  11. DESCRIPTION
  12.  
  13. Error message SYS3175 occurs during installation either after the first 
  14. restart or while doing a Selective Install.
  15.  
  16. RESOLUTION
  17.  
  18. Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change.
  19.  
  20. If you are NOT using a Future Domain SCSI driver, rename FD16-700.EXE 
  21. to FD16-700.BAK or FD16-700.OLD. The file is in OS2\DRIVERS 
  22. subdirectory.
  23.  
  24. If you have a Future Domain driver and receive the SYS3175 message, 
  25. contact your vendor for an updated driver.
  26.  
  27. You Install a Video or Printer Driver and Receive the SYS3175 Error 
  28. Message
  29.  
  30. The solution is the same for both a video driver and a printer driver:
  31.  
  32. 1. Reset video to VGA.
  33.  
  34.    Note: If you have one of the following, it is highly recommended
  35.          that you reset to VGA mode before you continue:
  36.  
  37.          * IBM ValuePoint
  38.          * ATI
  39.          * S-3 chip set
  40.  
  41. 2. Run CHKDSK.
  42.  
  43. 3. Run MAKEINI (ValuePoints use a special MAKEINI).
  44.  
  45. Reset Video to VGA
  46. ------------------
  47. Use the following procedure instead of the SETVGA command if you have
  48. to return to VGA mode. Do the steps after starting OS/2 from the 
  49. Installation Diskette and escaping to the command prompt.
  50.  
  51. Note: In all of the procedures, x is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  52.  
  53.   Case 1: You Installed OS/2 from Diskettes
  54.   -----------------------------------------
  55.   * If RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS\INSTALL\ directory, type the following
  56.     and press Enter after each (A: is the diskette drive you used to
  57.     install OS/2):
  58.  
  59.        x:
  60.        CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  61.        RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:x:
  62.  
  63.   * If RSPDSPI.EXE is NOT in the \OS2\INSTALL\ directory:
  64.  
  65.     1. Insert Installation Diskette 8; then type the following and 
  66.        press Enter to unpack RSPDSPI.EXE (A: is the diskette drive
  67.        containing Diskette 8):
  68.  
  69.           x:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID x: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  70.  
  71.     2. Type the following and press Enter after each (A: is the
  72.        diskette drive you used to install OS/2):
  73.  
  74.           x:
  75.           CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  76.           RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:x:

  78.   Case 2: You Installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN
  79.   -----------------------------------------------
  80.   * If RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS\INSTALL\ directory, type the following
  81.     and press Enter after each (E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive):

  83.        x:
  84.        CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  85.        RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:x:
  86.  
  87.   * If RSPDSPI.EXE is NOT in the \OS2\INSTALL\ directory:
  88.  
  89.     1. Type the following and press Enter to unpack RSPDSPI.EXE (E: is
  90.        the CD-ROM or LAN drive):
  91.  
  92.           x:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID x:/N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  93.  
  94.     2. Type following and press Enter after each (E: is the CD-ROM or
  95.        LAN drive):
  96.  
  97.           x:
  98.           CD x:\OS2\INSTALL
  99.           RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:x:
  100.  
  101. Run CHKDSK
  102. ----------
  103. 1. Shut down the system. If you're unable to shut down, turn off the
  104.    system for 30 seconds.
  105.  
  106. 2. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A.
  107.  
  108. 3. If you performed a shutdown in step 1, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
  109.    the system. If you turned the system off, turn it on.
  110.  
  111. 4. When prompted, remove the Installation Diskette and insert
  112.    Diskette 1.
  113.  
  114. 5. Press Enter.
  115.  
  116. 6. When the Welcome Screen appears, press Esc to get to the command
  117.    prompt.
  118.  
  119. 7. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2, which contains the CHKDSK
  120.    command.
  121.  
  122.    Note: If you installed from CD, the command prompt stops at the
  123.          CD-ROM drive in the DISK_1 subdirectory. Type the following
  124.          and press Enter to change to the DISK_2 subdirectory (E is the
  125.          CD-ROM drive):
  126.  
  127.             E:\OS2SE21\DISK_2 
  128.  
  129. 8. To correct errors on the hard disk, type the appropriate CHKDSK
  130.    command, as follows, and press Enter:
  131.  
  132.    * For FAT file system:  CHKDSK x: /F
  133.    * For HPFS:             CHKDSK x: /F:2
  134.  
  135. 9. Press Enter to start the CHKDSK command. If you have any errors, you
  136.    need to run CHKDSK repeatedly until ALL errors are cleared up.
  137.  
  138. Run MAKEINI
  139. -----------
  140. Note: This method of MAKEINI should not to be used for the IBM PS
  141.       ValuePoint. Follow the instructions in the next section,
  142.       "Running MAKEINI on a ValuePoint."
  143.  
  144. 1. Change to the drive containing OS/2, and then to the OS/2
  145.    subdirectory. For example, type the following and press Enter:
  146.  
  147.       x:
  148.      CD OS2
  149.  
  150. 2. At the command line type the following and press Enter after each:
  151.  
  152.       MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC
  153.       MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC
  154.  
  155.    Note: If you are unable to access the INI files, type the following
  156.          and press Enter:
  157.  
  158.             ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
  159.  
  160.          Then retry to run MAKEINI.
  161.  
  162. 3. At the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each
  163.    to delete the hidden file, WP ROOT.SF, in the OS/2 startable
  164.    partition:
  165.  
  166.       ATTRIB x:\WP?ROOT.?SF -s -r -h
  167.       DEL x:\WP?ROOT.?SF
  168.  
  169. 4. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system. This replaces the INI
  170.    files.
  171.  
  172. 5. Do an immediate shutdown after installation to ensure all programs
  173.    and files have been associated correctly.
  174.  
  175. Running MAKEINI on a ValuePoint
  176. -------------------------------
  177. 1. Change to the drive containing OS/2, and then to the DLL\DISPLAY
  178.    subdirectory. For example, type the following and press Enter:
  179.  
  180.       x:
  181.      CD DLL\DISPLAY
  182.  
  183. 2. Type the following and press Enter to copy DISPLAY.DLL to the
  184.    OS2\DLL subdirectory (this file should be 76988 bytes):
  185.  
  186.       COPY DISPLAY.DLL x:\OS2\DLL
  187.  
  188. 3. Type the following and press Enter after each:
  189.  
  190.       CD\OS2\INSTALL
  191.       COPY OS2.INI x:\OS2\OS2.INI
  192.       COPY OS2SYS.INI x:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI
  193.  
  194. 4. At the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each
  195.    to delete the hidden file, WP?ROOT.SF:
  196.  
  197.       ATTRIB x:\WP?ROOT.?SF -s -r -h
  198.       DEL x:\WP?ROOT.?SF
  199.  
  200. 5. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
  201.    
  202.    This takes approximately 5 minutes. If the system does not start
  203.    correctly, or if you need further assistance, call Support and
  204.    request video (or printer) support. Please document the procedure
  205.    and problem.
