If you have a Headland HT216 display adapter you will be unable to
obtain 256 colors with the Warp SVGA driver. The way I finally
managed to get 256 colors was to use Selective Install to install the
the driver for the Headland Technologies HT209 adapter and then replaced
the BVHSVGA.DLL file in the OS2\Dll directory with the BVHSVGA.Dll
file supplied by Headland for use in OS/2 2.1.
NOTICE: BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE FOLLOWING MAKE SURE THAT YOU
HAVE THE ARCHIVE FUNCTION TURNED ON IN THE DESKTOP
FOLDER! THIS WILL ENABLE YOU TO RESTORE YOUR
DISPLAY TO VGA IF YOU CAN NOT BOOT BACK INTO WARP
AFTER SWITCHING TO SVGA. SEE PAGE 215 IN YOUR
USER'S GUIDE. I think that the Archive Function
is the biggest improvement in Warp over 2.1 and
should always be enabled.
When you attempt to install the HT209 driver, Warp will tell you
that your card does not support that driver and ask if you want to stop
or continue anyway. Choose to continue, and after the driver is installed
exit Warp. Before you boot back into Warp replace the Warp BVHSVGA.DLL
with the Headland version, either in DOS or by using the install disks to boot
to an OS/2 prompt. If you do not replace the file before booting into
Warp your system will hang. I do not know if this will work if you
have only 512 KB of video memory as I have 1 Meg installed. If you only
want 256 colors in Win-Os/2 full screen sessions, the Warp User's Guide has
instructions on how to obtain them without changing Warp drivers.
See SVGA Procedures on page 235. This does work with 512 KB of
video memory. I installed another 512 KB in a futile attempt to get
256 colors using the default SVGA driver and when that failed I tried
the HT209 driver and finally succeeded after replacing the BVHSVGA.DLL
file.
My system is a 486 DX2 with 8 Megs of RAM and warp runs well
on it although it takes about four minutes to boot up. I hope the above
helps you.
