  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Overview of HW/Paint ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  3.  
  4. HW/Paint is a complete image editor with the ability to do screen captures. 
  5. HW/Paint was developed using HockWare's VisPro/REXX visual development 
  6. environment and the soon to be release Image Processing Object Pack. 
  7.

  9. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Tools ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  10.  
  11. A selected region can be manipulated by dragging the region while holding the 
  12. right mouse button.  The default operation is to move  the region, leaving 
  13. behind an area filled with the current background color.  You can also copy a 
  14. region by holding the Ctrl key before you begin dragging the mouse. 
  15.  
  16. HW/Paint has an abundance of tools for manipulating images and drawing shapes: 
  17.  
  18. Marque Selection 
  19.    Allows you to select rectangular regions. Press and hold the left mouse 
  20.    button at a corner of the region. Drag the mouse and release at the opposite 
  21.    corner of the region. 
  22.  
  23. Lasso Selection 
  24.    Allows you to draw an irregularly-shaped selection region. Press and hold 
  25.    the left mouse button at the start of the region. Drag the mouse and release 
  26.    when you have finished outlining the region. 
  27.  
  28. Pencil Tool 
  29.    Allows you to draw an irregularly-shaped line. Press and hold the left mouse 
  30.    button to begin drawing. Drag the mouse and release when you have finished 
  31.    drawing. The lines will be drawn using the current color, pattern, and line 
  32.    width.

  34. Paint Brush Tool 
  35.    Allows you to draw using a round-shaped brush pattern. Press and hold the 
  36.    left mouse button to begin drawing. Drag the mouse and release when you have 
  37.    finished drawing. The brush will paint using the current color.

  39. Eraser Tool 
  40.    Allows you to erase using a round-shaped brush pattern. Press and hold the 
  41.    left mouse button to begin erasing. Drag the mouse and release when you have 
  42.    finished erasing. The erased areas will be replaced with the current 
  43.    background color.

  45. Color Extraction Tool 
  46.    Allows you to extract the color of a pel. Press and hold the left mouse 
  47.    button to examine a pel's color. Drag the mouse and release when you have 
  48.    finished examining pels. The current color will be set to the color of the 
  49.    pel.  Also, the color selector in the Image Settings view will display the 
  50.    current color.

  52. Spray Paint Tool 
  53.    Allows you to paint using a dense spray pattern. Press and hold the left 
  54.    mouse button to begin painting. Drag the mouse and release when you have 
  55.    finished painting. The spray paint tool will paint using the current color.

  57. Text Tool 
  58.    Allows you type text by placing a flashing text cursor within your image. 
  59.    Click the left mouse button to position the text cursor. You may then begin 
  60.    typing text.

  62. Flood Fill Tool 
  63.    Allows you fill an area with the current color and fill pattern. Click the 
  64.    left mouse button to begin filling an area. Note: This tool uses IBM OS/2's 
  65.    GpiFloodFill function call.  This call has problems with some 
  66.    high-resolution device drivers.

  68. Line Drawing Tool 
  69.    Allows you to draw a straight line. Press and hold the left mouse button at 
  70.    the beginning of the line. Drag the mouse and release at the opposite end of 
  71.    the line. The line will be drawn using the current line width, line type and 
  72.    color. The end points will have arrows if a specific line end is currently 
  73.    selected.

  75. Rectangle Drawing Tool 
  76.    Allows you to draw rectangles. Press and hold the left mouse button at a 
  77.    corner of the rectangle. Drag the mouse and release at the opposite corner 
  78.    of the rectangle. The rectangle will be drawn using the current color and 
  79.    fill pattern.

  81. Rounded-Rectangle Drawing Tool 
  82.    Allows you to draw rectangles with curved corners. Press and hold the left 
  83.    mouse button at a corner of the rectangle. Drag the mouse and release at the 
  84.    opposite corner of the rectangle. The rectangle will be drawn using the 
  85.    current color and fill pattern.

  87. Diamond Drawing Tool 
  88.    Allows you to draw diamonds. Press and hold the left mouse button at a 
  89.    corner of the diamond. Drag the mouse and release at the opposite corner of 
  90.    the diamond. The diamond will be drawn using the current color and fill 
  91.    pattern.

  93. Ellipse Drawing Tool 
  94.    Allows you to draw ellipses and circles. Press and hold the left mouse 
  95.    button at the center of the ellipse. Drag the mouse and release at a corner 
  96.    of the ellipse. The ellipse will be drawn using the current color and fill 
  97.    pattern.

  102. The image menu contains actions that let you manipulate the entire image. 
  103.  
  104. Open settings 
  105.    The settings view allows you to select the size, color, pattern and other 
  106.    attributes for an image.

  108. Open 
  109.    Open an OS/2 BMP image.

  111. Open PCX 
  112.    Open a PC Paintbrush PCX image 
  113.  
  114. Save 
  115.    Save the image to an OS/2 BMP file 
  116.  
  117. Save as 
  118.    Select a name and then save the image as an OS/2 bitmap.

  120. Compress when saving 
  121.    Save using the OS/2 compressed format.

  123. Print 
  124.    Print the image to an OS/2 printer.

  126. Capture screen 
  127.    Capture the current screen as an image.

  129. Convert to B/W 
  130.    Convert a color image to a grayscale image.

  135. This option allows you to display a Settings View for the image. With the 
  136. settings view, you can: 
  137.  
  138. o Set the current color and the current fill pattern 
  139.  
  140. o Change the size and number of bits/pel for your image 
  141.  
  142. o Set the current line style, line width, and select arrows for line endpoints. 
  143.  
  144. o Set options for a grid that allows you to align shapes and see outline pels.

  148.  
  149. This item allows you to open an OS/2 bitmap image.  The image may be in OS/2 
  150. 1.1, OS/2 1.2, or an OS/2 2.0 image format. Supports 2, 16, and 256 color 
  151. images.

  156. This item allows you to open a PC Paintbrush PCX image. Supports 2, 16, and 256 
  157. color images.

  162. This allows you to save a previously name file. Save is only valid if the image 
  163. has changed. Note that all images will be save in OS/2 2.0 format.

  168. This allows you to specify a name for you image and save it as an OS/2 2.0 
  169. format bitmap.

  174. This option allows you to save your OS/2 2.0 bitmaps using the new compression 
  175. option.  Note that due to bugs in OS/2 images that have a width that is not 
  176. evenly divisible by 2 may have problems.

  180.  
  181. This option will display a list of your current OS/2 printers. You may select a 
  182. printer, set Job properties, and specify the number of copies you wish to 
  183. print.  The bitmap will be stretched by an even multiple in order to best fit 
  184. on the page while preserving image quality.

  189. This item allows you to capture the contents of the current screen as an image. 
  190. The HW/Paint window will disappear for 5 seconds as the image is being 
  191. captured.

  193. The Crop option in the Selected menu is handy for cropping out the regions 
  194. which you want to preserve.

  199. This option converts a color bitmap to a 2 color dithered image. This is 
  200. usefully when pasting images into B/W documents.
