  13. Instructions for Removing OS/2 Warp.

  15. RESOLUTION
  16.  
  17. In the following list, find the item that best describes your situation,
  18. and then go to the appropriate heading for instructions.

  20. * Removing OS/2 Warp from a Preloaded PS/2 system
  21. * Removing OS/2 Warp Using OSDELETE with Either Utility or Installation
  22.   Diskettes
  23. * Using DOS to Remove OS/2 Warp

  27. Removing OS/2 Warp from a Preloaded PS/2 System
  28. -----------------------------------------------

  30. Remember: The OS/2 Warp BonusPak needs OS/2 Warp to work. It might not 
  31. function properly with other versions of the operating system.
  32.  
  33. If you are removing OS/2 Warp to use OS/2 2.0, 2.1, or 2.11:
  34.  
  35. 1. Create a backup of your OS/2 Warp system (use the Diskette Factory).
  36.  
  37. 2. Back up any files that you want to keep.
  38.  
  39. 3. Begin the installation of the OS/2 operating system. When prompted,
  40.    choose to FORMAT the partition containing OS/2 Warp. Formatting
  41.    deletes all files in the partition.
  42.  
  43. 4. Complete the installation.

  46. Removing OS/2 Warp Using OSDELETE with Either Utility or Installation 
  47. Diskettes
  48. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  49.  
  50. You can remove OS/2 Warp using either the Installation diskettes or 
  51. utility diskettes. If your computer came with OS/2 Warp already 
  52. installed, there is a program for creating utility diskettes on the
  53. hard disk. For information about creating utility diskettes, press F1 
  54. or click on the Help push button. To close the Help window, press Esc.
  55. See the User's Guide to OS/2 Warp for additional information.

  57. Notes:
  58.  
  59. * If your system is set up with Dual Boot, start the procedures
  60.   from DOS.
  61.  
  62. * If you are using Installation diskettes, copy OSDELETE.EXE
  63.   from the OS2\INSTALL\BOOTDISK subdirectory to Diskette 1.
  64.  
  65.   Note: If you are adding files to Diskette 1 and need more
  66.         space, you can erase the following files from the COPY
  67.         of Diskette 1and use that diskette:
  68.  
  69.         * For a non-Micro Channel system: IBM2.* files
  70.         * For a Micro Channel system:     IBM1.* files
  71.  
  72. 1. Insert either the Installation Diskette or Utility Diskette 1; then
  73.    press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  74.  
  75. 2. When prompted, remove the diskette and insert either Installation
  76.    Diskette 1 or Utility  Diskette 2; then press Enter.
  77.  
  78.    Note: If your system created three Utility diskettes,
  79.          insert Diskette 3 instead of Diskette 2.
  80.  
  81. 3. At the A:\ prompt, type OSDELETE and press Enter. A message appears
  82.    stating you have requested to remove OS/2.
  83.  
  84. 4. When asked "Do You Wish To Continue?," press Y. A message appears
  85.    stating that files will be removed from the system.
  86.  
  87. 5. When asked "Do You Wish To Stop Now?," press N. A message appears
  88.    asking which partition you wish to remove.
  89.  
  90. 6. Type the partition letter of the drive where OS/2 is installed (for
  91.    example, C or D); then press Enter. A message appears asking for the
  92.    serial number of your computer.
  93.  
  94. 7. Enter either 0 or the serial number of your computer.
  95.  
  96.    After OS/2 Warp is removed, you will be given the verification
  97.    number, 3134. You then will get a message stating that the operating
  98.    system no longer resides on the computer, and you will be directed
  99.    to insert a system diskette.
  100.  
  101. 8. Remove the diskette; then start the system in DOS.
  102.     
  103.    Note: If you are going to re-install OS/2 Warp, insert the
  104.          Installation Diskette and restart the system. If your
  105.          system came with OS/2 Warp preloaded, contact the
  106.          vendor to obtain the full set of Installation diskettes.

