Windows for Workgroups as a Requester 9/21/94
W4WGREQ Windows for Workgroups as a Requester
NOTE: Windows for Workgroups WILL NOT WORK with DOS LAN Requester,
they will not co-exist on the same machine. Windows for Workgroups
requesters are able to act as requesters for LAN Server 3.0 domains,
but only if the LAN Server is at Service Pak level 7001 or greater.
Be sure you have saved all your files and have a BACKUP and
RECOVERY procedure in place.
Installation of Windows For Workgroups as a Requester
1. Type setup at the A:> prompt.
2. At the Welcome Screen press Enter.
3. Choose Custom Setup.
4. Enter a directory to install to, or press Enter to accept default.
5. Verify the Hardware and Software settings.
6. Program copies files and asks for Diskette #2.
7. Enter Name and Company.
8. Verify Name and Company.
9. DESELECT the option to "Install only Windows Components you select."
10. To install printer or migrate applications - your choice.
11. Copies Files.. asks for Diskettes 3, 4, 5 and 6.
12. At Network Setup, the Screen should read:
Setup will install Windows for support for the following Networks on your
computer:
Microsoft Windows Networks (Version 3.11)
13. Network Drivers: IBM TokenRing (All Types) NDIS2/NDIS3|
14. Choose continue.
15. Next screen is Microsoft Windows Network Names.
16. Username = userid that is defined at the LS 3.0 Domain.
17. Workgroup = Domain name of the LS 3.0 Domain.
18. Computername = machine name (needs to be unique).
19. Copies files... asks for Diskettes 7 and 8.
20. Choose "Make modifications for you".
21. Go to DOS and edit the SYSTEM.INI file.
22. Add LMAnnounce=yes to the networks| section.
23. At the DOMAIN CONTROLLER FOR LS 3.0 do the following steps:
24. Bring up the LAN REQUESTER FSI.
25. At the Main Panel, select Definitions.
26. Then select Machine Parameters.
27. Select New.
28. Select Actions.
29. Select Create.
30. Select Server.
31. Enter the Computername for the Windows for Workgroups machine.
32. Then go to the UPM Accts and verify the userid and password for the
user specified on the Windows For Workgroups.
33. At the Windows for Workgroups machine, reboot.
34. Go into Windows and type the password for the userid.
Make sure the USERID and PASSWORD are the same on both the LS 3.0 Domain
and the Windows for Workgroups machine.
35. Go to MS-DOS Prompt and try to net use to a shared resource.
36. Make sure the resource is shared and that this user has access.
