  17. 1. WHAT IS PRIVATEEXE FOR WIN'95/NT
  18. -----------------------------------
  19. PrivateEXE for Win'95/NT is an innovative software which allows 
  20. you to password protect existing Windows executables, both 16-bit 
  21. designed for Windows 3.1 and 32-bit for Windows'95/NT.

  23. PrivateEXE is safe and efficient. Unlike other "protection" 
  24. software, it does not run in the background to provide its 
  25. functionality as the protection is incorporated into .EXE
  26. file itself.

  28. With the other software, which claims to be "password protecting", 
  29. an intruder can simply kill the protection program or remove it 
  30. from startup group to disable entire mechanism. PrivateEXE protects
  31. program itself, not its icon. The program will remain locked even 
  32. if you run it from plain command line.

  34. Passwords can be set, changed, and removed separately for each 
  35. program. PrivateEXE modifies existing .EXE file, so that the 
  36. program, if invoked, first asks the user for a password and would 
  37. not start unless the correct password is entered.

  39. PrivateEXE runs on both Windows'95 and Windows/NT. It operates 
  40. regardless of installed file system type (NTFS, FAT-32, FAT, 
  41. etc.). The software doesn't modify Windows Registry or any other 
  42. part of the operating system. Neither does it create any hidden 
  43. files or disk sectors - it only modifies the executable itself, 
  44. saving the original file under a different name for your safety.

  47. 2. HOW TO INSTALL AND RUN THE SOFTWARE?

  49. The original PrivateEXE for Win'95/NT distribution consists of the 
  50. following files:

  58. To install the software, you must be running Windows'95 or 
  59. Windows/NT and have about 300KB of free disk space. To start the 
  60. installation please run SETUP.EXE. It will ask you for destination 
  61. drive and directory, and then will transfer necessary files to 
  62. your hard drive and create program shortcut or Program Manager 
  63. group complete with icons. To run the software just double click 
  64. on "PrivateEXE" icon.

  67. 3. WHAT IS THE SHAREWARE EVALUATION COPY?
  68. -----------------------------------------
  69. PrivateEXE is neither free nor public domain software. It 
  70. copyrighted software, which is distributed as SHAREWARE, i.e. 
  71. using true "try before you buy" method.

  73. This version of PrivateEXE is intended for evaluation purposes 
  74. only. It is fully functional program. However, it features ways to 
  75. bypass the protection: "Bypass Password Protection" button is 
  76. displayed at random in the dialog prompting the user for the 
  77. password.  "Alt+B" combination is a keyboard shortcut for the same 
  78. purpose, and it works even when the button is not displayed.

  80. You may use the evaluation copy freely and without any obligations 
  81. for 30 days. Thereafter, if you like the software and wish to 
  82. continue using it, you must pay for it.

  84. The licensed version of PrivateEXE has NO "Bypass Password 
  85. Protection" button. Also, in the full licensed version pressing 
  86. "ALT+B" to bypass password protection has NO effect.
