=======================================================================
During Install or Startup, the System Locks Up
=======================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
--------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
During installation or startup, the machine locks up. A black screen
usually appears, possibly with a blinking cursor; sometimes you see the
OS/2 Warp Logo.
To determine where the problem is, restart the system:
* If the problem occurs during installation, restart the system
using the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation diskettes.
* If the problem occurs after installation, restart the system from the
hard disk.
When the OS/2 appears in the top left corner, press F2. This will
cause all drivers to be displayed as they are loaded. If the lockup
occurs while loading SONY31A.SNP, follow the steps listed below.
Note: These steps may be used if the system hangs on any .SNP driver.
Substitute the name of the errant .SNP (and .ADD) file instead of
using the SONY31A filename.
RESOLUTION
To resolve:
If the lockup occurs during installation:
1. Restart the system with the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskettes.
Press Alt-F1 when the OS/2 appears in the top left corner, then
press F2 for a command prompt. (You can also insert Diskettes #1
and #2, and then press F3 at the Welcome screen for command prompt.)
2. With Diskette #1 in the drive, type TEDIT A:\SNOOP.LST, then press
Enter, to edit the SNOOP.LST file on the diskette.
3. Place a semicolon (;) before the line containing SONY31A.SNP in the
SNOOP.LST file. Save and exit the file, by pressing F4.
4. Type TEDIT A:\CONFIG.SYS to edit the CONFIG.SYS file on Diskette #1.
5. Place a REM at the beginning of any lines containing the SONY31A.ADD
driver. Press F4 to save and exit the file.
6. Restart the installation with the OS/2 Warp 4 Installation Diskette.
If the lockup occurs after installation:
1. Restart the system; press Alt-F1 when the OS/2 appears in the top
left corner, then press F2 for a command prompt.
2. From the command prompt, type CD \OS2\BOOT, then press Enter.
3. Type TEDIT SNOOP.LIST, then press Enter, to edit the SNOOP.LST file
on the startup drive, in the \OS2\BOOT directory.
4. Place a semicolon (;) before the line containing SONY31A.SNP in the
SNOOP.LST file. Press F4 to save and exit the file.
5. Type TEDIT \CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter, to edit the CONFIG.SYS file
in the root directory of the startup drive.
4. Place a REM at the beginning of any lines containing the SONY31A.ADD
driver. Press F4 to save and exit the file.
5. Restart the system.
