  7.          DESKTOP CANNOT BE LOCATED

  10. Use the following procedure when you see the "Desktop Cannot be
  11. Located" message that is not associated with a trap.
  12.  
  13. If the files are crosslinked, copy the crosslinked files from the
  14. hard disk to diskette.  Delete the files from the hard disk then,
  15. copy the files from the diskette to the hard disk.

  18. RUNNING CHKSDK:
  19.  
  20.  1.  Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in Drive A: and press
  21.      Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  22.  
  23.  2.  When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
  24.      Diskette 1.
  25.  
  26.  3.  Press Enter.
  27.  
  28.  4.  When the Welcome screen appears, press Esc to display the
  29.      command prompt, A:.
  30.  
  31.  5. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2, which contains
  32.     the CHKDSK command.
  33.  
  34.  6. Type the appropriate CHKDSK command followed by the drive on
  35.     which OS/2 resides and press Enter.
  36.  
  37.       For FAT file systems, type:     CHKDSK X:  /F
  38.       For HPFS file systems, type:    CHKDSK X:  /F:2
  39.  
  40.       X is the drive where OS/2 resides
  41.  
  42.       If you installed from CD, the command prompt stops at CD
  43.       drive in DISK_1 subdirectory.  Change to DISK-2 subdir.

  46.   7. Go to the drive that contains OS/2 and change to the OS/2
  47.      subdirectory,
  48.  
  49.   8. Delete OS2.INI and OS2SYS.INI.  If you get "Access Denied"
  50.      type:

  52.                 ATTRIB OS2*.INI -R
  53.  
  54.    Now you can delete the files.
  55.  
  56.   9. Copy OS2.INI and OS2SYS.INI from the OS2\INSTALL
  57.      subdirectory to the OS2 subdirectory.
  58.  
  59.  10. From your OS2 subdirectory, type:
  60.  
  61.                MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC and press Enter.
  62.                MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC and press Enter.
  63.  
  64.  11. Change back to your root directory, and delete entire
  65.      DESKTOP directory structure, including the DESKTOP
  66.      directory. If you have more than one desktop directory, do
  67.      the same for each one.  If you are using OS/2 2.0, the
  68.      DESKTOP directory is named OS!2_2.0_D.
  69.  
  70.      If your system is formatted HPFS, you must include directory
  71.      names with spaces in them in double quotes. You must delete
  72.      all files in a directory before you can remove the
  73.      directory. Also, you cannot be in the directory when you
  74.      remove it.

  76.  12. From the root directory, type:
  77.  
  78.                  ATTRIB WP?ROOT.?SF -H -R -S and press Enter.
  79.                  DEL WP?ROOT.?SF and press Enter.
  80.  
  81.  13. Remove any diskettes from the diskette drive and restart the
  82.      system.