  109. Using DOS to Remove OS/2 Warp
  110. -----------------------------
  111.  
  112.  1. Use the Dual Boot function to switch to DOS:
  113.  
  114.     a. Open OS/2 System.
  115.     b. Open Command Prompts.
  116.     c. Open Dual Boot.
  117.  
  118.  2. At the DOS prompt, type DOSSHELL and press Enter.
  119.  
  120.  3. Highlight the following directories and press Del:
  121.  
  122.        \IBMWORKS
  123.        \FAXWORKS
  124.        \HALITE
  125.        \TCPIP
  126.        \P2P
  127.        \CSERVE
  128.        \DESKTOP   (plus any other \DESKTOP# directories)
  129.        \MAINTENA  (all included files and subdirectories)
  130.        \MMOS2
  131.        \NOWHERE
  132.        \NOWHERE1
  133.        \OS2
  134.        \PSFONTS   (all included files and subdirectories)
  135.        \SPOOL
  136.  
  137.  4. Select YES to delete.
  138.  
  139.  5. Press Tab to move to the File window; then select Yes to  delete
  140.     system, hidden, or read-only files.
  141.  
  142.  6. Press Shift+Tab to return to the directory window to resume deleting
  143.     directories.
  144.  
  145.     Note: Do NOT remove these subdirectories if you want to keep
  146.           DOS/Windows:
  147.  
  148.           \DOS
  149.           \WINDOWS
  150.           \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  151.  
  152.  8. Open a DOS command prompt.
  153.  
  154.  9. At the C:> prompt, type the following and press Enter after each:
  155.  
  156.        ATTRIB OS*.* -R -S -H
  157.        ATTRIB *.?SF -R -S -H
  158.        DEL OS*.*
  159.        DEL *.?SF
  160.        DEL SOM.IR
  161.        DEL README
  162.  
  163. 10. At the C:> prompt, type COPY WINDOS.COM WIN.COM and press Enter.
  164.  
  165. You can start Windows by typing WIN at the DOS command prompt.

  168. Using Windows to Remove OS/2 Warp
  169. ---------------------------------
  170.  
  171.  1. Use the Dual Boot function to switch to DOS:
  172.  
  173.     a. Open OS/2 System.
  174.     b. Open Command Prompts.
  175.     c. Open Dual Boot.
  176.  
  177.  2. At the DOS prompt type WIN and press Enter.
  178.  3. Open the Main Group folder.
  179.  4. Select File Manager.
  180.  5. Select View from the top menu bar.
  181.  6. Select By File Type from menu.
  182.  7. Select (X) Show Hidden/System Files.
  183.  8. Select OK.
  184.  9. From the File Manager, select the OS/2 directory.
  185. 10. Press Delete and then OK. 
  186. 11. Select Yes to delete ALL of the following directories:
  187.  
  188.       \IBMWORKS
  189.       \FAXWORKS
  190.       \HALITE
  191.       \TCPIP
  192.       \P2P
  193.       \CSERVE
  194.       \DESKTOP  (plus any other \DESKTOP# directories)
  195.       \MAINTENA (all included files and subdirectories)
  196.        \MMOS2
  197.       \NOWHERE
  198.       \NOWHERE1
  199.       \OS2
  200.       \PSFONTS (all included files and subdirectories)
  201.       \SPOOL
  202.  
  203. 12. When prompted, select Yes.
  204. 13. Select Root Directory.
  205. 14. Using the Tab key or your mouse, move to the file window on the
  206.     right side of your screen.
  207. 15. While pressing Ctrl, highlight the following system files:
  208.  
  209.       EA DATA. SF
  210.       OS2BOOT
  211.       OS2DUMP
  212.       OS2KRNL
  213.       OS2LDR
  214.       OS2LDR.MSG
  215.       OS2LOGO
  216.       OS2VER
  217.       WP ROOT. SF
  218.  
  219. 16. Press Delete. 
  220.  
  221. You have now completed removal of OS/2 Warp. To reinstall it, exit 
  222. Windows, insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in drive A, and restart 
  223. the system.
