  29. Here is a breakdown of what this distribution contains:

  31.     Section 1 = user commands (intro only)
  32.     Section 2 = system calls
  33.     Section 3 = libc calls
  34.     Section 4 = devices (e.g., hd, sd)
  35.     Section 5 = file formats (e.g., wtmp, /etc/passwd)
  36.     Section 6 = games (intro only)
  37.     Section 7 = conventions, macro packages, etc. (e.g., nroff, ascii)
  38.     Section 8 = system administration (intro only)
  39.     Section 9 = internal kernel routines (for kernel hackers?)
  40.  
  41.     (Usually, there are no section 1, 6 and 8 man pages because these
  42.     should be distributed with the binaries they are written for.)

  44.     Note that only Section 2 is really complete, but Section 3 contains
  45.     several hundred man pages.  If you want to write some man pages,
  46.     please join the linux-doc mailing list on the vger.rutgers.edu server.
