  1. Installation Instructions for Conversion Pro For OS/2 version 1.5
  2. (8/8/96 Shareware version 1.5 for OS/2 Warp) BUILD 1.503
  3.  
  4. DESCRIPTION: Conversion Pro for OS/2 is a 32-bit presentation manager
  5. application which enables the user to perform over 1800 'on-the-fly'
  6. scientific and engineering unit conversions.  The application also includes
  7. a button calculator and a temperature conversion utility which can convert
  8. temperature data in either fahrenheit, centigrade (sometimes referred as
  9. Celsius) or Kelvin.
  10.  
  11. Requirements:
  12.  
  13. NEEDS: PC running IBM OS/2 3.X (WARP) operating system or higher.
  14.     An UnZIPing Program
  15.     1 Mb disk storage space
  16.     4 Mb RAM
  17.     VROBJ.DLL (run time library). See Help from install.exe to see
  18.     where to get this file.

  22. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
  23.  
  24. A.  The Easy Way
  25.  
  26. 1. If Conversion Pro comes to you zipped, unzip contents of the zip file
  27.    into a empty desktop folder.
  28. 2. Run the install program, specifying the drive and directory to which
  29.    you want to install (if different from the default). Install help is
  30.    available from the install program.
  31.  
  32. B.  Or, do it the hard way...
  33.  
  34. 1. Create a directory on a hard disk drive such as 'CONPRO15'
  35.  
  36. 2. Copy the following files from the distribution disk to the newly
  37.    created directory:
  38.  
  39.          cpro1_5.exe     -Conversion Pro for OS/2 executable
  40.     calcul.exe    -Calculator standalone executable
  41.          cpro1_5.ico    -Application icon
  42.     calcul.ico    -Application icon
  43.     cpset.ini        -settings file
  44.          ****.dat       -21 ****.dat data files
  45.          cpro1_5.hlp     -Application help file
  46.          cpro1_5.inf     -Application Guide in INF book format
  47.          readme.txt     -Information file (the one you are now reading)
  48.          cporder.txt      -Information for purchasing Conversion Pro.

  50. 3. Create desktop objects for the executables and the INF using
  51. templates. Or, just create a shadow of these objects if you prefer.
  52.  
  53. 4. If you haven't already got one, acquire a copy of the file vrobj.dll with
  54. a date no earlier than 6/6/95 (Patch level "C" from Watcom).  This file,
  55. which is a run-time library, needs to be copied to any directory in your
  56. OS/2 LIBPATH such as X:\OS2\DLL or X:\OS2\APPS\DLL
  57. where X: is the drive letter where the OS/2 operating system files reside.
  58. NOTE: This step must be accomplished or the application will not run.
  59. If you are uncertain what directories are included in the LIBPATH, the
  60. LIBPATH is defined in the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file.

  62. 5.  Online help is available within Conversion Pro under the help menu, or by
  63. clicking on the cpro1_5.INF file.  This will allow viewing the contents of the
  64. help file in on-line book format.

  66. CHANGES AND BUG FIXES

  68. Beta 0.1, September 15, 1995. Ported Conversion Pro over from previously
  69.     written Windows 3.1 version.
  70.  
  71. Beta 0.2, September 20, 1995. Added calculator and temperature converter dialog.
  72.  
  73. Beta 0.3, October 2, 1995. Fixed problem in temperature dialog not handling
  74.     negative temperatures correctly.  Stole some icons.

  76. Beta 0.4, October 16, 1995. Minor tuning.   Added product information dialog,
  77.     and a dialog on startup while data loads.  Edited conversion list for
  78.     umpteenth time.

  80. Beta 0.5 November 1, 1995.  Decided to split the data file
  81.     into two files, one with conversion names and one with conversion
  82.     factors.

  84. Version 1: November 5, 1995 release. Edited several conversions.
  85.     Added NEGC Software     logo panel with icon tied to product
  86.     information dialog.
  87.  
  88. Version 1.1 March 3, 1996.  Removed startup dialog. Removed 'About' choice
  89.     from menu bar. Redesigned 'Product Information' dialog. "Product Info"
  90.     under Help menu tied to *.hlp file. Added on-line context sensitive
  91.     help under the menu system and through INF book format.
  92.     Changed text attributes. Added new splashscreen.

  94. Version 1.2, December 27, 1996.  Split the two data files into 20 modular
  95.     conversion files to speed up loading.  A small miscellaneous file
  96.     loads on start-up. Added the 20 files to a pull-down menu called
  97.     Units categories.
  98.  
  99. Version 1.3, March 4, 1996.  Added right mouse-click pop-up menu over
  100.     conversion list box to change data sets. Removed company logo
  101.     from main window.
  102.  
  103. Version 1.4, July, 1996.  Added File menu, removed temperature and
  104.     calculator from menu bar to the file menu.  Added Exit choice under
  105.     File menu. Added Numeric format to the menu bar. Changed color
  106.     of on-the-fly conversion frame title. Added custom user data file so
  107.     there are now 21 data files.

  109. Version 1.5 August 3, 1996 (Build 1.501).  Added settings dialog for user     preferences such as default startup file. Added button bar. The
  110.     21 unit types are grouped under a button bar the pull-down/pop-up
  111.     menus. Fixed bug in button calculator not working right with the
  112.     <Enter> key.  Worked around bugs in the child windows (calculator
  113.     and temperature converter) which disabled the main window until
  114.     they were closed.  Added the option of calculator as a 
  115.     stand-alone program. Redid Product Information Dialog which is now
  116.     accessed under Help menu.  Settings dialog also accessed under Help.
  117.     Added feature push buttons.  On-the-fly converter Frame title now
  118.     changes to reflect the data set loaded. New help file and on-line guide.
  119.     Added installation program which also creates Desktop objects in a
  120.     folder.  Updated icon set and interface. Corrected several buggy     conversions.

  122. Version 1.5 August 4, 1996 (Build 1.502).  Added color settings in response
  123.     to complaints about the cosmetic changes.  Users can change and save
  124.     colors of the data display fields.  Button bar can now hide the Main
  125.     window to reduce desktop clutter. Also changed modality of the child
  126.     windows. Fixed bug in changing numeric format from the menu bar that
  127.     reset the correct radio button but didn't automatically update the
  128.     format in the display field. Fixed bug in conversion list that didn't
  129.     auto-load the first conversion when changing datasets. Did minor speed     optimization.

  131. Version 1.5 August 8, 1996 (Build 1.503). Hopefully I've addressed all the
  132.     user comments on the previous two builds. This build splits the settings
  133.     into three pages- main, button bar, and colors. The major new feature 
  134.     is that the screen position of the button bar when it loads can be     specified from the Button Bar settings page. Also, the temperature
  135.     converter can now do negative temperatures without having to backspace.
  136.     (this was fixed way back when but broke again somewhere along the way). 
  137.     Finally, I squeezed out a little more speed through code optimization.
