Display Problems with PS/1 Consultants. 6/02/94
File: PS1CON.fax
TITLE: DISPLAY PROBLEMS WITH PS/1 CONSULTANTS.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
After installing the svga drivers for the tseng et4000 chip
set the system will boot to a corrupted desktop, out of
sync. display, or multiple desktops, etc.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
Properly install the svga drivers.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
1. Boot your computer to the desktop and close all active
sessions.
2. Go into a DOS full screen session and change
to the OS2 directory.
3. Grom the prompt type DIR SVGA*.*,
check to see if a file called SVGADATA.PMI exists. If it
does delete it.
4. From the prompt type SVGA ON, the screen should
temporarily darken and return to the prompt.
5. From the prompt type SVGA STATUS, the message that
appears should state that your chipset is a TSENG ET4000.
6. Type exit from the prompt.
7. Open an OS2 full screen session and from the prompt type
DSPINSTL.
8. You will be returned to the desktop and a window named
DISPLAY DRIVER INSTALL will appear. Place a checkmark in
front Primary Monitor and click on OK.
9. The next should have Tseng Laboratories ET4000
highlighted, if so simply click on OK.
10. The next screen should default to install using
defaults for monitor type, again click on OK.
11. The screen should display a message hardware
configuration and go black for a few seconds and
then return to the desktop and ask for the display
resolution you want to load drivers for.
12. High light the resolution you want and click on OK.
13. The next screen to appear will ask for the source
directory. It must be A:\. If anything else appears in
the source directory box click on the change button and set
it to a:\.
14. Place the display drivers diskettes in the
A: driver as you are prompted for them.
15. When the second display drivers diskette has
loaded it diplays a message saying your system
configuration has been updated and you must shut down
to activate the changes that have been made.
16.DO NOT SHUTDOWN AT THIS POINT!!! You must
complete the following steps before the system is shutdown
or the desktop will not display properly.
17. When the above message appears click on OK, you
will be returned to the OS2 full screen prompt. Type
exit and you will be returned to the desktop.
18. Open a DOS full screen session and change to the
OS2 directory. From the prompt type SVGA ON. When
the prompt reappears type EXIT, you will be returned
to the desktop.
19. Do a normal shutdown at this point and reboot
your system. Make notes of any messages or problems
if they occur as the system comes up.
There should be none that occur!
