Thank you for trying the UniMaint evaluation application! We
hope you like what you see!
This evaluation version of UniMaint 5.1 (UniSafe) features the
main UniMaint display and will perform all non-destructive
actions included in the full product. Thus, for example, it will
go through the dialogs and processes of uninstalling an
application, but will not actually uninstall the application.
Likewise, it will allow you to 'edit' INI files, but will not
write the changes to the hard drive. Online help is included to
guide you through the various features and functions of UniMaint.
If you have any problems with the installation or other use of
the UniMaint evaluation version, please use the web site,
www.filestar.com, for resolution and support.

DEMO INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. If you are installing from an Internet download, run the
self-extracting zip file UM51DEMO.EXE. When completed you should
have the files listed above in the current directory.
2. Open an OS/2 window in the directory where the install files
are located.
3. You may start the install program with or without the
compressed file as a parameter. The U5199280.001 file is the
compressed file that contains all other files and installation
definitions.
(a) If you start the installation program with a command of
'SHSINST U5199280.001' you will bypass the Source Directory
dialog.
(b) If you start with 'SHSINST' the Source Directory dialog
will appear. Press the browse button and double click the
U5199280.001 file. This will complete the source path in the
dialog.
3. Press the 'License' button (required to enable the Install
button) and read the License. When finished with reading the
licence, you may read the README.1ST file by pressing the
'Readme' button.
4. Press the 'Install' button to start the installation. A
Target Directory dialog will appear. The Target Directory dialog
entry field should be displaying a directory UNIMAINT on the boot
drive. You may change the drive/directory manually or use the
Browse button and select the target directory. It will be created
during install if it does not exist. Press Ok to accept the
target directory as entered and the extraction of files will
begin.
5. You will be queried during the installation whether to let
InstallStar modify the config.sys file or not. If you let
InstallStar do it, it will add the directory to the config.sys
libpath, path and help path statements. If you decline, you may
do this later yourself with a text editor. It is recommended that
you let InstallStar do the changes. Once modified, a reboot is
necessary for the changes to take effect. However, most UniMaint
functions should work without a reboot and you can simply wait
until the next normal reboot. If some UniMaint function does not
work as expected, you should reboot the computer before further
use of the program.
6. Normal installation creates a Desktop folder named UniDemo.
The UniDemo folder contains 6 additional folders plus the
executable UniSafe. UniSafe is a safe, harmless UniMaint which
has all the functions of UniMaint but cannot write to the INI
files.
7. InstallStar online help is available by pressing the F1 key or
the 'Help' pushbutton.

UNIMAINT PRIVATE INI FILE
You may force UniMaint or UniSafe to use a private UNIMAINT.INI
file instead of the OS2.INI file for storage of program
parameters. To do so, copy the UNIMAINT.BKI file in the UNIMAINT
directory to UNIMAINT.INI. This will be an empty INI file. If
UniMaint is run with this empty file, all UniMaint settings and
path data will be set to default parameters. To re-commence using
the OS2.INI file for storage, delete the UNIMAINT.INI file.
_________________________________________________________________
UNINSTALLING THE UNIMAINT EVALUATION VERSION
The installation program has an Uninstall option but it is
non-functional in this version. To uninstall the evaluation
version, delete the UniMaint (or whatever the directory is named)
directory. Then delete the UniDemo desktop folder. If you had the
install program add the UniMaint directory to the config.sys
file, remove the path from the LIBPATH, PATH and HELP statements.
There will be one or two Application entries (Uni Maintenance
and possibly UniWatch) left in your OS2.INI file that you can
only remove with an INI editor unless you have used a private
INI file.

INFOZIP UTILITIES
InfoZIP has graciously allowed the inclusion of ZIP.EXE and
UNZIP.EXE with the UniMaint product. These programs are provided
at no cost to the user as a service. It is very likely that you
already have these fine native OS/2 archiving utilities.
InfoZIP products are widely available on the internet. For a list
of InfoZIP sources, read the WHERE file. You will also find a
link to the latest versions on www.filestar.com. The ZIP.DOC and
UNZIP.DOC files are included to provide documentation for the
InfoZIP products.
Unimaint makes extensive use of the Zip and Unzip programs. It is
recommended that you add the path to these programs to the
config.sys path statement so that one copy of the files are
available to all programs that use them.
