  10. DESCRIPTION

  12. This document contains frequently asked question regarding mouse, 
  13. keyboard, communications, and COM port problems.

  15. RESOLUTION

  17. What's wrong with my Internet connection? Why does it work for a short 
  18. time, and then disconnect?
  19.  
  20.    There might be a compatibility problem with the UART (universal
  21.    asynchronous receiver/transmitter). To check:
  22.  
  23.    1. At the C:\ prompt, type MODE COM(n) and press Enter
  24.       (n is the COM port the modem is connected to; for example,
  25.       1, 2, or 3).
  26.  
  27.    2. Check the BUFFERS= statement in the CONFIG.SYS file. If it
  28.       is BUFFER=N/A, you are using a 16450 UART or less, which
  29.       causes a compatibility problem with this configuration.

  31.    APAR PJ16278 has been opened for this problem. The current fix is to
  32.    upgrade to a 16650 UART.

  34. I installed OS/2 Warp over Windows 3.11 and I am getting error messages 
  35. when trying to run a communication application.  What's wrong?
  36.  
  37.    Windows-based communications applications do not work correctly in a
  38.    WIN-OS/2 session if OS/2 Warp is installed over Windows 3.11. Symptoms
  39.    include errors indicating that no modem is present or other
  40.    communications-related messages.

  42.    To solve the problem:
  43.  
  44.    1. Back up the old COM.DRV file.
  45.    2. Add the Windows 3.1 COM.DRV to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  46.  
  47.    If you have only 3.11, contact Microsoft or your hardware manufacturer
  48.    for the 3.1 COM.DRV.
  49.  
  50. I installed OS/2 Warp on my IBM ThinkPad 720 and now the PCMCIA modem 
  51. does not work.  What should I do?
  52.  
  53.    On the IBM ThinkPad 720, the modem appears in the Configuration
  54.    Manager, but when you try to use it, an error message indicates the
  55.    device driver is not working or is not installed.
  56.

  64. When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, the system doesn't always restart. What's 
  65. wrong?

  67.    At times, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del does not restart the system after a
  68.    shutdown. This usually occurs on Gateway systems, but can happen on
  69.    other OEM systems. APAR PJ16211 addresses this problem.

  71.    The quick fix is to press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice, very rapidly. If this
  72.    does not work, turn off the system and then restart.

  74. Why do I get a SYS1201 error after installing my mouse?
  75.  
  76.    The mouse works during installation, but after the installation
  77.    restart, it does not work. A SYS1201 error appears when the 
  78.    CONFIG.SYS loads the driver.
  79.  
  80.    Copy MOUSE.SYS from Installation Diskette 1 into the OS2\BOOT
  81.    subdirectory. If the problem is not fixed, run Selective Install and
  82.    select the correct mouse type.

  84. Where can I find information for setting my modem for FaxWorks?
  85.  
  86.    The README.DOC in the FaxWorks subdirectory has a comprehensive
  87.    list of modems and required settings.
  88.  
  89. Why aren't my mouse and the pointer aligned when using Windows 3.11 in 
  90. a WIN-OS/2 session?
  91.  
  92.    On Dell and other OEM systems with Windows 3.11, the mouse pointer 
  93.    is an inch off from where the pointer actually is.
  94.  
  95.    Check the size and date of the MOUSE.DRV in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  96.    subdirectory. It should be dated 3/10/92 with a size of 10,672 KB. If 
  97.    not, download MOUSE.ZIP from the Dell BBS at 512-728-8528, or 
  98.    contact your hardware manufacturer for the stated MOUSE.DRV. 
  99.    Copy the correct MOUSE.DRV to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory.
