ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Extended help for Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Installation Dialog contains two groups:
1. The suggested target directory (C:\IMPOS) is shown within the group Target
and can be altered.
Attention: If you have already installed (a former version of) Impos/2 and
you choose the same target directory, before copying the new files all the
old files will be erased!
2. Within the group Scope of installation the radio button "all image formats,
w/o scanner or video support" is pre-selected. In this case all base
program objects and all image formats will be installed.
If you don't need any additional hardware support, start the installation
process by just clicking the OK button.
When you want to install scanner- and/or video adapter support, or only some of
the available image formats, mark the check box "selective install" and
activate the OK button to open the dialog Components.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Extended Help for Components ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The window Components shows three Groups with optional program parts. The
checkbox install within the group Image formats has been preselected. The
listbox to the right contains the names of all available image formats. They
are already selected and thus belong to the preselected scope of installation.
If you don't want to install all these image formats, deselect by clicking one
or more entries with the mouse.
It's easy to install the required driver for your scanner or for your video
overlay adapter:
1. First check the install option within the corresponding group and choose
the model of your scanner or the type of video adapter card in the listbox
nearby. Some devices require the same driver. If you select several
compatible devices, the driver will be installed only once. Please refer to
chapter The supported Hardware
2. When choosing hardware support, by checking update CONFIG.SYS you can
determine whether the CONFIG.SYS shall be automatically updated after
copying the drivers. If the selected device runs with the DOS-driver, it is
only checked whether the driver is specified. If this option is checked,
the CONFIG.SYS is tested by the installation procedure, otherwise it is
your responsibility to check or update the CONFIG.SYS.
3. To start installation, click the Install button.
Click the Previous button to return to the installation main window.
4. The progress of installion is indicated by a bar at the bottom of the
window. After copying all files, a new program object "Impos/2" will be
created on workplace shell. In addition image files are associated with
"Impos/2" (except for *.BMP and *.MET).
Note: If an error occurs during the installation, you will be notified by
a message box. Click the Help button for a further explanation of the
problem.
There will be a message after the successfull installation. Close the
message box and exit the installation program by clicking the End button.
5. If you have choosen hardware support during the installation, you might
have to restart the system.
That's all, installation is complete!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Invalid Path ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The specified path could not be found.
Remedial action:
o Please check the spelling of the target path: Take care of the length of the
directory name. Did you forget a '\' in front of a subdirectory name? Please
check for invalid characters!
Example:
D:\OS2APPS\IMPOS
or
D:\OS2APPS\IMPOS\
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Invalid Drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The specified drive is invalid.
Remedial action:
o Please check the spelling of the target path. The drive letter must be
specified in the path.
Example:
D:\OS2APPS\IMPOS
or
D:\OS2APPS\IMPOS\
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Insufficient Disk Space ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
There isn't enough available disk space on the specified drive.
Remedial action:
o Install Impos/2 on another drive. Close the error message and change the
target path in entry field Target. Restart the installation process.
or
o Delete obsolete files on the target drive. OS/2 allows you to delete the
files without closing the installation program. Close the pending message box
and click the Retry button. The available disk space will be checked again.
If there is enough space, the installation will be continued.
Tip: If you overwrite an existing version of Impos/2, you may ignore the
error message (-> Button Ignore), as the directory will be cleared before
copying the new files and thus providing space.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Path exists ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The specified path already exists
Note: If you ignore this message, all files in the target directory will be
deleted before the installation!
If you want to overwrite another version of Impos/2, you can ignore this
message (-> pushbutton Ignore). But please notice, that all other files (like
images) in the target directory will be deleted.
Remedial action:
o Close the message with Cancel and choose another installation path.
o Backup the files in the target directory. You do not have to terminate the
installation program. OS/2 allowes you to open the Drive Folder and drag the
files you want to keep to another drive or directory. Go back to the
installation program and close the message with OK.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. UNPACK.EXE not found ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS/2 system tool UNPACK.EXE could not be found.
The Impos/2 program files are shipped in a compressed format. To uncompress the
files, the OS/2 tool UNPACK.EXE is required. It is part of the the standard
OS/2 installation and located in the subdirectory \OS2 on the boot drive of
your system.
Remedial action:
Close the message with OK and terminate the installation program with Cancel.
o Check the existence of UNPACK.EXE in directory \OS2 of your boot drive. If it
is not available, you should reinstall it from the OS/2 diskettes using
Selective Install from the System Folder.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. UNPACK.EXE not execuatable ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS/2 system tool UNPACK.EXE connot be started.
The Impos/2 program files are shipped in a compressed format. To uncompress the
files, the OS/2 tool UNPACK.EXE is required. It is part of the the standard

This driver, provided by the scanner manufacturer, is needed to operate the
scanner.
Remedial action.
o Note the name of the required DOS-driver und terminate the installation
program with End.
o Install the driver from the diskettes shipped with your scanner.
o Add the DOS driver entry to OS/2-CONFIG.SYS, if the scanner installation does
not do so.
o Restart the installation
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Editor not found ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS/2-editor E.EXE could not be found
You choosed to display the README file. The operation failed, because the
Editor could not be found. This message may occur after Impos/2 has been

Note: Even though the DOS driver for your scanner is installed, you should
select the device in the scanner section of the Impos/2 installation, because
there are additional files that have to be copied to support the scanner.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The OS/2 drivers SPIMSTK.SYS and MBLASTER.SYS shipped with Impos/2 require the
same parameters for DMA channel, IRQ and I/O addresse as their DOS equivalents.
The Impos/2 installation program uses the default parameters as suggested from
the hardware manufacturer of the device. To change the default settings, please
refer to the hardware manual.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Using the CPS video overlay adapter, there might be a restriction to max. 8 MB
of RAM, depending on the chipset of your PC. Please refer to the CPS hardware
