  14. How do I get my PCMCIA Token-Ring adapter to work with OS/2 Warp 4.0 on 
  15. an IBM ThinkPad 760CD?
  16.  
  17.   The IBM ThinkPad 760CD uses most available interrupt values. To
  18.   get a PCMCIA Token-Ring adapter to work in a 760CD, set INTERRUPT=11
  19.   in the PROTOCOL.INI file. You can do this during or after 
  20.   installation:
  21.  
  22.   * During installation, from the Network Adapters and Protocols 
  23.     window, click on Settings.
  24.  
  25.   * After installation, use MPTS to reconfigure your adapter:
  26.  
  27.     1. Select System Setup (the Toolbox) from the WarpCenter, then 
  28.        select MPTS Network Adapters and Protocol Services
  29.        (or type MPTS, then press Enter, at an OS/2 command prompt). 
  30.  
  31.     2. Select Configure.
  32.  
  33.     3. Select LAN adapters and Protocols, then Configure.
  34.  
  35.     4. In the Adapter and Protocol Configuration window, under 
  36.        Current Configuration, select the adapter, then press Edit.
  37.  
  38.     5. Type 11 in the System Interrupt Level field.
  39.  
  40.     6. After closing MPTS and saving your changes, shut down and restart
  41.        the system for the changes to take effect.

  50.   To create product diskettes for OS/2 Warp 4 and its networking 
  51.   products, do the following:
  52.  
  53.   1. Insert the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  54.  
  55.   2. At an OS/2 command prompt, type:
  56.  
  57.      D:\PRODDSKS (where D: is the CD-ROM drive letter)
  58.  
  59.   3. From the Main window, access the help file containing the   
  60.      usage instructions.

  63. What prior versions of OS/2 can OS/2 Warp 4.0 be installed over?

  65.   OS/2 Warp 4 can be installed over the following versions of OS/2:

  94. How do I create the three OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Startup Diskettes? 
  95.  
  96.   Note: If you plan to format the partition before installation,
  97.         create the Installation Startup Diskettes first. You must 
  98.         have either a DOS or an OS/2 Operating System available to
  99.         use the CDINST command.
  100.  
  101.   To create OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskettes:
  102.  
  103.   1. Insert the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  104.   2. Open a command prompt session, and type:
  105.       
  106.          D:\CDINST; then press Enter
  107.    
  108.      (where D: is the CD-ROM drive letter)
  109.  
  110.   3. Follow the directions on screen to make the three diskettes needed 
  111.      to install OS/2 Warp 4.  You will be prompted to label and create 
  112.      Diskette #1, Diskette #2, and then the Install Diskette.
  113.     
  114.      After the third diskette (Install Diskette) is created, you will 
  115.      be prompted to press Enter to start the installation. Leave
  116.      the third diskette (Install Diskette) in the disk drive; it is 
  117.      the first diskette of the installation.

  120. I cannot run CHKDSK from the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskettes when I 
  121. exit to a command prompt.  How do I run CHKDSK?
  122.  
  123.   CHKDSK.COM is no longer on Diskette #2. Make the Utility Diskettes 
  124.   once the system is installed, or make Diskette #3  from the image on
  125.   the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM: \OS2IMAGE\DISK_3.

  127.   To create Utility Diskettes:
  128.    
  129.   1. Double click on the OS/2 System folder.
  130.  
  131.   2. Double click on the System Setup folder.
  132.  
  133.   3. Double click on Create Utility Diskettes.
  134.  
  135.   4. Select the Drive Letter where Utility Diskettes will be created.
  136.  
  137.   5. Click on Create.
  138.  
  139.   6. Select the source drive and directory, for example: D:\OS2IMAGE 
  140.      (Where D: is the CD-ROM drive letter).

  144.   8. Follow the prompts to insert diskettes into Drive where Diskettes 
  145.      are to be created.

  149.      Note: You will need four (1.44 MB capacity) diskettes to make the  
  150.            Utility Diskettes.

  153. When installing OS/2 Warp 4.0, TME/10 NetFinity or 
  154. Remote Access Client did not install.  How do I install them? 
  155.  
  156.   If you had a previous version of System View on your system, you 
  157.   must remove it before OS/2 Warp 4 will allow you to install TME/10 
  158.   NetFinity. If you had a previous version of LAN Distance on your 
  159.   system, you must remove it before OS/2 Warp 4.0 will allow you to 
  160.   install Remote Access Client.
  161.  
  162.   Once System View or LAN Distance is removed, you can use Selective  
  163.   Install to install TME/10 NetFinity or Remote Access Client.

