IBM CID Enablement for OS/2 2.1

Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
--------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
This document describes the IBM Configuration, Installation,
Distribution (CID) enablement for OS/2 2.1.
RESOLUTION
Note: This document is not a substitution for the CID User's Guide.
The A LA CARTE installation method is more stable. If you use this
method, be sure to follow this sequence; otherwise, you could have
problems:
1. OS/2 Bases 2.x
2. NTS/2 (LAPS 2.11)
3. Communication Manager/2
4. LAN Requester 3.0
5. Any other options
Notes:
1. Install LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS) if you are
installing Communication Manager or LAN Requester.
2. Do NOT stop the CID installation process during the first 4 items to
install something from diskette.
When using the A LA CARTE method, do a shutdown after each step. This
is necessary to allow all programs to register with the system before
the next step. The most critical is after LAPS is installed.
1. If you are prompted to select the next item, do NOT do it to save
time. It could cause problems with the installation.
2. Make sure you shut down before closing the OS/2 Installation window.
When you do a shutdown, OS/2 will record certain information about
the open windows. The information is re-read when the system is
restarted. CID uses this feature as part of the installation
process. If a window is closed, it is not remembered at startup.
This causes CID to abend.
3. If you can, format the partition. Starting fresh improves
performance.
4. If the system stops after the message "Connecting to the CID
server," the server is either down or being used to capacity. Try
not to stop the system. If it stops, retry the last process you were
performing.
5. Do not migrate Windows applications unless you are an experienced
Windows user and familiar with Windows INI files.
6. If formatting for high performance file system (HPFS), remember that
DOS does not recognize data stored in an HPFS partition.
7. If you do not have a startable DOS diskette, or are formatting for
HPFS, save the CID diskettes. This lets you start the system from
the diskette drive.
8. If repartitioning the hard disk, try to put OS/2, LAPS, and the
Swapper file (SWAPPER.DAT) on the same drive.
