--------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
The joystick does not work in OS/2 Warp.
RESOLUTION
Download JOYSTICK.ZIP file from the IBM PCC BBS, CompuServe, or Prodigy.
Notes:
* Be sure to read the README file before applying the fix.
* You need a copy of PKUNZIP.EXE or UNZIP.EXE to extract the ZIP files.
Downloading Files from the PCC BBS
----------------------------------
1. Dial the IBM PCC BBS at 919-517-0001. If you cannot connect to this
number, contact your local IBM Branch office.
When you connect to the BBS, you are asked for the following
information:
Name (F): First Name
Name (L): Last Name
Password: Create a password
2. Press D at the New User Main Menu; then type the name of the file
you want to download. You need JOYSTICK.ZIP.
3. Select N, 8, 1 as the communication protocol.
4. Continue until all required files are on your system.
5. Follow the instructions in README.1ST.
If you have any problems installing the fix, call OS/2 Technical
Support.
OS/2 Joystick Device Driver
---------------------------
Important:
Read the following Terms and Conditions. Your use of the OS/2 Joystick
Device Driver indicates your acceptance of the following terms and
conditions.
* You are a prior licensee of OS/2.
* You may make copies of the OS/2 Joystick Device Driver equal to the
number of licensed copies of OS/2 you possess.
* All other Terms and Conditions of your OS/2 license agreement apply
to this OS/2 Joystick Device Driver. However, this does not extend to
any warranty outlined in such agreement.
Compatibility
-------------
This device driver is compatible with OS/2 Warp 3.0.
Installing Joystick Support with MMPM/2 Installed
-------------------------------------------------
1. Make sure the Joystick is connected to the Game Port or sound card.
2. Insert the OS/2 Joystick Device Driver Diskette in drive A.
3. At the A: prompt, type MINSTALL and press Enter.
4. Select the source drive. Joystick Support is highlighted.
5. Select Install.
The OS/2 Joystick Device Driver installation adds the following
statements to the CONFIG.SYS file (x is the drive where MMPM/2 is
installed):
DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\GAMEDD.SYS
DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\GAMEVDD.SYS
6. Shut down and then restart the system.
Installing Joystick Support when MMPM/2 Is Not Installed
--------------------------------------------------------
1. Make sure the joystick is connected to the Game Port or sound card.
2. Insert the OS/2 Joystick Device Driver Diskette in drive A.
3. Copy GAMEDD.SYS and GAMEVDD.SYS from the diskette to the \OS2
directory of the startup drive.
4. Add the following statements to the end of the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file
(x is the drive where OS/2 is installed):
DEVICE=x:\OS2\GAMEDD.SYS
DEVICE=x:\OS2\GAMEVDD.SYS
5. Shut down and then restart the system.
Settings Page
-------------
Two new settings are added to the Settings page of the DOS and WIN-OS/2
sessions:
GAME_DIRECT_ACCESS
ON This setting essentially disables the driver by
giving the DOS program direct access to the game
port. You should enable this setting only if you're
having control problems with a DOS game and think
the joystick driver might be at fault. This is also
useful for testing the difference between having the
driver enabled and disabled for a particular game.
OFF The default setting. This prevents the DOS program
from talking directly to the game port, and thus
allows the joystick driver to do its work.
GAME_DIGITAL_RESPONSE
ON The default setting. When this option is enabled,
the driver reports information back to the DOS
program, which makes your joystick look much like a
Game Pad, even if your joystick is analog.
OFF Analog joysticks will look like analog joysticks.
Tested Joysticks
----------------
Because joysticks use a generic interface, most should work. The
following have been tested with this driver:
* Advanced Gravis Analog Joystick
* Advanced Gravis PC GamePad
* Advanced Gravis Analog Pro
* CH Products FLIGHTSTICK
* Dexxa Joystick (Infrared)
* Kraft Thunderstick
* Logitech WingMan Extreme
* Logitech WingMan
* ThrustMaster XL Action Controller
