  1. Booting from an OS/2 Floppy on ISA and MicroChannel BUS.

  3. 1. Create a selfboot 3.5 diskette (1.44) using the program BOOTOS2.EXE written by Kenneth Kahn (IBM EWS). Use the minimal configuration. If you have installed the Service Pack or have the G.A 2.11 use the new version (v0500).  Ken Kahn CIS 71333,2526. Filename BOOTOS2.ZIP.

  5. 2. Delete the file CHKDSK.COM from the OS2 folder of the newly created diskette (otherwise you may not have enough space). If space is still a problem or if you need to add another driver you can use the 2DISK option and remove FDSIK.COM, CHKDSK.COM and FORMAT.COM which will give some extra space.

  7. 3. Add the following line to the config.sys file of the boot diskette. To be safe as a last line.
  8.               Device=A:\oad\os2.sys  
  9.  
  10. 2. Make an OAD directory on the diskette where the config.sys file is located.

  12. 3. Copy the following files from the OAD subdirectory on the hard disk to the
  13.         OAD subdirectory on the floppy.
  14.                 config.dev
  15.                 iom$err.dat
  16.                 iom$msg.dat
  17.                 os2.sys
  18.                 config.oad
  19.  
  20. 4. Besides copy these additional files according to your configuration:
  21.     If using a MicroChannel PC4 adapter: pc4.adp, pc4.opt
  22.                 If using a PC2X adapter: pc2.adp, pc2.opt
  23.                 If using a PC1600 adpater: pc1600.adp, pc1600.opt
  24.                 If using a Parallel Port adapter: ppa.adp, ppa.opt
  25.                 If using a Bernouille 150: bbii-150.dev, bbii-150.opt
  26.                        or BETA-MD.dev, BETA_MD.opt
  27.                 If using a Bernouille 90: bbii-90.dev, bbii-90.opt
  28.                 If using a Bernouille 44: bbii-44.dev, bbii-44.opt
  29. Be sure you are copying the files with extension .ADP and .OPT. There is another file with extension .DDP. If for example you copy this one instead of the .ADP the program will fail and give you the message that it can not find the config.oad file.

  31. 5. Shutdown the system and reboot from the Selfboot diskette.

  37. Iomega driver OS222.EXE 1-29-94 (265728)
  38. IBM PS/2 Mod 70 (386) with 6 MB
  39. IBM P60/D (Pentium) with 32 MB
  40. OS/2 2.1 G.A. blue + Service Pack

Addenum: A small non-graphic editor can help you if you have to edit some of your files(like config.sys). I use another IBM-EWS the Tiny Editor by Tim Baldwin which you can find in CIS. Because I use the two disk configuration of BOOTOS2 I have the editor in the FIRST disk which has some extra space together with fdisk, format and chkdsk. Of course you can have all these programs in the Bernouille which will be operational.

The Backup prgram I use is BackWiz. It work great with the Bernouille and allows me to restore my boot drive (C:). If you are looking for a backup program be carefull, many cannot be used with the Bernouille drivers. Do not use DOS programs they have problem with EA files and often cannot backup reliable C:>.
  44. Even I use only HPFS in my hard disk I have problems using it with the Bernouille, besides if you want to change "cassettes" is even further complicated. My advice: format the Bernouilles as FAT disks.

I am "playing" with DCF/2 to use as a compression program together with BackupWiz. It seems I will be able to use it to backup D: and E:. However C: (boot disk) I will do it without compression. The reason is if I use DCF/2 the selfboot will become more complicated if I ever I have to restore my boot drive.
