  9. DESCRIPTION
  10.  
  11. During startup of OS/2 Warp 4, you press Alt-F1 and choose the F6 
  12. option, Disable Hardware Detection. You then restart the machine and 
  13. access Hardware Manager from the desktop. From the Hardware Manager 
  14. Properties (Settings) menu, you attempt to modify the detection levels; 
  15. however, these levels cannot be changed.

  17. RESOLUTION
  18.  
  19. The most common cause of this problem is that the PREVIOUS.DAT file has 
  20. been moved from the OS2\BOOT directory. Without this file in the proper 
  21. directory, changes cannot be made to hardware detection.
  22.  
  23. To remedy, be sure the PREVIOUS.DAT file is in OS2\BOOT directory.

  25. If you cannot find the PREVIOUS.DAT file, recreate it as follows:
  26.  
  27. 1. Restart the system. When the small white rectangle appears in the 
  28.    upper left corner of the screen, press Alt-F1 to get to the 
  29.    Recovery Choices screen.

  31. 2. Press F5 to re-enable to Hardware Detection.

  33. 3. The PREVIOUS.DAT file is recreated on the next restart.
