  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. This document contains information about installing OS/2 for Windows 
  14. from the white-label CD-ROM.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change.
  19.  
  20. There are two README files in the OS2SE21 subdirectory that you can
  21. view or print in DOS or OS/2. This directory also contains images of
  22. all the diskettes. The files are:
  23.  
  24. * README.INS (located on DISK3_)
  25. * README (located on DISK2_)
  26.  
  27. Installing the OS/2 for Windows CD-ROM White Label
  28. --------------------------------------------------
  29. To install OS/2 for Windows using the CD-ROM with the white label,
  30. create the Installation Diskette and DISK1 images on diskette:
  31.  
  32. 1. Start the system with DOS.
  33.  
  34. 2. If drive A is a 3.5-inch drive, insert a formatted diskette and type
  35.    the following commands, pressing Enter after each (x is the CD-ROM
  36.    drive letter):
  37.  
  38.      x:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF x:\DISKIMGS\OS2\35\DISK0_CD.DSK
  39.      x:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF x:\DISKIMGS\OS2\35\DISK1_CD.DSK
  40.  
  41.    If drive A is a 5.25-inch drive, insert a formatted diskette
  42.    and type the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
  43.  
  44.     x:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF x:\DISKIMGS\OS2\525\DISK0_CD.DSK
  45.     x:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF x:\DISKIMGS\OS2\525\DISK1_CD.DSK
  46.  
  47. 3. If the CD-ROM is attached to one of the following devices, and is
  48.    set up correctly, it should be recognized during the installation.
  49.    The OS/2 drivers for CD-ROMs connected to SCSI controllers are:
  50.  
  51.    Adaptec:
  52.  
  53.    AHA152X.ADD
  54.    AHA154X.ADD
  55.    AHA164X.ADD
  56.    AHA174X.ADD
  57.  
  58.    Future Domain:  
  59.  
  60.    FD16-700.ADD
  61.    FD8XX.ADD
  62.    FD7000EX.ADD
  63.  
  64.    DPT:            
  65.  
  66.    DPT20XX.ADD
  67.  
  68.    If your CD-ROM is not attached to a device listed above:
  69.  
  70.    * Contact the vendor of the interface or SCSI card to obtain an OS/2
  71.      driver.
  72.  
  73.    * Ask for the name of the driver to download from the vendor's BBS
  74.      or IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001).
  75.  
  76.    * You can create diskettes from images and install OS/2 using
  77.      diskettes. README.INS provides the procedure for creating OS/2
  78.      diskettes.
  79.  
  80.    * Perform the installation from hard disk to hard disk, as described
  81.      in the following topic.
  82.  
  83. Hard Disk-to-Hard-Disk Installation 
  84. -----------------------------------
  85. 1. Start your system from DOS.
  86.  
  87. 2. Type MD TEMP and press Enter to make a temporary directory.
  88.  
  89. 3. Type XCOPY x:\OS2SE21\*.* /S c:\TEMP and press Enter (x is the
  90.    CD-ROM drive; c is a drive that contains enough disk space for the
  91.    images, or OS/2, or both).
  92.  
  93. 4. To create the Installation Diskette, type the following and press
  94.    Enter after each (size is 35 or 525; x is the CD-ROM drive letter):
  95.  
  96.       x:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF
  97.       x:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISK0.DSK A:
  98.  
  99. 5. To create the DISK1 Diskette, type the following and press Enter
  100.    after each:
  101.  
  102.       x:\DISKIMGS\LOADDSKF
  103.       x:\DISKIMGS\OS2\size\DISK1.DSK A:
  104.  
  105. 6. Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the new DISK1.
  106.  
  107.    Change: SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  108.    To:     SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE C:\TEMP
  109.  
  110.    Save and exit the file.
  111.  
  112.    You can start the installation if you have:
  113.  
  114.    * Installation Diskette
  115.    * DISK1 Diskette
  116.    * Diskette images in a directory called TEMP on the hard disk
  117.  
  118. 7. Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in drive A and restart your
  119.    system.
  120.  
  121. 8. When prompted, insert DISK1 and continue the installation.
  122.  
  123. WIN311.ZIP for Windows 3.11 and Windows for Workgroups 3.X COM Ports
  124. Not Available when Using OS/2 for Windows with XR06300
  125. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  126. A maintenance diskette, WIN311.ZIP, is available for OS/2. The software
  127. is not an upgrade, but code modifications enabling OS/2 for Windows to 
  128. be compatible with:
  129.  
