Public Applications with LOTUS 123 R4.0 9/22/94
PAWINLOT -- PUBLIC APPLICATIONS with LOTUS 123 R4.0 for WINDOWS
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
The correct operation of Lotus 123 and the Lotus License Management
Facility are the prime considerations in the development of this
procedure.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:
The following is an example of installing LOTUS 123 Release 4 for
Windows in a Domain for use as a Public Application for use by OS/2
Requester Workstations. Selected items, such as Aliases and drives,
can be customized for specific circumstances.
DETAILS OF RESULUTION:
STEPS AT THE SERVER
LOTUS 123 RELEASE 4 for WINDOWS - NETWORK VERSION was installed
in the PUBLOTUS subdirectory on the D: drive of the Server.
1. OPEN WIN-OS2 SESSION
A. Double click on the OS/2 SYSTEM icon
B. Double click on the COMMAND PROMPTS folder
C. Double click on the WIN-OS2 FULL SCREEN icon
2. INSTALL LOTUS 123 for WINDOWS (Release 4 was used)
A. Click on FILE in the PROGRAM MANAGER
B. Click on Run in the pull-down.
C. Insert Diskette 1 of the Lotus 123 product in Drive A.
D. Type A:INSTALL in the COMMAND LINE box and click on OK.
E. In the 123 DIRECTORY panel, ensure the Drive is D: and
the path is \PUBLOTUS\LOTUS\123R4W.
F. Fill in the appropriate information for SQL SERVER NAME
and PARADOX TABLES.
G. In the LICENSER DIRECTORY panel, ensure the Drive is D:
and the directory is \PUBLOTUS\LICENSER.
H. In the PATH TO LICENSE DIRECTORY, ensure that the Drive
is D: and the directory is \PUBLOTUS\LOTSHARE.
I. In the LOTUS COMMON DIRECTORY panel, ensure the Drive is
D: and the directory is \PUBLOTUS\LOTUSAPP.
J. Follow the instruction to complete the installation.
K. Exit the Installation.
3. SET NUMBER of LICENSES
A. Click once on the LICENSER icon in the Lotus Application
Window.
B. Click on FILE in the Program Manager top menu and
PROPERTIES in the pull down.
C. Ensure the following is the only path in the Working
Directory entry and then click on OK
D:\PUBLOTUS
D. Double click on LICENSER and click on SET COUNT in the
Licenser Window.
E. Set the number of licenses purchased in the Set the
Number of Licenses window and click on OK.
F. Exit the Licenser panels and Exit WIN-OS2.
4. CREATE the .CMD FILE for PUBLIC APPLICATIONS
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session type
EPM D:\PUBLOTUS\LO123RUN.CMD and press ENTER.
B. Type the following in the editor:
START "LOTUS 123 R4" /WIN L:\LOTUS\123R4W\PROGRAMS\123W.EXE
C. Save the file and exit the editor.
5. CREATE the ALIAS
A. In an OS/2 Full Screen session, type NET and depress ENTER.
B. At the MAIN MENU, select Definitions from the top menu and
ALIASES from the pull down and FILES from the pop up.
C. Select NEW on the screen, select ACTIONS from the top menu
and CREATE from the pull down.
D. Fill in the panel:
ALIAS PUBLOTUS
DESCRIPTION Describe the Alias as desired
SERVER NAME Depress F4 and select HERE
SERVER PATH D:\PUBLOTUS
SHARED AT SERVER STARTUP is recommended
but AS REQUIRED BY USER is O.K.
6. CREATE INITIAL ACCESS CONTROL PROFILE
A. From the MANAGE ALIAS FILES menu, select PUBLOTUS.
B. Select ACCESS PROFILE for the top menu, CREATE from the
pull down.
C. Enter XR in the PERMISSIONS for USERS and press ENTER.
D. From the MANAGE ALIAS FILES menu, select PUBLOTUS.
E. Select ACCESS PROFILES for the top menu, APPLY from the
pull down and press ENTER.
