***** How to Install Simply Secure *****
****************************************************************
You will need to self extract the ssdemo.exe file to a diskette
drive. The demo will only install from a diskette drive.
Type ssdemo x:\ -d to perform the extract. This will create an
installation diskette. From the installation diskette
run the install program "a:install". ** See the release notes below **
Steps:
1.) Get a blank formatted diskette and insert into a diskette drive
2.) Type "ssdemo x:\ -d" (x = diskette drive letter)
3.) Type "x:Install" to install Simply Secure.

- A SIMPLE APPROACH TO USING Simply Secure:
1.) Run the Easy Setup from the Simply Secure main screen.
2.) Identify those Icons you want the DO NOT want to secure by selecting
the Icon and clicking "Allow Unsecured".
3.) Save this configuration, by clicking "Secure These", don't go to UNSECURED
mode yet.
4.) Customize your LaunchPad, Remove those items you DO NOT
want secured users to have access to or lock the LaunchPad drawers.
A good candidate is the Drives Icon. Don't worry about the
command prompts these are protected in Secured Mode.
5.) Now go to SECURED Mode.
6.) Check out the screen for looks, if you are happy with it, your done. If
not go back to UNSECURED Mode and move things around to your liking
and then go back to SECURED Mode.
7.) Please give us feed back.

***** WARP & WARP Full Pack (Potential Conflicts) *****
****************************************************************
- Simply Secure should be the last product installed in your system
at ALL times. This will ensure that Simply Secure has the "last say" in
what happens to icons on your desktop. Products such as LAN Services,
CCmail, and some others make changes to the OS/2 WorkPlace Shell.
The WorkPlace Shell processing says the last application to be installed
is the last one to get control. Since nothing will happen until the last
application gets control, it is imperative that Simply Secure be the last one.
To ensure this rerun the install and select "Remove" to remove
Simply Secure from the system and shutdown. Then rerun the install
and select "Install". This will ensure that Simply Secure is the last application
installed.

***** WARP & WARP Full Pack (Known Issues) *****
****************************************************************
- DO NOT USE the options that allows you to restart your system from
within Simply Secure when you have WARP Connect installed.
The result of allowing Simply Secure to Restart the WPS will be the
loss of the Share option on your Icons. However this is corrected
when you do a complete shutdown.
- After installation the WorkPlace Shell is reset without shutting
down the system. We have only seen the problem with WARP
Connect, ICONS loose their Share Option, we have seen NO other problems.
The WorkPlace Shell is re-initializing and will be back in a minute.
Please be patient.
- When in Unsecured Mode it will appear that you are able to add items to
the LanuchPad. In fact you are not able to. When you drop the icon on the
LaunchPad nothing will happen.
- When in Unsecured Mode the Master Index located in the Information
folder will still show the option of "Create another". Although
the option is there it will not work.

***** Product Description *****
****************************************************************
Simply Secure from Atlantic Research Group is a
multithreaded, SOM/WPS compliant application that provides
robust and complete security administration of Desktop objects,
including the LaunchPad. The basic architecture of Simply Secure
provides for two modes of system operation; Secured and Unsecured.
It's ease of use and intuitive interface provides a simple
means of configuring these two modes. The product comes with
an Easy Configuration option which allows the Administrator
or Parent, to configure these modes in just a few simple steps.
When in Secured mode, global restrictions exist for context menus,
drag & drop operations, program execution, LaunchPad functions,
and file access. Simply Secure does not limit the administrator
to these two modes. Simply Secure provides for password
protection of WPS objects, and the ability to set attributes
for any WPS object. This gives the administrator the ability
to selectively secure WPS objects, and maintain unrestricted
access to the rest of the system. Additionally the Administrator
can selectively secure WPS Objects with passwords, as well as,
put the system in Secured mode. With all of this flexible
security, configuring Simply Secure for your environment
is a "simple task." Unsecured mode is "vanilla" WPS, unless the
administrator has configured password protection for an object.
On a more technical note, Simply Secures interfaces support
direct manipulation employing Presentation Manager Containers,
Context Sensitive menus, Notebooks and a complete on-line
Help System. Simply Secure replaces many WorkPlace Shell classes
including, but not limited to; WPFolder, WPDesktop,
WPShredder and WPLaunchPad and several of the class methods
within the classes. Simply Secure uses drag & drop enabled
Presentation Manager Containers, and WPS objects for all security
configurations. These dialogs are all multithreaded from the
WorkPlace Shell to give the user a "what you see is what you get"
environment when configuring the Secured mode. Simply Secure
adds to ALL WPS objects two new settings pages enabling the
WPS object to be password protected, or the styles of the object
modified. Simply secure maintains a record of the original
style state of all altered objects. This allows Simply Secure to
restore these objects to their original state at administrator
request or if Simply Secure is ever de-installed. The Drawer page,
added to all instances of the LaunchPad, allows the administrator
to "lock" the LaunchPad drawers and require a password to open them.
Simply Secure maintains all of its information in the os2.ini file.
This provides for an automatic archive of the Simply Secure
environment when an OS/2 system archive is taken.
