How to set up OS/2 to run with the SC400 REV 3
*****************************************************************************
THIS PROCEDURE IS PREDICATED THAT YOU ARE INSTALLING FROM
THE OS/2 WARP FULLPACK (blue box) If you are using the red box
(the set without WIN_OS2) then you will need to get the latest
corrective service diskette from IBM to update some non-working
drivers that came with earlier versions of Warp 3.0
*****************************************************************************
The SC400 REV 3 uses an EEPROM to hold it's settings. The program CONFIG.EXE
located in the \SC400\UTILITY directory is used to set the sound card's IRQ,
DMA and Port addresses and then write them to the EEPROM.
OS/2 has a native driver that will work with the REV 3 card. It's the Sound
Galaxy NOVA 16 Extra.
The normal defaults for Reveals SC400 REV 3 will not work with this native
Warp driver and will also not write to the EEPROM therefore we must set the
card's settings from MSDOS (not Warp's DOS window) to the following settings
before we can use the selective install from the OS/2 system folder to
install the Sound Galaxy NOVA 16 EXTRA drivers.
From MSDOS (or an MSDOS partition) change to the SC400\UTILITY directory and
execute the CONFIG.EXE program.
You must set the MIDI PORT to IRQ5, port 300h(MPU-401), and the Sound Blaster
Port 220, IRQ 2/9 or 7, and the MWSS to port 530.
Exit the config program and save the settings to the EEPROM.
Next step is to Start Warp and go to the OS/2 System folder and choose
selective install. Open the sound card window so you can select the correct
sound card type.
NOTE: If there is any other sound card support previously installed, it MUST
be removed.
Pick (if Warp does not automatically detect the card) The Sound Galaxy NOVA
16 EXTRA and then click OK. Follow the prompts and complete the installation
and your SC400 REV 3 should be making sounds after you reboot.
CD ROM INSTALLATION:
A slight change to the WARP CONFIG.SYS will be necessary to facilitate the
use of the Panasonic CD ROM. You will need to add the statement:
BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:630 to the config.sys. For further information
regarding the installation and setup of CD ROM devices, please consult with
Chapter 19 of the Warp Manual pp 321-330.
