  11. Overview
  12. The eViewer is required to open software products created by eMedia 
  13. Communications Ltd. For example, eCards, multimedia postcards for the 
  14. internet, need to be opened by an eViewer. 
  15.  
  16. eCards are cross platform and can be opened by an eViewer for the specific platform.
  17.  
  18. There are many different types of eCards - greeting eCards, proSports eCards, 
  19. animated eCards etc. The eViewer will view any of these eCards.
  20.  
  21. To successfully receive an eCard through an e-mail account you should have 
  22. your email package set up to be MIME compliant.

  28. ---------------------------
  29. Opens an eCard. Find the eCard on your hard drive in the dialog box 
  30. that pops up and open it. Close your eCard to return to the eViewer.

  32. If your eCard was created on a system using more than 256 colours, and 
  33. your system is set to 256 colours, you will see a message telling you that 
  34. the quality of image you are about to see will not be as good as it could 
  35. be.

  37. You can click on the buttons of the eCard to experience them. 
  38. Some turn over, some have animation, they all have sound. 
  39. If your system is working fine and you do not hear sound it is probably
  40. because the maker of the eCard decided not to include sound.

  42. While you may copy pictures to your computer's clipboard remember to obey 
  43. copyright laws. Makers and/or distibutors of images hold the copyright to 
  44. these images and you are not allowed to copy or use these images for your 
  45. own purposes. If on the other hand Uncle Bill sent you a picture of the 
  46. family at DisneyWorld, it's probable that Uncle Bill would not mind if you 
  47. printed off a copy of the picture.

  49. Types
  50. ---------------------------
  51. After you have opened up an eCard in will be registered as a type and you can click on
  52. the type here. This will bring you to a screen where the types are listed on the left and the
  53. eCards of that type are listed on the right. Clicking on a different type on the left will load
  54. the cards of that type in the right box. Clicking on the eCard on the right will load that eCard.

  58. To create an eCard you need an eCard Maker. Presently an eCard maker is 
  59. available for Windows 95. Check our site (http://www.emedialtd.com) to see if 
  60. the eCard Maker for Windows 3.1 is available, if you want an eCard Maker for 
  61. that platform. The eCard Maker is shareware and will allow you to create a 
  62. limited number of eCards before you must register.

  66. Close the program. Shows the Macromedia logo for Director - the program this 
  67. software was authored with.

  72. Shareware  distribution  gives  users  a  chance  to try software before 
  73. buying it.  If you try  a Shareware program and continue using it, you are 
  74. expected  to  register. Individual programs differ  on  details  --  some  
  75. request registration while others require  it,  some   specify   a   maximum 
  76.  trial  period.   With registration, you get anything from the simple right 
  77. to  continue using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  81. copyright holder retains  all rights, with a few specific exceptions as 
  82. stated below.  Shareware authors  are  accomplished programmers,  just  like 
  83. commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality.  (In  both  
  84. cases, there are good programs and bad ones!)  The  main  difference  is  in 
  85.  the  method   of distribution.   The  author specifically grants the right 
  86. to copy and distribute the software, either  to  all  and sundry or to a 
  87. specific  group.   For  example,  some  authors require  written permission  
  88. before a  commercial  disk  vendor  may  copy  their Shareware.

  92. find  software that  suits  your  needs  and pocketbook, whether it's 
  93. commercial or Shareware.  The Shareware system makes fitting your needs

  96. -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
