Readme for PGPEASY V1.1.1
=========================
1.Introduction
PGP Easy Rider is a front-end for "Pretty Good Privacy", the encryption
software developed by Phil Zimmermann and others. While PGP itself provides a
pretty good way of ensuring you a valuable piece of privacy - based on public
key encryption - it requires the user to handle a rather complicated
command-line interface. PGP Easy Rider will help the user in easy PGP command
generation and display of PGP results. Read the online documentation for
details, please.
What is different in PGP Easy Rider from other OS/2-front-ends:
- transparent handling of multiple public keyrings: you may use a small
keyring for your daily transactions and still have a big one for
special situations
- you may encrypt a whole directory or part of it in one run. Just
specify a directory and a file mask, and start!
- you may directly send encrypted files with "sendmail" if you are
connected to a network
- easy administration of a "password file" where you may keep all your
secret passwords, pins, telephone numbers etc.
- display, check and modify the generated PGP-command - this feature thus
serves as a tutorial for PGP.
- and some other features - just have a look!
2.Installation
Prereqisites: OS/2 with REXX, PGP
pgpeasy.zip contains the following files:
pgpeasy.exe
pgpeasy.hlp
vrobj.dll
order.txt
bmtmicro.asc (BMT Micro's public key)
philipp.asc (my public key)
pgpeasy.chg (the change history)
readme.1st (this file)
Unzip this file into a temporary directory.
a) Copy pgpeasy.exe into a directory in your PATH (I prefer the PGP-directory).
b) Copy vrobj.dll into a directory in your LIBPATH. This is version 2.1D, so
pay attention that there is no other vrobj.dll which is older and perhaps
not compatible.
c) Copy pgpeasy.hlp into a directory in your HELP-path.
d) Copy bmtmicro.asc into your PGP-directory - you may need this public key
for encrypting your registration form.
With the first call of the program you will create a PGPEASY.INI file
which will be used to store your default options. Note however, that PGP Easy
Rider will NEVER store your passphrase on your hard disk or other permanent
media. If you prefer to enter it once for several uses it will be kept in
memory and wiped out from there when you select to do so or after you exit
the program.
3. Registration
This program is shareware, not freeware. After a trial period you should
register. For details of registration see the menu item
"How to register" under "Registration"
or print and fill out the file order.txt and send it to BMT Micro or via
Email to
bmt@wilmington.net
4. Warranty
I will not in any event be liable for any damages, including without
limitation consequential, incidental, indirect, special, or exemplary
damages, lost data, or lost profits, arising out of use or inability to use
the product, or for any claim by any third party.
