  11. DESCRIPTION

  13. If the installation procedure stops, you might be able to complete the 
  14. installation without reusing all of the installation diskettes. You do 
  15. not have to use all diskettes again if the installation stopped after 
  16. you were prompted to put the Installation Diskette in the drive for the 
  17. second time (after you are in the graphical installation). For example, 
  18. if you were copying files from Diskette 9 on a 3.5-inch-diskette system,
  19. you could resume the installation at Diskette 9 after doing the 
  20. following:

  24. Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change.
  25.  
  26.  1. Identify which diskette was being "unpacked" when the installation
  27.     procedure stopped.
  28.  
  29.  2. If you have 3.5-inch diskettes, subtract the number printed on the
  30.     diskette from 15 and add 1 to the result (subtract the number from
  31.     18 if you have 5.25-inch diskettes). For example, if you were on
  32.     Diskette 9 on a 3.5-inch system, the result would be 7.

  34.  3. Start the computer with the Installation Diskette; when prompted,
  35.     remove the diskette and insert Diskette 1.
  36.  
  37.  4. When prompted, press Esc to cancel. A command prompt appears.
  38.  
  39.  5. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the hard disk.
  40.  
  41.  6. On the line that starts with FIRSTDISK, change the number to the 
  42.     number of the diskette that was in the diskette drive when the
  43.     installation stopped. For example, if installation stopped at
  44.     Diskette 9, the line should read:
  45.  
  46.        FIRSTDISK=9
  47.  
  48.  7. On the line that starts with NUMDISKS, change the number to the one
  49.     you reached in step 2. In the example, this was 7, so the line
  50.     should read:
  51.  
  52.        NUMDISKS=7
  53.  
  54.  8. Save and exit the CONFIG.SYS file; then remove the diskette and
  55.     press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  56.  
  57.  9. At the graphical installation screen, select OK and then Install.
  58.     Select all defaults.
  59.  
  60. 10. When prompted, insert the diskette that was being loaded when the
  61.     installation procedure stopped.
  62.  
  63. All the Selective Install choices you selected when you originally 
  64. tried to install OS/2 are preserved.
