  25.      The demo is a fully functional version of Simply Secure.  The demo also
  26. includes a dialog that will appear every minute ONLY when the demo 
  27. HAS EXPIRED.  This is your reminder to place the order.  Please enjoy and
  28. provide any feedback you would like, money is always the preferred feedback,
  29. but we would also welcome your comments.

  32. *****    How to Install  Simply Secure                                              *****

  35.      You will need to self extract the ssdemo.exe file to a diskette
  36. drive.  The demo will only install from a diskette drive.  
  37. Type ssdemo x:\ -d to perform the extract.  This will create an 
  38. installation diskette.  From the installation diskette
  39. run the install program "a:install". ** See the release notes below **
  40.  
  41. Steps:
  42.           1.) Get a blank formatted diskette and insert into a diskette drive
  43.           2.) Type "ssdemo x:\ -d" (x = diskette drive letter)
  44.           3.) Type "x:Install" to install Simply Secure.

  51. -  A SIMPLE APPROACH TO USING Simply Secure:
  52.      
  53.   1.) Run the Easy Setup from the Simply Secure main screen. 
  54.   2.) Identify those Icons you want the DO NOT want to secure by selecting
  55.        the Icon and clicking "Allow Unsecured".
  56.   3.) Save this configuration, by clicking "Secure These", don't go to UNSECURED
  57.        mode yet.
  58.   4.) Customize your LaunchPad, Remove those items you DO NOT 
  59.        want secured users to have access to or lock the LaunchPad drawers.  
  60.        A good candidate is the Drives Icon.  Don't worry about the
  61.        command prompts these are protected in Secured Mode.
  62.   5.) Now go to SECURED Mode.
  63.   6.) Check out the screen for looks, if you are happy with it, your done. If 
  64.        not go back to UNSECURED Mode and move things around to your liking
  65.        and then go back to SECURED Mode.

  73.      -  Simply Secure should be the last product installed in your system 
  74.         at ALL times.  This will ensure that Simply Secure has the "last say" in 
  75.         what happens to icons on your desktop.  Products such as LAN Services,
  76.         CCmail, and some others make changes to the OS/2 WorkPlace Shell.
  77.         The WorkPlace Shell processing says the last application to be installed
  78.         is the last one to get control.  Since nothing will happen until the last
  79.         application gets control, it is imperative that Simply Secure be the last one.
  80.         To ensure this rerun the install and select "Remove" to remove
  81.         Simply Secure from the system and shutdown.  Then rerun the install 
  82.         and select "Install".  This will ensure that Simply Secure is the last application
  83.         installed.

  88.      - DO NOT USE the options that allows you to restart your system from 
  89.        within Simply Secure when you have WARP Connect installed.  
  90.        The result of allowing Simply Secure to Restart the WPS will be the
  91.        loss of the Share option on your Icons.  However this is corrected
  92.        when you do a complete shutdown. 
  93.  
  94.      - After installation the WorkPlace Shell is reset without shutting
  95.        down the system.  We have only seen the problem with WARP
  96.        Connect, ICONS loose their Share Option, we have seen NO other problems. 
  97.        The WorkPlace Shell is re-initializing and will be back in a minute.  
  98.        Please be patient.

  100.      - When in Unsecured Mode it will appear that you are able to add items to
  101.         the LanuchPad.  In fact you are not able to.  When you drop the icon on the
  102.         LaunchPad nothing will happen.

  104.      - When in Unsecured Mode the Master Index located in the Information
  105.         folder will still show the option of "Create another".  Although
  106.         the option is there it will not work.

  112.       Simply Secure from Atlantic Research Group is a 
  113.       multithreaded, SOM/WPS compliant application that provides
  114.       robust and complete security administration of Desktop objects,
  115.       including the LaunchPad.  The basic architecture of Simply Secure 
  116.       provides for two modes of system operation; Secured and Unsecured.
  117.       It's ease of use and intuitive interface provides a simple 
  118.       means of configuring these two modes.  The product comes with
  119.       an Easy Configuration option which allows the Administrator
  120.       or Parent, to configure these modes in just a few simple steps.
  121.       When in Secured mode, global restrictions exist for context menus,
  122.       drag & drop operations, program execution, LaunchPad functions, 
  123.       and file access. Simply Secure does not limit the administrator
  124.       to these two modes.  Simply Secure provides for password 
  125.       protection of WPS objects, and the ability to set attributes 
  126.       for any WPS object.  This gives the administrator the ability 
  127.       to selectively secure WPS objects, and maintain unrestricted 
  128.       access to the rest of the system.  Additionally the Administrator
  129.       can selectively secure WPS Objects with passwords, as well as,
  130.       put the system in Secured mode.  With all of this flexible 
  131.       security, configuring Simply Secure for your environment 
  132.       is a "simple task."  Unsecured mode is "vanilla" WPS, unless the 
  133.       administrator has configured password protection for an object.
  134.                   
  135.       On a more technical note, Simply Secures interfaces support
  136.       direct manipulation employing Presentation Manager Containers,
  137.       Context Sensitive menus, Notebooks and a complete on-line 
  138.       Help System.  Simply Secure replaces many WorkPlace Shell classes 
  139.       including, but not limited to; WPFolder, WPDesktop,
  140.       WPShredder and WPLaunchPad and several of the class methods
  141.       within the classes.  Simply Secure uses drag & drop enabled
  142.       Presentation Manager Containers, and WPS objects for all security 
  143.       configurations.  These dialogs are all multithreaded from the
  144.       WorkPlace Shell to give the user a "what you see is what you get"
  145.       environment when configuring the Secured mode.  Simply Secure
  146.       adds to ALL WPS objects two new settings pages enabling the
  147.       WPS object to be password protected, or the styles of the object
  148.       modified. Simply secure maintains a record of the original
  149.       style state of all altered objects.  This allows Simply Secure to 
  150.       restore these objects to their original state at administrator
  151.       request or if Simply Secure is ever de-installed. The Drawer page,
  152.       added to all instances of the LaunchPad, allows the administrator
  153.       to "lock" the LaunchPad drawers and require a password to open them.  
  154.       Simply Secure maintains all of its information in the os2.ini file.
  155.       This provides for an automatic archive of the Simply Secure 
  156.       environment when an OS/2 system archive is taken.
