  5.              Installing OS/2 2.1 when Drive A Is 5.25-Inch

  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. Your OS/2 2.1 package contains 3.5-inch diskettes, and your 3.5-inch 
  14. drive is drive B.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. 1. Exchange the OS/2 2.1 package for a 5.25-inch version.
  19.  
  20. 2. Download the following from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001) or from
  21.    CompuServe:
  22.  
  23.    Blue Diskettes:            
  24.  
  25.       PKUNZIP
  26.       INS21L.ZIP
  27.       LDF.COM
  28.  
  29.    Salmon or Green Diskettes:
  30.  
  31.       PKUNZIP
  32.       INS21M.ZIP
  33.       LDF.COM
  34.  
  35.    Each file has a README file that provides instructions.
  36.  
  37.    PKUNZIP is addressed shortly after logging on and gives you the
  38.    option to download it.
  39.  
  40. 3. Create 5.25-inch OS/2 startable diskettes using the procedure below
  41.    and install OS/2 from drive B.
  42.  
  43. You can change your CMOS or BIOS setup and switch cables on the 
  44. diskette drives.
  45.  
  46. If you receive a COUNTRY.SYS error message with Diskette 1 while 
  47. redirecting:
  48.  
  49. * Check cables to verify they were switched correctly.
  50. * Check the CMOS setup for the drives changed.
  51.  
  52. If problems or questions occur while doing this, contact the system 
  53. vendor.
  54.  
  55. Creating 5.25-Inch Startable Diskettes
  56. --------------------------------------
  57. You need the DOS Debug utility program, about 1.5 MB of space on the 
  58. hard disk, and two 1.2 MB 5.25-inch diskettes. Label one diskette OS/2 
  59. V2.1 525DISK 0 and the other OS/2 V2.1 525DISK 1.
  60.  
  61.  1. Insert the 525DISK 1 diskette in drive A; then type
  62.     C:\>FORMAT A: /U and press Enter.
  63.  
  64.  2. When prompted for the volume label, type DISK 1 and press Enter.
  65.  
  66.  3. When "Format another diskette (Y/N)?" appears, press Y and then
  67.     Enter.
  68.  
  69.  4. Remove the diskette and insert 525DISK 0; then press Enter.
  70.  
  71.  5. When prompted for the volume label, type DISK 0 and press Enter.
  72.  
  73.  6. When "Format another diskette (Y/N)?" appears, press N and then
  74.     Enter.

  76.  7. Insert the OS/2 v2.1 Installation Diskette in drive B; then type
  77.     the following commands, pressing Enter after each:

  79.        C:\>DEBUG
  80.        -L DS:0 1 0 1
  81.        -E 13 60
  82.        -E 14 09
  83.        -E 15 F9
  84.        -E 16 07
  85.        -E 18 0F
  86.        -W DS:0 0 0 1
  87.        -Q

  89.        C:\>COPY B:\OS2BOOT A:\
  90.        C:\>COPY B:\OS2LDR A:\
  91.        C:\>COPY B:\OS2LDR.MSG A:\
  92.        C:\>COPY B:\OS2KRNLI A:\
  93.        C:\>COPY B:\ABIOS.SYS A:\
  94.        C:\>COPY B:\*.BIO A:\

  96.  8. Remove the Installation Diskette from drive B and the 525DISK 0
  97.     diskette from drive A.
  98.  
  99.  9. Insert 525DISK 1 in drive A and OS/2 Diskette 1 in drive B.

  101. 10. Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
  102.  
  103.        C:\>MD BINST
  104.        C:\>COPY B:\*.* BINST
  105.        C:\>DEL BINST\BUNDLE
  106.        C:\>DEL BINST\SYSINST2.EXE
  107.        C:\>COPY BINST\*.* A:\
  108.        C:\>ECHO SET OS2_SHELL=CMD.EXE>> A:\CONFIG.SYS
  109.        C:\>ECHO SET DISKETTESOURCE=B:\ >> A:\CONFIG.SYS

  111. 11. Insert 525DISK 0 in drive A; then restart the system.
  112.  
  113. 12. When prompted for Diskette 1, insert 525DISK 1 in drive A.
  114.  
  115. 13. Press Enter. You are now at the A: prompt.
  116.  
  117. 14. Insert OS/2 Diskette 1 in drive B; then type B:\SYSINST2 and press
  118.     Enter. The OS/2 installation starts from drive B.
  119.  
  120. 15. When prompted, insert the OS/2 v2.1 Installation diskettes in drive
  121.     B.
  122.  
  123. 16. Leave the 525DISK 1 diskette in drive A until you are prompted to
  124.     remove all diskettes; then remove the diskettes and restart the
  125.     system.
