this shareware version of SkyMap in any way you
  47. like, as long as you distribute the original ZIP archives, and keep all
  48. the file together.  I'd like it to get to as many people as possible!

  54. Thank you for trying out SkyMap.  As I said at the start of the file, my
  55. humble (!) goal is to make SkyMap the best astronomy program around for
  56. Microsoft Windows.  The only way I can do that is by finding out what
  57. people would like to see added to (or taken away from!) the program.
