1. The program has had to be modified once again to accommodate further changes in procedures for calculating Class 1 National Insurance contributions for employees. Employees will pay primary contributions on earnings above the new Earnings Threshold which now becomes the same Threshold for BOTH employees and employers.
There is a resulting simplification in the reporting requirements for NICs since the 1c data column (NIPAY3) of 2000/2001 is no longer required (now zero by definition}; this column is now entitled "Not in use". The previous 1d, 1e, 1f, etc. columns now become 1c, 1d, 1e, etc. This has the advantage that the EE files from 2000/2001 CAN be used for 2001/2001 (with their period data deleted). In which case, the amended column headers can be copied from the 2001/2001 EE0.BWB template file.
2. The National Insurance Rates and Bands have been revised, following the December 2000 DSS publications, for the PAYE year starting 6 April 2001.
3. The P14 Generator utility file has had to be redesigned to produce the amended National Insurance 'end of year' earnings and contributions data. This has resulted in a revised layout of the draft P14 form to report the totals of the seven columns of NI data from the Employee's Data File. It also reports the YTD totals of WFTC/DPTC and any SLR to the draft P14 form and the P35 schedule. An additional menu option is now provided to print P14s and P60s on the 'portrait' IR forms (Lasersheets 1,2 and 3). The draft forms should first be printed and checked.
4. The EMPLOYEES DATA TABLE (EDT) now has two extra columns: the Income Tax deducted and the employee's NI deducted (NI EE). Thus, the EDT now contains virtually all the data that is on the employees' pay-slips.
