  7.                           Repartitioning

  13. DESCRIPTION
  14.  
  15. This document describes how to install Boot Manager without 
  16. repartitioning the entire hard disk.
  17.  
  18. RESOLUTION
  19.  
  20. In this example, an 80 MB hard disk consists of a 10 MB primary
  21. partition (containing DOS) and a 70 MB logical drive. The primary (DOS)
  22. partition is preserved, but the logical drive is deleted and replaced 
  23. by:
  24.  
  25. * A 1 MB Boot Manager partition
  26. * A 49 MB logical drive, where OS/2 is installed
  27. * A 20 MB logical drive, used for programs and data
  28.  
  29. The Boot Manager partition will be placed at the END of the hard disk.
  30.  
  31.  1. Back up any data you want to save from the existing logical drive.
  32.     Use the BACKUP command from your existing operating system.
  33.  
  34.  2. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A. If you are installing
  35.     from a CD, also insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. Restart the
  36.     system.
  37.  
  38.  3. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert Diskette
  39.     1; then press Enter. Files are loaded into memory; then a message
  40.     asking you to wait appears, followed by a black screen.
  41.  
  42.  4. When the Installation Drive Selection screen appears, select option
  43.     2, Specify a Different Drive or Partition.
  44.  
  45.  5. Delete the existing logical drive (which you have backed up):
  46.  
  47.     a. Highlight the line that contains information about the logical
  48.        drive.
  49.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  50.     c. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.

  52.  6. Create the Boot Manager partition and install Boot Manager:
  53.  
  54.     a. Make sure the Free Space line is highlighted.
  55.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  56.     c. Select Install Boot Manager and press Enter.
  57.     d. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.

  59.  7. Create the first logical drive (for OS/2 2.1):
  60.  
  61.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  62.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  63.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  64.     d. Type the size of the extended logical drive (here 49) and press
  65.        Enter.
  66.     e. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.
  67.     f. Select Create at Start of Free Space and press Enter.
  68.     g. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  69.     h. Select Add to Boot Manager Menu and press Enter.
  70.     i. Type OS/2 2.1 and press Enter.

  73.  8. Create the second logical drive (for programs and data):

  75.     a. Highlight the Free Space line.
  76.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  77.     c. Select Create Partition and press Enter.
  78.     d. Accept the size of the extended logical drive (here 20) by
  79.        pressing Enter.
  80.     e. Select Extended Logical Drive and press Enter.

  82.     Note: If you enter a number less than 20 for the size of the
  83.           logical drive, you also have to select from Create at Start
  84.           of Free Space or Create at End of Free Space.

  86.  9. Set up OS/2 2.1 as the default:
  87.  
  88.     a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  89.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  90.     c. Select Set Startup Values and press Enter.
  91.     d. Select Default and press Enter.
  92.     e. Press F3.

  94. 10. Indicate which partition should be used for the OS/2 2.1
  95.     installation:
  96.  
  97.     a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  98.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  99.     c. Select Set Installable and press Enter.

  101. 11. Add the name for the DOS partition to the Boot Manager Startup menu:

  103.     a. Highlight the line that contains information about the DOS
  104.        partition.
  105.     b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  106.     c. Select Add to Boot Manager Menu and press Enter.
  107.     d. Type DOS and press Enter.

  109. 12. Exit FDISK:
  110.  
  111.     a. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  112.     b. Select Save and Exit and press Enter.
  113.  
  114. 13. Continue with OS/2 installation until you see the OS/2 Setup and
  115.     Installation window.
  116.  
  117. 14. Format the logical drive:
  118.  
  119.     a. Select Select Features and Install.
  120.     b. Specify any changes to the System Configuration window.
  121.     c. When the second OS/2 Setup and Installation window appears,
  122.        select Options from the menu bar.
  123.     d. Select Format.
  124.     e. Indicate which file system you want to use to format the logical
  125.        drive.

  127. 15. Complete the installation of OS/2 2.1.
