PhoneBoy version 1.4 By Igor Divjak, August 1995 (Maintanence Release)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
README.DOC
PhoneBoy is a small address book and phone dialer for the OS/2 Program Manager.
It features a very small size, quick load up, ASCII data files, autodial,
and is not crippled in any way. No nag screens!
Although a very attractive PIM including an address book is available to
users of IBM Works (now included with OS/2 Warp), I found that it was the
only part of the Works package I was in fact, using. This did not seem to
justify the 10+ MB of hard drive space it was taking up, nor the 10+ seconds
of load time to look up one lousy phone number.
The solution seemed to be simple enough, download a shareware address book
and go wild. However, much to my chagrin, none of them suited my needs. I
*hate* nag screens and crippleware, so I decided to do the job right and
make my own address book.
Thus was PhoneBoy born!

Using PhoneBoy
Most of the operations I'll describe here should be familiar to experienced
users, and can be ascertained with a minimum of experimentation. I highly
recommend learning the keyboard equivalents to the buttons in PhoneBoy,
they only take a second to read and will help increase your productivity.
That actually goes for all graphical programs actually, many users never
seem to graduate from the mouse level of operation, and thus whine about
the virtues of a command line interface! :)
Keyboard equivalents for all buttons also exist, for extra-fast use:
ALT-A Add an entry (same as PLUS button)
ALT-D Delete an entry (same as MINUS button)
ALT-C Autodial (same as red PHONE button)
ALT-S Dial Setup (same as gray phone on Globe button)
ALT-V View entry (same as GLASSES button)
ALT-I Information (same as ? button)
ALT-X Exit or Cancel (same as X button)
ALT-N Entry Notes (same as Notepad button)
CTRL-Letter Confine list to names that begin with the letter. (same as pressing a letter button).
CTRL-1 View All (same as ALL button)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Dialer
The dialer will call the number in the "Phone 1" field. There is currently
no way to dial 2 numbers for one person without entering another record.
The first time you use the dialer, if you have not set up your modem, the
Dialer setup dialog will appear. Enter the numeral corresponding to the
comm port you modem is on. Usually this is port 1 or 2.
The dialer should work with any hayes compatible modem and does not send
any special strings at all.
Problems:
If you experience problems dialing, try the following:
From a comm program (such as ZOC or Hyperaccess) send your modem the following
commands:
at&f <enter>
at&w <enter>
Also, delete the phoneboy.ini file (in the same directory as PhoneBoy.ExE) and
set up the dialer again.
Comm programs under OS/2 usually don't 'lock' the comm port, but trying to use
the dialer while such a program is active will result in an error.

About PhoneBoy
PhoneBoy is not a large commercial application. It does not import DBase
files, export FoxPro macro's or any other such thing. It does not even
print. It does however, do its job well. Store addresses, phone numbers,
and let you quickly access that information.
