  6. Clip Edit.  You should read CLIPEDIT.LIC before installing
  7. or using Clip Edit.

  18. 1) Clip Edit hardware/software requirements
  19.  
  20. Clip Edit runs on OS/2 under Presentation Manager.
  21. OS/2 Version 1.2 or later is required, although 1.3
  22. is recommended. Clip Edit should run under OS/2 2.0, but
  23. we have not tested it yet against the early 2.0 code.

  25. If you have enough memory to run OS/2, you have enough
  26. to run Clip Edit

  47. 3) A description of what Clip Edit can do
  48.  
  49. The following text is a small excerpt from Clip Edit's
  50. on-line help.  The best way to find out what Clip Edit
  51. can do for you is to try it, and browse through the help.

  54.  Clip Edit lets you control the clipboard
  55.  like no other program does. Need to get
  56.  a text file into the clipboard so you can
  57.  paste it into a Lotus 123/G
  58.  spreadsheet?  Try Load File into
  59.  Clipboard.
  60.  
  61.  Want to save a bitmap image to a file
  62.  of a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet? Try
  63.  Save Selected Format As.
  64.  
  65.  How about printing the clipboard? Clip
  66.  Edit lets you Print the selected format to
  67.  your default printer.

  69.  Here's a real life example of what Clip
  70.  Edit can do:
  71.  
  72.  Let's say you are using Microsoft Excel
  73.  and Microsoft Word (OS/2 versions).
  74.  Your spreadsheet has some data that
  75.  you want to insert into your document
  76.  via the clipboard. If you copy the Excel
  77.  data and paste it into Word, Word
  78.  decides to paste the metafile format,
  79.  so you get a picture of the area of the
  80.  spreadsheet. That's is great if you want
  81.  the metafile.  But what if you're printer
  82.  doesn't print metafiles? Or what if you
  83.  wanted the text from the spreadsheet
  84.  instead of the picture?
  85.  
  86.  That's where Clip Edit comes in.  Just
  87.  select the format you want to keep, and
  88.  use the Clear Others option. Try pasting
  89.  into Word now, and you'll see that Word
  90.  gladly accepts the text or the bitmap.

  92.  Even better, try doing a Clear Others on
  93.  the private type Rich Text Format, and
  94.  paste it into Word.  You'll see that you
  95.  get the text and the column formatting.
  96.  So you've just now given Microsoft
  97.  Excel and Microsoft Word a synergism
  98.  that not even Microsoft had allowed you.
  99.  (if that's not enough to motivate you to
  100.  sending in your $20, we don't know
  101.  what is).

  103.  There are many more examples like this
  104.  in the world of OS/2 applications and
  105.  tools. If you have one that is especially
  106.  good, let us know.

  108.  A less obvious benefit is that since Clip
  109.  Edit can read and write both the old
  110.  (PM 1.1) and new (PM 1.2+) bitmap
  111.  formats, you should be able to solve
  112.  any compatibility problems related to
  113.  this format change.  For example, let's
  114.  say you have a new (PM 1.2+) bitmap
  115.  that you want to use with IBM's Image
  116.  Support program, which, the last time
  117.  we saw it, only reads the old format.
  118.  You can either do a Load file into
  119.  clipboard and then paste it into Image
  120.  Support, or you can Load it and then
  121.  Save it in the PM 1.2+ format. The latter
  122.  turns Clip Edit into a bitmap converter!

  126. 4) Installation instructions
  127.  
  128. Clip Edit is easy to install.  There are only two files needed:
  129.  
  130.  CLIPEDIT.EXE is the executable file. It can be started like
  131.  most other OS/2 .EXE files.  You can run it from an OS/2 command
  132.  line if CLIPEDIT.EXE is in your path or the current directory.
  133.  The best option is probably to put it in an OS/2 group.  If you
  134.  don't know how to do this, there are "cookbook" instructions
  135.  for a complete installation below.

  137.  CLIPEDIT.HLP is the file containing help for Clip Edit.  This file
  138.  needs to be in either the current directory, or a directory
  139.  that is specified in your HELP environment variable (HELP path).

  142. "Cookbook" installation instructions
  143.  
  144. 1) Unpack CLIPEDIT.ZIP using PKUNZIP.  This will yield 4
  145. files, CLIPEDIT.EXE, CLIPEDIT.HLP, CLIPEDIT.LIC, and
  146. CLIPREAD.ME (this file).  Since you are reading this, you
  147. have probably already accomplished this step.

  149. 2) Move the 4 files to the directory where you want to keep
  150. Clip Edit.
  151.  
  152. 3) Optionally, move or copy the CLIPEDIT.HLP file to a directory
  153. that is in your HELP path, like C:\OS2\HELP.
  154.  
  155. 4) Select the group that you want to put Clip Edit in, like
  156. GROUP - MAIN.  Use the Program pull down, and select NEW.  This
  157. will bring up a dialog box. In the Program Title entry field, type
  158. "Clipboard Editor" (no quotes).  In the Path and File name
  159. entry field, type the path name followed by the file name, for
  160. example "D:\CLIPEDIT\CLIPEDIT.EXE" (no quotes).  No parameters
  161. are necessary, so just skip the Parameters entry field. If you
  162. placed CLIPEDIT.HLP in your HELP path, you can skip the Working
  163. Directory field or put in any path that you want. If you didn't,
  164. enter the path where CLIPEDIT.HLP is, so that you get the on-line
  165. help. In the Program type pull down, use the pull down to select
  166. Presentation Manager. The Clip Edit program should appear at
  167. the bottom of the Group. The Clip Edit icon will also appear
  168. if you have the View pull down option set to Icon.

  170. 5) To execute Clip Edit, double click on the Clip Edit icon.
