  4. Installation Program 
  5.  
  6. Conversion Pro for OS/2 v1.6 and later versions now implement the ╤åNstall 
  7. installation program by J. R. Kowalczyk. The install program (install.exe) will 
  8. create a directory on your disk of choice and copy all the required files to 
  9. that directory. The installation program also creates a desktop folder and 
  10. populates with the Conversion Pro object, the Calculator object, the TimePro 
  11. object, the LoanPro object, and the on-line User's Guide object.
  12.  
  13. Note:  Please read!!! For reasons of space the run-time library file is not 
  14. included with the Conversion Pro archive- nor is it installed by the install program.

  17. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Installing for the first time ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  18.  
  19. To install Conversion Pro, follow these steps:
  20.  
  21. 1.  Examine the drive and directory in the Path entry field.  The default is 
  22.     C:\conpro16.  This directory will be created and the required program files 
  23.     will be copied there.
  24.  
  25. 2.  If you are not happy with the default installation to the C: drive, change 
  26.     it by choosing another drive under the "Drive" drop-down list.
  27.  
  28. 3.  If you are not happy with the directory, or you want to place it as a 
  29.     subdirectory to a another directory, select the new location in the 
  30.     "Directory" drop-down list. You can always hand-edit the installation 
  31.     directory in the "Path" text entry field. (If you want to just keep 
  32.     everything where it is now, choose "Create desktop objects only").
  33.  
  34. 4.  When you are satisfied with the installation location, push the install 
  35.     button at the bottom of the installation window.
  36.  
  37. 5.  The status of the installation is shown by the slider bar.  If successful, 
  38.     a dialog will pop-up to inform you the installation has completed.
  39.  
  40. 6.  Push the Exit button to close the installation program.
  41.  
  42. 7.  Conversion Pro desktop objects should be created automatically by the 
  43.     installation program.
  44.  
  45. 8.  If Conversion Pro doesn't run, make sure that you have properly placed the 
  46.     run-time library vrobj.dll in a directory on your LIBPATH statement in the 
  47.     OS/2 config.sys file.

  52. Selecting a hard drive to install to 
  53.  
  54. The drive to install Conversion Pro to is selected by the drop-down list box 
  55. labled "Drive".  You do not need to change this unless you wish to install 
  56. Conversion Pro on a drive different from the default C:

  61. Choose another directory with the list box 
  62.  
  63. The "Directory" list box contains entries of the directories on the drive 
  64. currently selected in the "Drive" drop-down list-box.  You can select any 
  65. directory from this list and install the Conversion pro files there.  Or, you 
  66. can select one of the directories shown and then add a subdirectory by typing 
  67. the preferred name in the "Path" entry field.

  72. Where will Conversion Pro be installed?
  73.  
  74. The entry field labeled "Path" shows the current destination directory where 
  75. Conversion Pro will be installed.  The default is C:\conpro16.  You can change 
  76. by typing in a new path, or by using the "Drive" drop-down list and/or the 
  77. "Directory" list.
  78.  
  79. The Path field will always show where Conversion Pro will end, up regardless of 
  80. any previous selections made with the "Drive" or "Directory" lists.

  85. Choosing where to install the program 
  86.  
  87. By default, the destination for installing Conversion Pro is C:\conpro16. If 
  88. you want to change this, do so by changing the drive letter in the "Drive" 
  89. drop-down list, and/or change the directory in the "Directory" drop-down list. 
  90. The new installation drive and/or directory will be reflected in the "Path" 
  91. text entry field.

  93. You can also hand-edit the installation directory in the "Path" text entry field.

  96. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Create WPS objects only ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  97.  
  98. Using "the Create WPS object only" checkbox 
  99.  
  100. If you unzipped the Conversion Pro *.zip archive into a desktop folder or a 
  101. directory on your drive, and want to leave the Conversion Pro files there, 
  102. check this option. The install program will not copy any files to any other 
  103. location. 
  104.  
  105. Desktop objects will then created for the files in that folder or directory.
  106.  
  107. Note:  This option is also useful if you lose or delete your desktop objects. 
  108. From the directory containing all the program files, just run the install 
  109. program again with this check box selected.

  112. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Needed files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  113.  
  114. The install program needs the following files to properly install Conversion Pro:
  115.  
  116. o   install.exe
  117.  
  118. o   install.hlp
  119.  
  120. o   install.dat
  121.  
  122. Don't mess with install.dat unless you know absolutely know what you are doing. 
  123. Otherwise, you could create unexpected results with the install program.
  124.

  126. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Redoing the installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  128. If the installation failed or you want to put Conversion Pro somewhere else, do 
  129. the following:
  130.  
  131. 1.  Throw away (shred) any desktop objects that were created.
  132.  
  133. 2.  Re-run the installation program for the new destination directory.
  134.  
  135. 3.  Delete any other Conversion Pro directory and/or files that you copied to 
  136.     your hard-drive.  You do not have to reboot.
  137.  
  138. Note:  Make sure the reason Conversion Pro is not working is due to a missing 
  139. vrobj.dll run-time library.
  140.  
  141. If only your desktop objects are missing, use the "Create WPS objects only" 
  142. function to remake them.

  145. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. VROBJ.DLL ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  146.  
  147. Conversion Pro needs the vrobj.dll run-time library in order to run. This dll 
  148. is available free from the Watcom division of the PowerSoft Corp. which is in 
  149. turn owned by Sybase, Inc. Many smaller OS/2 apps require this dll, and most 
  150. BBS and ftp sites request it not be included with any archive in order to 
  151. prevent the redundancy of downloading the same dll over and over again.  You 
  152. may already have it if you have installed certain OS/2 apps you may have downloaded.

  154. The file is readily available from many ftp OS/2 sites. You can try the

  163. You need level "2.1c" or later. (e.g., vrobj21c.zip). 
  164.  
  165. Warning: Do NOT get level 2.1a or 2.1b of this dll.  You must use version 2.1c 
  166. or later. If 2.1d may not work as well as 2.1c for some users (depending on 
  167. fixpak level, OS/2 version, etc. Experimentation may be required.

  173. and then get to the VX-REXX library.  Version 2.1d of the VX-REXX run-time DLL 
  174. should be there.
  175.  
  176. Once you have it, it needs to be copied to a directory on your LIBPATH 
  177. statement in the OS/2 config.sys file. I suggest X:\OS2\DLL as a good place to 
  178. put it (where X: is the drive where you have OS/2 installed).  Alternatively, 
  179. you can put the run-time in the \conpro16 directory and add that directory to 
  180. your LIBPATH statement.

  185. The results of the installation are saved to a logging file in the working 
  186. directory.  The file is named install.log