  165.   1. Insert the OS/2 Warp 4 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  166.   2. Double click on the OS/2 System folder.
  167.   3. Open the System Setup folder.
  168.   4. Open the Install/Remove folder.
  169.   5. Double click on Selective Install For Networking.
  170.   6. Choose Easy or Advanced Installation path. Click on Next.
  171.   7. Select Let Me Choose From All The Services. Click on Next.

  181. My installation of OS/2 Warp 4.0 fails during the first three diskettes.
  182. What should I try next?
  183.  
  184.   If you have problems with the first three diskettes during the
  185.   first phase of the installation process, do the following:
  186.  
  187.   Insert the Installation Diskette and restart the system.
  188.   Do the following:
  189.  
  190.   1. When the white band "OS/2" displays in the upper left
  191.      corner of your screen, press Alt+F1.
  192.  
  193.   2. From the Selection window, select F6, disable detection of
  194.      your hardware.
  195.  
  196.   If the above procedure does not work, do the following:
  197.  
  198.   1. Insert the Installation Diskette and restart the system.
  199.  
  200.   2. When the white band "OS/2" displays in the upper left corner,
  201.      press Alt+F2 to display the Loading Device Driver window.
  202.      This helps you identify the device driver that is attempting
  203.      to load.
  204.  
  205.   3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and comment out the device driver
  206.      statement.
  207.  
  208.   4. Restart the system.
  209.  
  210.  
  211. Where can I find the latest device drivers for OS/2 Warp 4.0?
  212.         
  213.   If support for your hardware is not included in OS/2 Warp 4, you will 
  214.   need additional device drivers in order to start your OS/2 Warp 4 
  215.   installation. For instance, your CD-ROM drive might be attached
  216.   to a hard disk controller that is not
  217.   supported. If you see a message during the first three installation 
  218.   diskettes that your CD-ROM is not supported, this is generally 
  219.   the reason.
  220.  
  221.   IBM has supplied you with an additional CD-ROM labeled "Device
  222.   Driver Pak."
  223.  
  224.   Once you are have OS/2 Warp 4 installed, you can access the following 
  225.   World Wide Web site for a complete listing of over 2500 devices
  226.   that are supported by OS/2 Warp 4.
  227.   The web-site includes information about each compatible device by 
  228.   category, and where to find the device driver. Information is 
  229.   provided for over 400 device manufacturers.  
  230.

  233.   Once you obtain the appropriate device driver, follow the instructions
  234.   for the type of device provided by your supplier.
  235.  
  236.   For BASEDEV= device drivers add your device driver to Diskette #1:
  237.  
  238.   1. Make a backup copy of Diskette #1.
  239.  
  240.   2. If there is enough room on Diskette #1 copy the device driver file
  241.      to Diskette #1.
  242.  
  243.   3. If there is not enough room on Diskette #1 and you are installing 
  244.      to a non-microchannel system, erase the following files: 
  245.  
  246.             IBM2ADSK.ADD
  247.             IBM2SCSI.ADD
  248.             CLOCK02.SYS  
  249.             SCREEN02.SYS  
  250.  
  251.      This should free an additional 55K.
  252.  
  253.   4. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on Diskette #1 to add the device
  254.      driver statement to the CONFIG.SYS as the FIRST LINE in the
  255.      CONFIG.SYS. For example: 
  256.  
  257.             BASEDEV=XXXXXXXX.YYY  
  258.  
  259.      where: XXXXXXXX.YYY is your device driver name     
  260.  
  261.      Add any necessary parameters as stated in the hardware device's
  262.      product documentation.
  263.  
  264.   5. Add the following statement to the CONFIG.SYS file to ensure the 
  265.      driver is copied throughout installation:
  266.  
  267.             SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1
  268.  
  269.   6. Use the modified Diskette #1 when prompted for Diskette #1 during 
  270.      the installation process.
  271.  
  272.   7. If you lose connection to your hard disk or CD-ROM, during the 
  273.      installation process or when restarting your system, make 
  274.      sure that the device driver statement is in the CONFIG.SYS
  275.      and the device driver file has been copied to the 
  276.      \OS2\BOOT\ directory.
  277.  
  278.   For DEVICE= device drivers, add your device driver to Diskette #2:
  279.  
  280.   1. Make a backup copy of Diskette #1 and Diskette #2.
  281.  
  282.   2. Copy your device driver to Diskette #2.
  283.  
  284.   3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the Diskette #1 to add the device
  285.      driver statement to the CONFIG.SYS as the FIRST LINE in the
  286.      CONFIG.SYS file. For example:
  287.  
  288.             DEVICE=XXXXXXXX.SYS
  289.  
  290.      where: XXXXXXXX.SYS is your device driver name
  291.  
  292.   4. Add any necessary parameters as stated in the hardware device's
  293.      product documentation.
  294.  
  295.   5. Use the modified Diskette #1 and Diskette #2 when prompted during
  296.      installation process.
  297.     
  298.   6. If you lose connection to your hard disk or CD-ROM, during the 
  299.      installation process or when restarting your system, make 
  300.      sure that the device driver statement is in the CONFIG.SYS 
  301.      and the device driver file has been copied to the 
  302.      \OS2\BOOT\ directory.
  303.  
  304. The progress indicator has stopped while installing OS/2 Warp 4.0
  305. What should I do?  
  306.  
  307.   If the progress indicator stops moving during the installation process
  308.   and the CD-ROM and disk lights on your workstation indicate no install
  309.   activity, do the following:
  310.  
  311.   1. Minimize the progress indicator by doing the following:
  312.  
  313.      a. Press Alt+Shift+F3. The Minimize button appears in the
  314.         top right corner of your screen.
  315.  
  316.      b. Press the Minimize button.
  317.  
  318.   2. Open an OS/2 window and view the following files to help 
  319.      you locate the problem. You might be able to solve the problem
  320.      yourself.
  321.  
  322.      Each OS/2 Warp network product produces log files as they
  323.      are installed; they are stored in subdirectories in the following 
  324.      path:
  325.  
  326.             \IBMINST\LOGS\
  327.  
  328.      The OS/2 Warp network product install status, including
  329.      which products were installed, is stored in the following file:
  330.  
  331.             \IBMINST\LOGS\LOCINSTU\LOCAL.L2
  332.  
  333.      The response files used for local install of OS/2 network
  334.      products are stored in:
  335.  
  336.             \IBMINST\RSP\LOCAL\