  130. * MS Windows 3.11
  131. * Windows for Workgroups 3.X
  132.  
  133. MS Windows and OS/2 for Windows must be installed before you install 
  134. WIN311.ZIP. Service Pak XR06300 can be installed, if necessary. 
  135. WIN311.ZIP must be installed LAST on the system.
  136.  
  137. Dealers and resellers can order WIN311.ZIP (part number P83G8740)
  138. through GEMS. These diskettes were sent to area PSM Brand Managers.
  139.  
  140. WIN311.ZIP is available from:
  141.  
  142. * CompuServe: GO OS2SUPPO--Library 17
  143. * OS2BBS: OS/2 Fix section of the software library
  144. * Prodigy: Fix section of the download library, IBM files section
  145. * Internet: software.watson.ibm.com
  146.  
  147. The WIN311.ZIP is LAST to be installed. Some systems receive errors
  148. because of read-only files. If errors occur, type ATTRIB -r filename to
  149. remove the read-only attribute. For filename, use the name of the file 
  150. in the error.
  151.  
  152. Installing if WIN-OS/2 Support is Not Installed
  153. -----------------------------------------------
  154. 1. Do a Selective Install for WIN-OS/2 support (if the Service Pak is
  155.    installed, run A:SERVICE from the Service Pak diskettes before
  156.    continuing with the WIN311.ZIP installation).
  157.  
  158. 2. Type PKUNZIP WIN311-D A: and press Enter.
  159.  
  160. 3. Go to an OS/2 Full Screen session.
  161.  
  162. 4. At the command prompt, type x: and press Enter (x is the drive where
  163.    Windows is installed).
  164.  
  165. 5. Type A:\INSTALL and press Enter.
  166.  
  167. 6. Remove the diskette; then shut down and restart the system.
  168.  
  169. Installing with WIN-OS/2 Already Installed
  170. ------------------------------------------
  171. 1. Type PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A: and press Enter.
  172.  
  173. 2. Go to an OS/2 Full Screen session.
  174.  
  175. 3. At the command prompt, type x: and press Enter (x is the drive where
  176.    Windows is installed).
  177.  
  178. 4. Type A:\INSTALL and press Enter.
  179.  
  180. 5. Remove the diskette; then shut down and restart the system.
  181.  
  182. Upgrading Windows 3.1 to Windows for Workgroups
  183. -----------------------------------------------
  184. 1. Install Windows for Workgroups over Windows 3.1.
  185.  
  186.    Note: If you are installing on a system with Dual Boot or Boot
  187.          Manager, you must switch to DOS for the installation.
  188.  
  189. 2. Insert a diskette in drive A. Using PKUNZIP from the root directory,
  190.    type PKUNZIP WIN311 -D A: and press Enter.
  191.  
  192. 3. Go to an OS/2 Full Screen session.
  193.  
  194. 4. At the command prompt, type x: and press Enter (x is the drive where
  195.    Windows is installed).
  196.  
  197. 5. Type A:\INSTALL and press Enter.
  198.  
  199.    Note: Upon completion, the following message appears:
  200.  
  201.             Install successfully completed
  202.  
  203. If you do a Selective Install of WIN-OS/2 after applying WIN311.ZIP, or
  204. reapply the Service Pak diskettes, you need to reapply WIN311.ZIP. 
  205. WIN311.ZIP is always LAST to be installed.
  206.  
  207. COM Ports Not Available when Using OS/2 for Windows with XR06300 and 
  208. Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  209. --------------------------------------------------------------------
  210. When running OS/2 for Windows with Windows for Workgroups 3.11,
  211. WIN311.ZIP should be used. After applying WIN311.ZIP, WIN-OS/2 should 
  212. work except for the error message, "COM ports not available." The 
  213. COMM.DRV driver in Windows for Workgroups 3.11 is different from the 
  214. COMM.DRV driver in standard Windows 3.10. WIN311.ZIP did not address 
  215. the driver.

  217. Replace COMM.DRV in the Windows for Workgroups \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  218. directory with the COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10. Use the 
  219. COMM.DRV file from standard Windows 3.10, not the one from Windows For 
  220. Workgroups 3.11.
