  162.         1.1 FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATION

  164.         The Warp Registry Editor (REGEDIT2.EXE) was designed to be
  165.         functionally equivalent to the Registry Editor found in Win95 and
  166.         NT4.0. In addition to supporting the Open32 Registry Keys, the Warp
  167.         Registry Editor also supports the standard OS/2 Profile keys and
  168.         files (*.INI).  This was done in a manner as to appear "seamless"
  169.         to the user providing a single user interface that combines both
  170.         universes on the Warp platform.

  174.         1.2 FEATURES

  179.         1.2.1 EDITOR ARRANGEMENT
  180.  
  181.         The registry editor consists of two panes separated by a split bar.
  182.         The pane on the left holds the Registry Keys and Subkeys while the
  183.         pane on the right holds the Key Values and Data.  When a key is
  184.         selected in the left pane, the Keys Values and Data
  185.         areautomatically updated in the right pane.  The left pane is setup
  186.         in the traditional OS/2 Folder Tree View while the right pane uses
  187.         the OS/2 Folder Details view.  The split bar can be manipulated by
  188.         clicking on the bar with the left mouse button and adjusting it
  189.         left or right.  The columns in the right pane automatically size
  190.         themselves to hold the data.  If the data is too large to be
  191.         completely viewed in the editor, it is truncated.  This is
  192.         indicated by an ellipse (...) at the end of the data.  To view more
  193.         data either resize the editor or edit the field.

  197.         1.2.2 DATA EDITING

  199.         The editor allows you to edit the values of Keys, Values, and Data.
  200.         Key Names are always edited in place.  The edit feature can be
  201.         activated by selecting the key using the mouse or keyboard arrow
  202.         keys and then pressing Enter on the keyboard, double clicking with
  203.         the left mouse button, or holding the ALT key and clicking with the
  204.         left mouse button.  Value Names are also edited in place.  This
  205.         edit feature can be activated by selecting the value using the
  206.         mouse or keyboard arrow keys and then holding the ALT key and
  207.         clicking with the left mouse button in the Name Column to .....

  216.         activated by selecting the Value Data using the mouse or keyboard

  220.         in place editing for String Data) in the Data Column.  There are

  228.         selected and which of the two panes have focus.  In addition, a
  229.         popup menu can be invoked for any item on the panes by clicking the

  236.         This feature allows you to import any file using the Win95/NT 4.0
  237.         ASCII Registry Format (*.REG).  This format is not well documented
  238.         (even on the Windows platform) but has the basic form:

  265.         from an ASCII *.REG file.

  275.         1.3.2 EXPORT REGISTRY FILE
  276.  
  277.         This feature allows you to export any [KEY] and its subkeys and
  278.         data to a file of your choosing.  You can back up the entire Win
  279.         Registry and/or OS/2 System and User Profiles using this feature
  280.         and then restore them at a later date by importing the file (of
  281.         course take care!).  It is most useful for QE/Testing purposes when
  282.         you need to either wipe out your registry or you are trying to
  283.         support multiple versions of the products in several different
  284.         directories.  By selectively exporting/importing the Registry
  285.         Configurations, you can switch between multiple versions.

  291.         This feature allow you to open any OS/2 Profile File (*.INI) and
  292.         view/edit its contents.  It is also useful for creating NEW Profile
  293.         files and then adding information to those files using the editor

  329.         1.3.7 EDIT NEW STRING, BINARY, DWORD VALUE
  330.  
  331.         This feature allows you to add a new Value of the selected data
  332.         type to an existing Registry Key.  In Win95/NT, every Registry Key
  333.         has at least one value called "Default" which is a String Data
  334.         type.  When a user adds a Value to a key, they must identify its
  335.         data type.  The user interface supports one of three data types, a
  336.         String (defined as a NULL terminated ASCII value), a DWORD (defined
  337.         as a 4 byte unsigned long value), and HEX (defined as any sequence
  338.         of binary bytes of arbitrary length).  The OS/2 Profile does not
  339.         support data types so the Editor uses the above definitions to
  340.         determine the type of data stored in a Profile Key and presents it
  341.         as such to the user.  This is done to be consistent with the UI.

  347.         This feature allow you to delete a Registry Key and it's subkeys or
  348.         a Registry Key Value.

  354.         This feature allows you to search through any combination of Keys,
  355.         Values, and Data for a search string you designate.  In the case of
  356.         binary data, all values are converted to byte hex numbers separated
  357.         by commas during the search (similar to the *.REG format).  For
  358.         DWORD's, the value being searched is converted to an unsigned long
  359.         value before the match is attempted.
