* SystemMonitor v2.0 *
**********************************
Your old configuration won't be lost, all new features are
configured in such a way as to use no more space than in the previous
version, so you won't see a difference.
Don't forget to 'play around' to try the new features.
Version 2.0
*) If you wish, SysMon can now turn on NUMLOCK at startup.
*) Now swap-monitoring works if SWAPPER.DAT resides in
the root directory (which may improve the performance
of your system).
*) The CPU usage can now be displayed in four ways :
-) only the percentage in plain text
-) triangle-indicator
NEW: -) Time function (like IBM's Pulse)
NEW: -) Filled time function
*) SysMon is shrinkable: it uses only the space needed to
display the items you choose - not the full width of the screen.
(of course this is optional)
*) SysMon 'remembers' its old position, so you can place
the bar anywhere you like (eg.: top of the screen), and the
next time you start SysMon, it will appear in exactly the
same place.
*) There are three ways to perform a shutdown :
-) as usual
-) reboot this OS/2 (if you have more OS on your system
this option overrides BOOTMANAGER)
-) reboot drive ... (like the above option, but here you
can choose a bootable drive)
*) If you like, you can replace the system Window List by
SysMon's own Task List - so that if you press the left and right
mouse button together, our Task List will pop up.
(But pressing Ctrl+Esc brings up the 'old' switchlist)
Improvements of the tasklist:
-) complete New Look (more compact)
-) Multi-File selection
-) Minimizing an application is now possible
-) Information about a task is now displayed only if you
are interested in it
-) Sort Option : items in tasklist can be sorted by
Name or by PID
-) Filter Option : only visible or only jumpable items can
be displayed
-) If you configure it like that, the tasklist remains opened
after all actions but 'SwitchTo'
(unlike the system Window List, which disappears after
any action or after losing the focus)
-) In most cases, you don't have to tell the Task List to
'Refresh'; it checks if any programs have been opened
or closed and updates itself accordingly.
*) A real OS/2 hypertext help facility is available - SysMon.INF.
Either type 'view sysmon' in a command prompt, select 'Help' from
the popup-menu, or double-click on the SysMon.INF object.
*) The DRIVES DIALOG has been optimized for speed .
*) All configuration actions are now in a Settings Notebook.
*) You can choose whether you want short text descriptions in the bar
(e.g. VMem,Up,..) or long ones (e.g. Virtual Mem,UpTime,..)
*) An additional font, System VIO, is now available.
*) For users of battery powered machines: now there is a feature
reporting the battery status.
*) Documentation now also in German language.
Version 1.0
*) Systems with no MMOS2 installed are also supported.
There is a MUSIC.DLL including everything needed for the
sound features of SysMon, but it only works if you have MMOS2 installed.
If you have no sound support, or don't need sound you can delete
this library. If you don't want the DLL to be loaded (and thus save
memory), but don't want to delete it, SysMon accepts '-quiet' as
a command-line argument and won't load the DLL .
SysMon tries to check if MMOS2 is installed. If you still
get an error like MDM.DLL not found, please contact the
authors, and add the -quiet option (easiest way : install.cmd)
I deleted my LINUX-Partition to install Warp with no MMOS2 :-(
*) Tasks (and folders) can be terminated properly.
In case of danger there is a dialog which lets you decide
if you really want to quit this application.
WPS can't be killed.
*) CPU load can be displayed graphically and/or as plain text
*) Date and Time are now separately configurable
*) Date and Time are now displayed in the format, and with the
separator character with which OS/2 is configured
*) New Feature: the average CPU usage since SysMon was started
*) In the unregistered version, the Register.wav will NOT be
played quarter-hourly as in version 1.0, but you can choose how
often in the options dialog. So disabling the chime is now possible
in two ways :
-) choose NONE in options dialog
-) use the command line option -quiet
(so MUSIC.DLL won't be loaded): sysmon -quiet
*) Fixed a small bug where a button didn't pop up after the
associated dialog was closed.
Sorry, the announced improvements are not yet implemented because of
unexpected problems. We hope to implement and test as many as possible
for the next version.
