  1. VPOP3 README
  2. =============
  3.  
  4. VPOP3 is a 'Virtual POP3' server.
  5.  
  6. It is designed for connections where your ISP gives you a single POP3 mailbox
  7. which contains mail for <anyone>@<address>, so a single POP3 mailbox may
  8. contain messages for fred, jim, bert etc. VPOP3 will separate out these
  9. messages working from certain rules which you can specify, and then presents
  10. several separate POP3 mailboxes, one for each user. These POP3 mailboxes can
  11. then be access from standard POP3 aware EMail software such as Pegasus Mail, 
  12. Microsoft Exchange (Internet Mail addon), Microsoft Internet Mail, Eudora, etc.

  14. VPOP3 also has many more exciting features. Take a look at the Introduction
  15. in the help file for a quick summary of some of them.

  17. Licence & Warranty
  18. ===================
  19. No warranty as to suitability of this software is given. It is made available
  20. on a strictly As-Is basis. The authors will endeavour to fix any problems
  21. which are notified to them as soon as reasonably possible.

  23. You are allowed to evaluate VPOP3 for 30 days before purchase. The normal
  24. evaluation only allows the use of up to 5 mailboxes (users), however you
  25. can obtain larger evaluation licences by emailing evaluate@pscs.co.uk
  26.  
  27. The purchase prices for various levels of licence are available by pressing
  28. the 'How To Buy' button on the properties page, or searching for
  29. 'Purchasing VPOP3' in the help file.

  31. Upgrading
  32. ==========
  33. If you are upgrading from a previous version of VPOP3, please ensure that
  34. _ALL_ message queues (both incoming and outgoing) are be flushed before
  35. installing the new version.

  37. To check if the queues are empty, use the VPOP3 status window. Using the 'User'
  38. display in 'Properties' will show you which users have how many messages in
  39. their incoming mailboxes.

  41. Finally, before installing the new version, make sure that VPOP3 is not
  42. currently running.

  44. Installation
  45. =============
  46.  
  47. VPOP3 now comes with an automated install/uninstall program, so just run
  48. SETUP.EXE
  49.  
  50. If you want to extract individual files, you should note that SETUP.EXE is
  51. ZIP compatible, so WinZip will be able to read it.

  53. Quick Introduction
  54. ===================
  55. When you run VPOP3 you should see a small red British Postbox appear next to
  56. the clock on the bottom of your screen. If you right-click on this postbox
  57. you will get a menu.
  58.  
  59. Choose "Properties..." from this menu, and you will first of all be asked
  60. to 'login'. This is a security feature so that only administrators can
  61. reconfigure VPOP3. The initial username and password are 'postmaster' and
  62. 'admin' respectively. You can change these later if you want.

  64. I advise you read the help file before starting if you're not sure what to
  65. do. The help file has been arranged so that it will teach you the basic
  66. features first so you can get started quickly.
