  4. 1.Introduction
  5.  
  6. PGP Easy Rider is a front-end for "Pretty Good Privacy", the encryption
  7. software developed by Phil Zimmermann and others. While PGP itself provides a
  8. pretty good way of ensuring you a valuable piece of privacy - based on public
  9. key encryption - it requires the user to handle a rather complicated
  10. command-line interface. PGP Easy Rider will help the user in easy PGP command
  11. generation and display of PGP results. Read the online documentation for
  12. details, please.

  14. What is different in PGP Easy Rider from other OS/2-front-ends:
  15.  
  16.   - transparent handling of multiple public keyrings: you may use a small
  17.     keyring for your daily transactions and still have a big one for
  18.     special situations
  19.  
  20.   - you may encrypt a whole directory or part of it in one run. Just
  21.     specify a directory and a file mask, and start!
  22.  
  23.   - you may directly send encrypted files with "sendmail" if you are
  24.     connected to a network
  25.  
  26.   - easy administration of a "password file" where you may keep all your
  27.     secret passwords, pins, telephone numbers etc.
  28.  
  29.   - display, check and modify the generated PGP-command - this feature thus
  30.     serves as a tutorial for PGP.
  31.  
  32.   - and some other features - just have a look!

  34. 2.Installation
  35.  
  36. Prereqisites: OS/2 with REXX, PGP
  37.  
  38. pgpeasy.zip contains the following files:
  39.  
  40.    pgpeasy.exe
  41.    pgpeasy.hlp
  42.    vrobj.dll
  43.    order.txt
  44.    bmtmicro.asc   (BMT Micro's public key)
  45.    philipp.asc    (my public key)
  46.    pgpeasy.chg    (the change history)
  47.    readme.1st     (this file)

  49. Unzip this file into a temporary directory.
  50.  
  51. a) Copy pgpeasy.exe into a directory in your PATH (I prefer the PGP-directory).
  52.  
  53. b) Copy vrobj.dll into a directory in your LIBPATH. This is version 2.1D, so
  54.    pay attention that there is no other vrobj.dll which is older and perhaps
  55.    not compatible.

  57. c) Copy pgpeasy.hlp into a directory in your HELP-path.
  58.  
  59. d) Copy bmtmicro.asc into your PGP-directory - you may need this public key
  60.    for encrypting your registration form.
  61.  
  62. With the first call of the program you will create a PGPEASY.INI file
  63. which will be used to store your default options. Note however, that PGP Easy
  64. Rider will NEVER store your passphrase on your hard disk or other permanent
  65. media. If you prefer to enter it once for several uses it will be kept in
  66. memory and wiped out from there when you select to do so or after you exit
  67. the program.

  71. This program is shareware, not freeware. After a trial period you should
  72. register. For details of registration see the menu item
