SETTING UP THE ATI MACH64 CHIPSET TO RUN IN OS/2 2.X and OS/2 WARP
=================================================================

(Available as of 10/25/94)
ATI Graphics Pro Turbo
ATI Graphics Xpression
ATI WinTurbo (VRAM Based Pro Turbo)
ATI WinBoost (DRAM Based Xpression)
SUMMARY:
1. If the Mach64 card was not setup before installing OS/2
Warp, select primary display as VGA when installing
OS/2. When you start the system into VGA, follow the
General Setup procedures.
2. If the Mach64 card replaces a previously installed card on a
system, take the system back to VGA (640x480x16 using the VGA
drivers (not 640x480x256 SVGA driver) before placing the
Mach64 card in the system. Restart the system, and follow
the General Setup procedures
3. If the Mach64 card was setup before installing OS/2 Warp
for the system/monitor, you should not need to setup the
card. If you do have problems, follow the General Setup
procedure.
4. If you are replacing the monitor:
a. Select 640x480x256 resolution from System icon.
b. Shutdown the system.
c. Turn the system off and replace the monitor.
d. Restart the system.
e. Follow the General Setup procedure,
skipping the step to install video drivers. Instead
remake the SVGADATA.PMI file. This is documented on pg.
240 of the Users Guide to OS/2 3.0.
PROCEDURES:
Setup the ATI Mach64 graphics adaptor to run with SVGA Mach64
drivers provide for OS/2 3.0 by:
For more specific information, see the ATI documentation and/or
call ATI.
1. Start a DOS fullscreen session. A DOS bootable diskette
works if there are no memory management programs.
2. Insert the ATI Installation Diskette in drive A:.
3. Type: A:Install and press Enter.
4. Highlight Quick Setup on the main menu and press Enter.
NOTE: READ THE WARNING, and make sure not to set the monitor up
beyond its capability. Check the monitor documentation
for more information.
The ATI manual describes the Custom Setup in the Hardware
Installation / Quick Setup / Custom... section. If you
are not sure of what needs to be done, refer to the
documentation.
Note: All resolutions, except "other...", are supported
with the Mach64 drivers that come with IBM OS/2 Warp.
5. Select the system's monitor or a compatible one. If there is
not a compatible monitor, select CUSTOM.
- 640x480 - (needs to be 60Hz or IBM Default)
- 800x600
- 1024x768
- 1280x1024
6. Select the refresh rate and press Enter. See Monitor
specifications for vertical refresh rates.
7. Press Esc, Select Y
8. Press F10 to save the changes, the monitor flickers while
programming the EPROM.
9. Press Esc until you exit the program.
10. Perform Shutdown and turn system off. Restart the system.
INSTALLING OS/2 2.X, DISPLAY DRIVERS FOR THE ATI MACH64

Setting up OS/2 2.X to run the ATI Mach64 drivers, after OS/2
2.X is installed.
1. Start the system after card has been configured.
2. Press the right mouse button to open up the System Setup
folder.
3. Select System Setup.
4. Select the Selective Install icon.
5. Select Primary Display.
6. Select the VGA option.
7. Select OK
8. Select OK, then select Install.
9. Follow the prompts for installation.
10. When installation is completed, perform shutdown and restart
the system.
INSTALLING OS/2 Warp, DISPLAY DRIVERS FOR THE ATI MACH64

documentation.
Setting up OS/2 Warp to run the ATI Mach64 drivers after OS/2
Warp is installed.
1. Start the system after the card has been configured.
2. Press the right mouse button to open up the System Setup
folder.
3. Select System Setup.
4. Select the Selective Install icon.
5. Select Primary Display.
6. Select the ATI MACH64 option.
7. Select OK
8. Select OK, then select Install.
9. Follow the prompts for installation.
10. When installation is completed, perform shutdown and restart
the system.
When system is restarts:
11. Press the right mouse button on the desktop
12. Press the right mouse button to open up the System Setup
folder.
13. Select System Setup. The first page of information is the
Resolution.
14. Scroll the resolutions until you reach the one you want.
15. Select the correct resolution with the left mouse button.
16. Perform shutdown and restart the system.
NOTE: The ATI drivers are supported on IBM OS/2 Warp or
later. Earlier versions of OS/2 only support the MACH64
chipset in VGA (using the IBM VGA drivers).