  344. How do I turn off prerequisite checking, when installing OS/2 Warp 4.0
  345. Networking features?
  346.          
  347.   During installation, OS/2 Warp checks for sufficient disk space 
  348.   (DASD), checks that all prerequisite software is installed, and 
  349.   auto detects your network adapter. To disable this checking
  350.   during the install process, you can use the following three
  351.   switches:
  352.  
  353.   * NoDASD:   Turns off DASD checking.  This enables you force a
  354.               product to be installed when the software thinks
  355.               there is not enough disk space.
  356.  
  357.               Warning: If you disable DASD checking you might run out
  358.                        of disk space during install and OS/2 Warp will
  359.                        not operate properly.
  360.  
  361.   * NoPrereq: Turns off prerequisite checking. This enables you to 
  362.               force a product to be installed when the software thinks
  363.               that it cannot be installed.
  364.  
  365.   * NoSniff:  Turns off the network card detection. This may be
  366.               necessary if the detection logic hangs the system
  367.               while detecting adapters.
  368.  
  369.  
  370.   To set these switches, add one or more of the following environment
  371.   variables to the CONFIG.SYS file located on Diskette #1.  
  372.  
  373.                 CONNECT_DASD=NO
  374.                 CONNECT_PREREQ=NO
  375.                 CONNECT_SNIFF=NO
  376.  
  377.   For example, to install OS/2 Warp without checking DASD 
  378.   for network products, do the following:
  379.  
  380.   1. Add the following statement to the CONFIG.SYS file located on
  381.      Installation Diskette #1 (local or remote install diskette):
  382.  
  383.                 SET CONNECT_DASD=NO
  384.  
  385.   2. Restart the installation process.
  386.  
  387.  
  388. What are the hardware and memory requirements of VoiceType for OS/2 
  389. Warp 4.0?
  390.         
  391.   VoiceType for OS/2 Warp (hereafter called VoiceType) requires 
  392.   a minimum of a Pentium or equivalent processor and 24 MB of memory.
  393.   Performance will not be satisfactory with 486 or equivalent
  394.   processors.
  395.  
  396.   VoiceType should work with any OS/2 Warp supported audio card that
  397.   provides 16 bit, 11 KHz sampling. The following sound cards were 
  398.   tested with VoiceType:
  399.

  426.   If it appears that your audio card does not work with VoiceType,  
  427.   make sure your audio card and microphone are connected
  428.   correctly and are working properly. To check them, use the Check
  429.   Installation utility in the VoiceType folder and the Digital Audio
  430.   Recorder in the Multimedia folder.

  432.   VoiceType works best with a close talking or a unidirectional
  433.   microphone. Andrea Electronics NC-50 and ANC-500 microphones were
  434.   tested with VoiceType.
