Four years ago I began a project that has become Performance PLUS. The initial intent was to create a book that clearly described how to tune OS/2. The software was included to simplify implementing the tips and procedures described in the book.
In this latest V3 release the software can now stand on its own! Yes, the book is still a major part of Performance PLUS V3 - but the utilities equally share the spotlight. There is a definite sequence to the use of the tuning utilities of Performance PLUS.
First, the SimpleCT (Simple Count) utility should be used to measure the performance of your system. It should be run before and after each tuning effort.
Second the Optimize utility will let you tune the performance parameters of Config.Sys.
(This demo copy doesn't update the Congif.Sys - for that, you'll have to buy the product).
After running SimpleCT again, the STATS (Statistics) utility will display performance changes, both improvements and decreases.
The SeeSwap utility can be used to monitor changes in your Swapper file.
The DOS BlackBox is a utility to help optimize DOS and Windows program operation.
The other utilities simplify your use of OS/2.
OS2BOOT helps you create a single OS/2 Boot diskette or emergency boot partition.
ViewBMP is a simple way to view OS/2 format bitmaps.
DeskSave will save an image of your OS/2 WorkPlace Shell Desktop - so that you can easily restore the Desktop if lost because of a power or system failure.
DiskMap displays disk space usage.
AutoSet helps you automate a file backup scheme; automate desktop backup, and set HPFS LazyWrite off.