F. ESC to the MAIN PANEL.
7. SETTING ACCESS CONTROL for the LICENSE DIRECTORIES
A. From the MAIN PANEL, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and ACCESS CONTROL from the pull down.
B. Select SERVERS from the top panel and DISPLAY PROFILES
by SERVER.
C. Select HERE
D. Locate D:\PUBLOTUS\LICENSER and select.
E. Select ACTIONS from top menu and UPDATE from pull down.
F. Specify XRWCDAP in PERMISSIONS and press ENTER.
G. Locate D:\PUBLOTUS\LOTSHARE and select.
H. Select ACTIONS from top menu and UPDATE from pull down.
I. Specify XRWCDAP in PERMISSIONS and press ENTER.
J. Locate D:\PUBLOTUS\LOTSHARE and select.
K. Select ACTIONS from top menu and APPLY from pull down
and press ENTER.
L. ESC to the MAIN PANEL.
NOTE: Access Control Profiles may need to be created for those
directories that will contain the Data/Spreadsheet files.
8. DEFINING the PUBLIC APPLICATION
A. From the MAIN PANEL panel, select DEFINITIONS from the top
menu and APPLICATIONS from the pull down.
B. Select PUBLIC OS/2 APPLICATIONS.
C. Select NEW, ACTION from the top menu and CREATE from the
pull down.
D. At the CREATE OS/2 APPLICATIONS DETAILS panel, fill in
the panel:
APPLICATION ID LOTUS
DESCRIPTION Describe the application as desired
REMOTE
ALIAS PUBLOTUS
REMAINING PATH \
COMMAND LINE LO123RUN.CMD
PROMPT NO
PROGRAM TYPE VIO
E. Press ENTER
F. From the MANAGE OS/2 APPLICATIONS panel, select LOTUS.
G. Select ACTIONS from the top menu and WORKING DIRECTORY
from the pull down.
H. Fill in the panel:
WORKING DIRECTORY REMOTE
ALIAS PUBLOTUS
REMAINING PATH \
ASSIGNED DRIVE L
L. Press ENTER
9. PLACING APPLICATION in the USER'S PUBLIC APPLICATIONS FOLDER
A. From the MANAGE OS/2 APPLICATIONS panel, select LOTUS.
B. Select STARTER from the top menu and select ADD from the
pull down.
C. Add the application to the users needed and press ENTER.

STEPS AT EACH WORKSTATION
The following must be executed at each workstation to gain access
to Lotus 123 for Windows and the Lotus License Management Facility.
1. LOGON TO THE DOMAIN CONTROLLER
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session type the following
and press ENTER:
LOGON userid /P:password
where userid is the actual userid and password is
the correct password for the userid entered.
2. OBTAIN THE L: DRIVE.
A. In an OS/2 Window or Full Screen session enter the
following and press ENTER:
NET USE L: PUBLOTUS
3. OPEN WIN-OS2 SESSION
A. Double click on the OS/2 SYSTEM icon
B. Double click on the COMMAND PROMPTS folder
C. Double click on the WIN-OS2 FULL SCREEN icon
4. INSTALL LOTUS 123 for WINDOWS on the WORKSTATION
A. Click on FILE in the PROGRAM MANAGER
B. Click on Run in the pull-down.
C. Type L:\LOTUS\123R4W\INSTALL in the COMMAND LINE box and
click on OK.
D. Complete the installation by entering the appropriate
information. NOTE: When the DRIVE OF LOTUS COMMON
DIRECTORY appears, specify L.
E. Exit the WIN-OS2 session.
F: Type LOGOFF in an OS/2 session.
G. LOGON to the Domain as in step 1. When the PUBLIC
APPLICATION icon appears, it can be opened and LOTUS
can be executed by double clicking on it's icon.
LOTUS 123 can now be run from the WIN-OS2 session or
(seamlessly) from the Public Applications icon.
