Create Token-Ring RIPL Bootable Diskette 11/17/93
HOW TO CREATE A TOKEN-RING REMOTE-IPL BOOTABLE DISKETTE
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS
Need to know how to create a token-ring remote-IPL bootable
diskette.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION
The following procedure creates a token-ring remote-IPL
bootable diskette for IBM OS/2 LAN Requester or DOS LAN
Requester Version 2.0 (or earlier). This diskette
replaces the token-ring adapter remote-IPL ROM module.
This diskette may also be used in the OS/2 2.0 Token-Ring
Remote Install procedure.
NOTE: For Version 3.0, follow the instructions on page C-21
for the MKRDPM utility in the "IBM OS/2 LAN Server
Network Administrator Reference Volume 3: Network
Administrator Tasks Version 3.0".
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION
1. Use the DOS FORMAT command to create a DOS system
diskette.
FORMAT A: /S
The (/S) parameter creates a DOS bootable system diskette.
2. Use the ATTRIB command to clear the DOS system file
attributes on the DOS system diskette.
ATTRIB -r -s -h A:\IBMBIO.COM
ATTRIB -r -s -h A:\IBMDOS.COM
3. Copy the DOS system files replacement program from the server
to the DOS system diskette.
COPY x:\IBMLAN\NETPROG\RPLDISK.EXE A:\
Where x: = the drive where the IBMLAN tree is installed.
4. Run the DOS system file replacement program to create a
token-ring remote-IPL bootable diskette.
A:\RPLDISK A: -o
The (A:) parameter replaces the files on the A: drive.
The (-o) parameter overlays existing system files.
(Both parameters are required for the DOS system file
replacement program to execute correctly.)
5. Use the ATTRIB command to set the DOS system file attributes
on the DOS system diskette.
ATTRIB +r +s +h A:\IBMBIO.COM
ATTRIB +r +s +h A:\IBMDOS.COM
6. The token ring remote-IPL bootable diskette is ready for use.
7. Place the token-ring remote-IPL bootable diskette in the A:
drive of the target system. Allow the system to boot by
either powering on the system or by pressing the
Ctrl+Alt+Del keys.
