  6.        TITLE:  DISPLAY PROBLEMS WITH PS/1 CONSULTANTS.
  7.  
  8.        DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
  9.  
  10.        After installing the svga drivers for the tseng et4000 chip
  11.        set the system will boot to a corrupted desktop, out of
  12.        sync.  display, or multiple desktops, etc.
  13.  
  14.        SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
  15.  
  16.        Properly install the svga drivers.
  17.  
  18.        DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  19.  
  20.        1. Boot your computer to the desktop and close all active
  21.        sessions.
  22.        2. Go into a DOS full screen session and change
  23.        to the OS2 directory.
  24.        3. Grom the prompt type DIR SVGA*.*,
  25.        check to see if a file called SVGADATA.PMI exists.  If it
  26.        does delete it.
  27.        4. From the prompt type SVGA ON, the screen should
  28.        temporarily darken and return to the prompt.
  29.        5. From the prompt type SVGA STATUS, the message that
  30.        appears should state that your chipset is a TSENG ET4000.
  31.        6. Type exit from the prompt.
  32.        7. Open an OS2 full screen session and from the prompt type
  33.        DSPINSTL.
  34.        8. You will be returned to the desktop and a window named
  35.        DISPLAY DRIVER INSTALL will appear.  Place a checkmark in
  36.        front Primary Monitor and click on OK.
  37.        9. The next should have Tseng  Laboratories ET4000
  38.        highlighted, if so simply click on OK.
  39.        10.  The next screen should default to install using
  40.        defaults for monitor type, again click on OK.
  41.        11.  The screen should display a message hardware
  42.        configuration and go black for a few seconds and
  43.        then return to the desktop  and ask for the display
  44.        resolution you want to load drivers for.
  45.        12.  High light the resolution you want and click on OK.
  46.        13. The next screen to appear will ask for the source
  47.        directory.  It must be A:\.  If anything else appears in
  48.        the source directory box click on the change button and set
  49.        it to a:\.
  50.        14.  Place the display drivers diskettes in the
  51.        A:  driver as you are prompted for them.
  52.        15.  When the second display drivers diskette has
  53.        loaded it diplays a message saying your system
  54.        configuration has been updated and you must shut down
  55.        to activate the changes that have been made.
  56.        16.DO NOT SHUTDOWN AT THIS POINT!!!  You must
  57.        complete the following steps before the system is shutdown
  58.        or the desktop will not display properly.
  59.        17.  When the above message appears click on OK, you
  60.        will be returned to the OS2 full screen prompt.  Type
  61.        exit and you will be returned to the desktop.
  62.        18. Open a DOS full screen session and change to the
  63.        OS2 directory.  From the prompt type SVGA ON.  When
  64.        the prompt reappears type EXIT, you will be returned
  65.        to the desktop.
  66.        19.  Do a normal shutdown at this point and reboot
  67.        your system.  Make notes of any messages or problems
  68.        if they occur as the system comes up.
